I first met Sylvia 3 or 4 years ago as a guest of a play she had written and performed, called Obama and Me - more about that in the show.

Of her library, Sylvia says

“Now more than ever, spaces that centre Black narratives are necessary, but we’ll continue to elevate African literature long after the current news cycle moves on.”

I loved talking with Sylvia so much, we covered her move to Ghana from Europe, how she feels about those book lists that have been circulating following the murder of George Floyd and what use, if any are they in affecting actual change. Sylvia tells us why LOATAD is so needed right now and how Akala came for an unexpected visit recently.
