S5 Ep 8 - Truce Through Tough Times

Listen Later

Join Craig Hutchison and Damian Barrett for 'Truce Through Tough Times'.
TIME CODES.
.30 - Our thoughts are with everyone doing it really tough at the moment, heartbreaking to know so many people are really struggling right now.
2.00 – How are our leaders coping as the deal with this emergency?
Scott Morrison’s Press Conferences have become a regular fixture. Is there too much ambiguity in the government message?
11.30 – Working from Home. Hutchy’s is spending his days putting out fires in the business – but managed to literally set his house on fire in the first days of self-isolation.
18.00 – The economic realities of the Coronavirus Crisis. Crocmedia’s problems pale in comparison to what many businesses are facing right now (ie total shut downs). Hutchy explains why Pacific Star Network halted trading on the ASX last week and how tough things are for business right now.
26.30 – Damo commentates Hutchy’s Uber eats McDonalds delivery.
27.00 – Heart breaking to know the extent of the job losses around the country, the lines outside of Centrelink are confronting.
30.30 – The business of AFL has taken a massive hit with huge job losses already.
34.00 – Did the AFL (and many other industries) get ahead of themselves? Was the AFL too big to sustain? Will 18 teams return after the shut down?
37.30 – Why Or Why Not? Hutchy asks “Why does the AFL fixture (when footy returns) need to be fair? Why?”. The AFL has a greater good here to help maximise the good the football can contribute to the community.
43.00 – JB Update – he missed a few details re trade period and wasn't quite up with player movements when he commentated his first couple of game. And BT and his #isobrian videos are keeping us laughing. BT's tour of his shed was interesting - he has a picture of Damo on his dartboard. There is a feeling that some of the animosity that has always existed in the footy media world (and the world at large) is dissipating. . .grudges are petty at a time like this.
48.30 – Question of the Week for Social Status.
Ben Thorn via Facebook asks; "For years, there have been calls for the draft age to be raised to allow kids the chance to develop into adults before being brought into the senior footy environment. With the season being essentially written-off, and fringe players facing the axe with no opportunity to prove themselves, is this a good chance for the AFL to freeze all senior lists for the year, not draft the year-12 crop in 2020, and permanently increase the draft age to 19 in 2021? This would solve the issue of drafting kids with no 2020 scouting on them, plus allow the AFL to maintain the integrity of the draft (how would they determine the draft order without a proper season, anyway?). Could a mini-draft of mature age players top-up the lists for any retirements would be needed, but the integrity could be mostly shielded?"
That's our Question of the Week for Social Status - Australia’s Leading Social Media Advertising Agency. Does your business need professional Social Media Marketing? Check out their website HERE.
50.00 – Hutchy confirms all of Crocmedia’s TV shows will continue in the winter. The AFL Record will continue to publish a digital edition each week.
54.00 – Hutchy’s challenge to the Herald Sun - $250 to charity if they print a great photo of him. They did!
55.00 – What would you like to hear from The Sounding Board in the future?
