The oilfield has a bad habit, when it comes to our own personal safety, of believing that we are all “ten feet tall and bulletproof.” So how do we, as an industry change the mindset or our employees and also our own mindset?
In this episode of The Oil and Gas Health, Safety and Environment Podcast Patrick is joined by one of the Oil and Gas Global Network’s newest podcast host, Collin McLelland. We are also joined by a guest from Safe Start, William “Jack” Jackson who gives some awesome, actionable advice for improving the safety of everything you do if you take just a few seconds to think about what you are about to do.
Safe Start is an advanced safety awareness process that teaches the individual that they need to be aware when they’re in one of the Four States: Rushing, Frustration, Fatigue and Complacency. If you don’t believe that these four states are important, take a quick moment to rate your level of complacency (from 1 to 10) of a task you are about to undertake. I would wager to say that just by thinking about your complacency and where errors might occur, you’re less complacent than you were before the exercise.
So tune and get ready for some great information and be ready to hit that rewind button, because the information Jack is giving is worth taking the time to process.
