  • Safely Navigating the Heat: Strategies for Outdoor Operations in High Temperatures

In this episode, we discuss the impact of heat on workers who don't have the luxury of a climate-controlled environment. We gain a greater understanding of the dew point and how it affects the efficiency of sweating and evaporation. We then delve into signs of heat stress and urge listeners to take preemptive measures, including implementing a policy for excessive heat conditions."

  • Ripple Effect: Consequences to the System

Organizations tend to react really quickly when something goes wrong in their systems. They jump to find a solution without taking the time to fully understand how the system works. This can lead to too many rules and regulations in the work environment, making things overly complicated.

Dr. Jason Starke shares interesting examples of how this kind of knee-jerk reaction caused even more problems in flight operations. It's important to pay attention and learn from these mistakes. By actively listening and thinking about these examples, we can gain valuable insights and avoid making the same errors. This will help create a more sustainable and efficient work environment for everyone involved.

  • FBOs & Interface Management

Interface management is the process of effectively managing and understanding the interactions and connections between different entities or systems to mitigate risks and ensure smooth operations. For flight operations and FBOs (Fixed Base Operators), certain events or circumstances within an FBO can lead to risks or issues that may affect flight operations.

By managing this interface effectively, you aim to minimize the risks associated with FBO operations, ensuring that any potential issues or consequences are addressed before they impact flight operations. This podcast emphasizes the importance of communication, coordination, and risk assessment between your organization and the FBO to maintain safety and mitigate any negative impacts on flight operations.

  • Perception vs. Reality: Examining the Link

Is Perception equal to Reality? A concise answer won't suffice when grappling with the complex question of whether perception truly mirrors reality. Jason Starke, Ph.D, was confronted with this dilemma during a live training event. Join him as he explores aviation scenarios, where leadership had the chance to recognize human factors that were compromising the safety culture within their organization. Additionally, Jason  delves into the importance of timely safety culture surveys in shaping and implementing an efficient health and safety program. Gain insights and broaden your understanding of the intriguing relationship between perception and reality.

  • Normalization of Deviance

This week we discuss how little events lead up to big events. Specifically, as we go through the work day, we may minimally adjust and alter what we're doing. Each little change is a step down the path of deviance. The further we go, the more an action is normalized. As we continue on this course and away from procedures and policies, we are normalizing our deviant behavior. Check out how this is related to the NPRM.
