The summer after his graduation, Mr. Ali made his professional debut performing for a season with the California Shakespeare Festival in Orinda, California, where he also served as an apprentice. Soon after, he was accepted into graduate school at New York University, where he received a Master’s degree in acting. While at NYU, he appeared in productions of Blues for an Alabama Sky, The School for Scandal, A Lie of the Mind, A Doll’s House, Monkey in the Middle, The Merchant of Venice, The New Place, and Secret Injury, Secret Revenge. In Washington, D.C. he starred at the Arena Stage in the lead role of The Great White Hope; and in Minneapolis, he starred at the Guthrie Theater and in A Long Walk and Jack and Jill.

Mr. Ali made his television debut with a recurring role as Dr. Trey Sanders on the drama series Crossing Jordan. He subsequently landed a starring role as Richard Tyler, a Korean War pilot, on the sci-fi drama The 4400, which ran for four seasons.

He starred in the title role, opposite Julia Ormond, in The Wronged Man, earning an NAACP Image Award nomination. Following recurring roles on Treme and Alphas he continued to impress audiences on House of Cards.

His many film credits include The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Predators, Crossing Over, Supremacy,  Go for Sisters, The Hunger Games, Free State of Jones and Kicks.

He is currently nominated for a SAG Award for his role in Moonlight and can also be seen in Hidden Figures.

Career Q&A with Louis Gossett, Jr. on June 15, 2015.  Moderated by Scott Mantz, Access Hollywood.

Award winning actor, Louis Gossett Jr. is recognized as one of the most respected and beloved actors on stage, screen and television. Off screen, he has spent his life as a social activist, educator, film producer and author trying to educate and enrich the lives of those around him.

Among Gossett’s many accolades are an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor for a Single Appearance in a Drama or Comedy Series for his portrayal of Fiddler in the historically groundbreaking ABC series “Roots” and a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV for “The Josephine Baker Story.”

In 1983, Gossett was the first African–American male to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his unforgettable performance as drill Sergeant Emil Foley in “An Officer and a Gentleman.”

Gossett’s recent work includes “Book of Negroes," BET's six-part miniseries that follows a West African woman's long search for freedom after she is sold into slavery around the time of the American Revolution. The historical drama was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Limited Series.

Gossett is currently guest starring as Halle Berry’s father on the hit CBS television series “Extant,” which returns for a second season Summer 2015.

Gossett is recognized as much for his humanitarian efforts as he is for his accomplishments as an actor. In 2006, Gossett founded The Eracism Foundation which is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit dedicated to abolishing racism, violence, and ignorance. The foundation will eventually be organized around "Shamba Centers" in the heart of inner cities, places where children of all races can go after school to play sports, hang out, and learn about one another’s history and culture. The vision is to eradicate the systematic impacts of all forms of racism.

Career Q&A with Kate Beckinsale from September 22, 2016.  Moderated by Dave Karger.

Kate Beckinsale early established herself playing in classic and literary adaptations, some with an Austen pedigree. While still a student at Oxford she played opposite Robert Sean Leonard as “Hero” in Kenneth Branagh’s version of Much Ado About Nothing. She also won the title role in the widely admired British mini-series adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma and particular notice for her performance in John Schlesinger’s version of the Emma update, Cold Comfort Farm.

“It was from Cold Comfort Farm that I thought Kate would be perfect for the Charlotte character in The Last Days of Disco,” Stillman says, “and her role in the Schlesinger film was essentially Austen-derived. It was the first time I wrote a part with a particular actor in mind.

The Last Days of Disco would be Kate’s first American role, winning her the London Film Critics’ “Best Supporting Actress” award, and leading to stardom in America in a series of notable films including Michael Bay’s epic Pearl Harbor, the hit romantic comedy Serendipity opposite John Cusack, and the ensemble drama, Laurel Canyon, with Christian Bale and Frances McDormand.

Then began her remarkable run as the iconic action hero ‘Selene’ in the Underworld series for which she has recently completed the shoot for a fifth installment, focusing its story on the next generation of Vampires and Lycans and the war that continues to wage between the two species.

Jake Gyllenhaal, an Academy Award nominee, has established himself as one of the finest actors of his generation. With his new production company Nine Stories, he is also on his way to becoming a filmmaker of note – sourcing material, developing it from the ground up, collaborating with bold storytellers, and shepherding the projects through release.

In 2014, he starred in Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler, which he also produced. For his performance as Louis Bloom, Mr. Gyllenhaal received BAFTA, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, Critics’ Choice, and Spirit Award nominations, as well as Best Actor citations from numerous critics’ groups.

Through Nine Stories, he has produced Stronger, inspired by a true story and based on The New York Times bestseller of the same name. The movie, directed by David Gordon Green and to be released in 2017, is the deeply personal account of the heroic journey of Boston Marathon survivor Jeff Bauman (whom Mr. Gyllenhaal portrays).

He currently stars in Focus Feature’s Nocturnal Animals.

A Career Retrospective Conversation with Amy Ryan, currently starring in Lost Girls, on March 5, 2020. Moderated by Mara Webster.

Amy Ryan is an Academy Award nominated actress, well-known for her work on the big and small screen, as well as her Tony-nominated work on stage.

Ryan will next be seen in the Netflix Independent film, LOST GIRLS, which premiered at Sundance in January 2020 to critical acclaim. The Liz Garbus-directed film recounts a true story of the “Craigslist Killer,” who used the waterfront roadside on Long Island's South Shore as the dumping ground for his victims. Amy Ryan stars as ‘Mari Gilbert’ who tries to uncover what happened to her daughter following her sudden disappearance. LOST GIRLS will officially premiere on March 13, 2020.

Amy Ryan also starred in a second film premiere at Sundance this year; WORTH, starring opposite Michael Keaton and Stanley Tucci. Keaton and Ryan play famed attorneys Ken Feinberg and Camille Biros who oversaw the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund.

Anne Archer was nominated for an Academy Award®, a Golden Globe and the British (BAFTA) Academy Award for her role as Michael Douglas' sympathetic, tortured wife, Beth Gallagher, in Adrian Lyne's 1987 thriller, "Fatal Attraction."  Archer is also well-known for her poignant Golden Globe-winning performance in the ensemble cast of Robert Altman's "Short Cuts" and for playing CIA agent Jack Ryan's beleaguered wife, Cathy, in "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger."

 Throughout her motion picture career, she has starred opposite some of Hollywood's most dynamic and respected leading men, not only Michael Douglas and Harrison Ford, but also Gene Hackman in "Narrow Margin," Donald Sutherland in "Eminent Domain" and Sylvester Stallone in "Paradise Alley”, Tommy Lee Jones in “Man of the House”. In 2012 she co-starred in “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” with Mathew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner. That same year she starred along with an ensemble cast in the feature film “Lullaby” with Garrett Hedland, Richard Jenkins, Amy Adams, Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard.

 On London’s West End, in 2001 Archer played the role of Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate . 

In 2014 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Archer played the role of Jane Fonda in The Trial of Jane Fonda (written by her husband, Terry Jastrow).

In 2016 she received rave reviews for her performance in the London theatrical production at the Park Theatre, which received an Offie Nomination for “Best New Play”. The theatrical presentation deals with a little-known event in 1988, in which Fonda confronted a room full of hostile war vets. 

In the spring of 2020 Miss Archer will develop and star in the debut of a one woman play “A Ticket to the Circus” about Norris Church Mailer, the wife of Norman Mailer adapted into a play from her book of the same name and performed at The Edgemar Theatre in Santa Monica California.

Born into a show business family, she followed in the footsteps of her parents, actress Marjorie Lord (TV’s “Make Room for Daddy”) and actor John Archer (“White Heat”).  Archer studied theatre arts at Claremont College before debuting on the motion picture screen opposite Jon Voight in “The All-American Boy.”  She won critical acclaim for her leading role in “Lifeguard” as Sam Elliott¹s old flame. 

Planned Parenthood Federation of America appointed her as their first National Public Advocacy Chairman; and she served in this role for seven years. In recognition of this commitment, Ms. Magazine honored her as one of their six “Women of the Year” (1988).

In 2006 she founded Artists for Human Rights (AFHR) with the purpose of bringing artists together with the common cause of promoting human rights and activism by raising awareness of those rights as laid out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. AFHR works inclusively with allied organizations to bring artistic expression to bear in the human rights arena through a multitude of artistic campaigns and international partnerships thus increasing responsibility, peace and tolerance around the world.
