ஆஸ்திரேலியா ஒரு தீவு, ஒரு நாடு, ஒரு கண்டம் என்பதை நீங்கள் அறிவீர்கள்.  ஆஸ்திரேலிய பூர்வீக மக்கள் வாழ்ந்த நாடுகளைக் கணக்கில் எடுக்காமல், இந்தக் கண்டத்தில் எத்தனை நாடுகள் இருக்கின்றன என்று கேட்டால், “அது தானே நீங்களே சொல்லிவிட்டிர்களே, ஆஸ்திரேலியா தான் இந்தக் கண்டத்திலுள்ள நாடு,” என்று கேட்பீர்கள் இல்லையா…     .

பல, micronation என்று சொல்லப்படும் மிகச்சிறிய நாடுகள் உலகில் இருக்கின்றன.  அதில் பாதிக்கு மேல், சுமார் இருபத்தி மூன்று மிகச்சிறிய நாடுகள் ஆஸ்திரேலியாவிலுள்ளன.  அவற்றில் பழமையான நாடான Principality of Hutt River குறித்த ஒரு கதையை அதன் இளவரசர் Graeme அவர்களுடன் எடுத்து வருகிறார், குலசேகரம் சஞ்சயன்.

In this episode of Kalaththulli, Kulasegaram Sanchayan focuses on Daisy Bates who was appointed a Travelling Protector with a special commission to conduct inquiries into native conditions and problems, such as employment on stations, guardianship and the morality of native and half-caste women in towns and mining camps. She became a true friend and protector of the Aborigines, using her own money to buy them rations, sacrificing her own lifestyle to improve theirs, whilst preserving their culture and traditions.

It’s been dubbed the “diesel dupe”. The German car giant, Volkswagen, has admitted cheating emissions tests in the US. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), some cars being sold in America had devices in diesel engines that could detect when they were being tested, changing the performance accordingly to improve results.This devious action was first discovered by Dr Arvind Thiruvengadam who is an Assistant Research Professor at West Virginia University.
