Last August, Dr Pachaivathy launched a new program titled, “Annai mozhi anbu vazhi” (mother language taught in a loving way). The program encourages youngsters who do not study at structured Tamil language schools to learn Tamil in a fun and creative way. Dr Pachaivathy talks to Kulasegaram Sanchayan on the success of the program and the challenges she faces.

Even without knowing the Clean-Up Australia campaign by Ian Kiernan, a resident of a Sydney suburb Homebush, Karthigesu Sivapiragasam started to keep the street he lives on clean.  Mr Sivapiragasam talks to Kulasegaram Sanchayan how he got started with his pet project, and how his actios120received by his neighbours.

Sathyaseelan has created a successful program in Canada, that focuses on work life skills.  The program integrates the “soft-skills” side of business in a structured and fun atmosphere where members learn-by-doing and learn from one another.  The learning process is a spiral, constantly building on previous knowledge.  On his recent visit to Australia, Seelan talked to Kulasegaram Sanchayan on how he has created this distinctive continual learning environment, known for its encouraging, positive, and inspiring approach.

As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations, the Indian Arts Academy has invited Singabahu Sivakumar, a traditional Tamil martial arts teacher and performer has come to Melbourne to perform and to teach his skills to some Australian students. Kulasegaram Sanchayan talks to him about the plight of this traditional art from that has a very long history.

A Boston-based software engineer, Muthiah Annamalai, who hails from Chennai, has developed a Tamil-based interpreted procedural programming language – Ezhil, to facilitate coding in Tamil. In this interview with Kulasegaram Sanchayan, Muthu Annamalai explains how Ezhil will not just replace the English keywords with Tamil ones, but also with a grammar, and logical sequence similar to the spoken Tamil language.

Jimmy Tambo is finally laid to rest, 110 years after he died, on February 23, 1994.

George L. Hart is a professor of Tamil language at the University of California, Berkeley.  Prof Hart received his Ph.D. in Sanskrit from Harvard University and taught Sanskrit at the University of Wisconsin–Madison before joining the faculty at Berkeley.  Professor Hart was responsible for inaugurating the Tamil department at Berkeley.  He has studied Latin and Greek as well as several modern European and Indian languages.  In 2015 he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for his contributions to the study and translation of Indian literature, particularly the Sangam literature of ancient Tamil.

Kulasegaram Sanchayan talks to Professor Hart about classifying Tamil as a classical language, translating Tamil epics into other languages, his current work – translation of Ahananuru, book of Tamil anthologies, and shares his wisdom on bringing up the next generation in a non-Tamil environment.  Professor Hart also renders a poem in Tamil and his translation of that in English.
