STARTTS எனும் அமைப்பு தனது செயற்பாடுகளை விரிவாக்கும் நோக்குடன் சிட்னி வாழ் தமிழ் சமூகத்துடன் ஒரு கலந்துரையாடலையும் கருத்துப் பகிர்வையும் எதிர்வரும் ஞாயிற்றுக் கிழமை நிகழ்த்த இருக்கிறது.  இது குறித்து அதன் ஒருங்கணைப்பாளர்களில் ஒருவரான நீரஜா ஷண்முகநாதன், எமது நிகழ்ச்சித் தயாரிப்பாளர் குலசேகரம் சஞ்சயனுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொண்ட கருத்துகள்.

STARTTS is organising a community meeting to solicit feedback and advice on community needs, so that it can strategise it’s future direction and action. One of the organisers of that event, Neeraja Sanmuhanathan, talks to our presenter Kulasegaram Sanchayan about STARTTS and the event.

நிதி நிலையை சமாளிக்க, அடுத்த ஆண்டின் நடுப்பகுதியுடன், ஆறு தடுப்பு முகாம்களை மூடிவிடப் போவதாக அரசு அறிவித்துள்ளது. இதன் மூலம் 280 மில்லியன் டொலர்களை சேமிக்கப் போவதாகவும் அரசு சொல்கிறது.

ஆனால் தற்போது தடுப்பு முகாமிலிருக்கும் புகலிடக் கோரிக்கையாளருக்கு என்ன கதி என்று அரசு இது வரை எதுவும் சொல்லவில்லை.

The federal government has announced the closure of six onshore asylum seeker detention centres, as part of its budget cost-saving measures. The shutdowns are set to save Commonwealth coffers 280-million dollars. But as our presenter Kulasegaram Sanchayan reports in Tamil, there’s no indication of where asylum seekers currently being held in the detention centres will go. In the first of the two-part interview, realistic artist S Elayaraja talks to our presenter Kulasegaram Sanchayan on his background and childhood, the school teacher who encouraged him to become an artist, his artistic mentor at fine arts college, his college life, how his outlook expanded, how he found his own style, about the series on paintings on Dravidian women, Director Bharathiraja’s opinion about his paintings, and his relationship with Isaignani Ilayaraja.

In the second and concluding part of the interview, realistic artist S Elayaraja talks to our presenter Kulasegaram Sanchayan on various aspects of painting including, why he chooses water-based, oil-based or acrylic paint, his favorite painting , the painting that he most struggled with, how he drew them, comments from the beneficiaries of his paintings, whether technology would kill this art-form, about his students, gives advice to anyone who wants to take up paining as an art form, how the print media is using his paintings, and about the support he receives from his life-partner.

An 18-year old Tamil girl from Montreal, Canada has discovered three new oil-eating bacteria. These bacteria have been named after the discoverer, Nivatha Balendra. The Australian who is presenting two papers at the Tamil Diaspora Conference

Our presenter, Kulasegaram Sanchayan, talks to Chennai-based S. Swaminathan, a retired professor of Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi, who has been working on raising awareness as well as preserving the monument in Sittanavasal, an important Jain cave complex.
