  • Who are true Brahmins? உண்மையான ‘பிராமணர்’ யார்? - 7th Velvi (1997)

The noble thought waves that arise from the universe possess immense power and speed. Each one of you stands as a living radar, attuned to these subtle thought waves. When you receive them and transmit them from within, their influence spreads according to the purity and speed of your thought, flowing outward to your family, your street, your village, your district, and your nation, ever expanding without limit.

Thus, the sacred month of Margazhi is a season of spiritual awakening for humanity. Whether others make use of it or not, you must surely do so. For the protection of Dharma is your sacred responsibility. Regardless of whether others uphold righteousness, you are born for Dharma alone. If this duty is neglected, it will remain unfulfilled, and the consequences will inevitably follow.

When a teacher fails in duty, the learning of the students declines, and with it the wisdom of the nation. Even a single lapse in responsibility brings disorder. Though negligence may appear comfortable in the moment, its effects are destructive in time. Therefore, when faced with a choice between comfort and righteousness, abandon comfort and adhere to what is right.

In the same way, who are you all? You are the wisdom teachers of the future! What does a wisdom teacher mean? One who imparts wisdom (Kundalini Initiation) to others and guides them through instruction, through discourse, and also through spoken words that convey many noble thoughts.

In the future, all of you are going to become wisdom teachers who impart knowledge. So what is your duty? What should you do every day? You must practice disciplined spiritual austerity yourselves and also inspire others to practice it.

What is the duty of a true Brahmin?
    To study and to teach.
To recite the Vedas and to teach the Vedas.
To protect righteousness and to teach righteousness.
To practice virtue and to instruct virtue.

That is why, in truth, all of you here today are those Āntanars. An Āntanar is not determined by birth. One who wears the sacred thread is not necessarily an Andanar. One who keeps a tuft of hair is not an Andanar. One who is given the name is not an Andanar.

Whoever realizes the Self (Atma), he alone is an Andanar. Whoever realizes Brahman, he is a Brahmin. Therefore, you who have realized the Self, you who have realized Brahman, you who have attained the experience and realization of the Vedic truth “That is You (Tat Tvam Asi)” and “Yes, that is indeed I”, who are you? You are Brahmins.
Thus, Brahmins are those who have realized Brahman and those who make others realize Brahman.

Therefore, every day, remaining as true realized beings and following this Kundalini meditation, you must practice—both in the morning and in the evening. Whether you do it for yourselves or not, for the sake of this change of the age (Yuga transformation), you must do it without fail. Isn’t it so?

So what should be done? One does not study only for oneself, but for one’s lineage and society. Even if one studies, the benefit becomes a true honor only when it serves a higher purpose.

  • Will the world attain peace if penance is performed at Thirumurthi Hills, where once great Siddhars practiced penance?|சித்த புருஷர்களும், தவ சிரேஷ்டர்களும் வாழ்ந்த திருமூர்த்திமலையில் ஒரு குடிலில் அமர்ந்துகொண்டு வேள்வி செய்தால் உலகம் சமாதானம் அடையுமா?

This is Gurumahan's discourse during the 21 days,  7th year holy penance for Universal Wellbeing from Dec 1997 - January 1998!

In India, southern part of the country, in some remote corner,  at Thirumoorthi Hills—known as Thenkailayam, where ascetics and sages once lived and performed penance, if one were to sit in a  pyramid and perform holy penance, can the world attain peace? Yes, It is definitely possible when we all unite together!

When viewed scientifically, through a telephone communication from one place to another is easily possible. In the same way, when we sit in meditation, it is as though we are establishing a power station. From one location—whether in Chennai or elsewhere—signals are transmitted.Programs broadcast from different places reach people across the world through television.

Likewise, the positive thought-waves generated when we sit in one place travel through satellites into the universe, touch the ozone layer, and return to Earth as subtle life energy.

Those who rise early in the morning and worship with devotion, when they inhale while uttering “Muruga,” that breath enters deeply within them. When they say “Allahu,” the energy spreads through their nostrils. When they say “Kartha (Jesus),” those waves spread through the nostrils and through the space between the eyebrows (Third Eye).

Thus, to remove the disturbances of the world and to alleviate the sufferings and hardships of individuals, all who pray to God receive these positive thought waves. They reach the brain, calm the mind, and bring inner peace.

At the same time, however we may have lived until now, we must ask: how should we live henceforth? We must live as good people. Yet how should the thinking of good people evolve? From now on, it is not enough merely to be good; we must also be strong. For in today’s world, almost everyone wishes for goodness. Everyone desires a better world. But the world does not become better simply through good intentions, we need to be powerful as well; This is possible  only when people unite and act together.

When good people hesitate and stand aside, situations are worsened by the powerful. Therefore, this is a yajna, a sacred transformation, in which good people must become strong.

  • 7thVelvi(1997) - The Purpose of 7th Holy Penance for Universal well-being! 7ஆவது பிரபஞ்ச நல மகாதவ வேள்வியின் நோக்கம்!

Even if a person is guilty in their own eyes or in the eyes of others, no one can ever be guilty before a Guru. A Guru never sees faults; his only duty is to remove the suffering of those who seek him. A disciple approaches a Guru to acquire faultless qualities.
A mirror helps us correct our outward appearance, but who reveals our inner flaws? That is the role of a Guru. At times, the Guru may appear strict and point out faults directly; at other times, he removes them without the disciple’s awareness. Such is a true Guru. Verbal correction is often unnecessary, for the Guru already knows each person’s condition and circumstances.
Thus, the true duty of a Guru is to remove the faults of sincere disciples silently. What is required of disciples is worthiness. They must cultivate the right qualifications, for “humility bestows wisdom.” One cannot casually ask a Guru for Diksha or Kundalini awakening. Even to borrow a small amount of money, one must ask with humility—how much more humility is required to receive supreme knowledge?
This supreme knowledge is called Brahma Vidya. It is not ordinary knowledge. Hence, learning is classified into Para Vidya (higher knowledge) and Apara Vidya (lower knowledge), leading to Para Jnana and Apara Jnana. To attain Brahma Vidya, one must be ready to renounce everything—even life itself. True wisdom must be sought at any cost.
The proverb “Run across the roaring seas to seek wealth” does not refer to material riches, but to the true wealth—Mei Porul (the ultimate essence). When this essence is realized, all powers become accessible. There is no age limit, for everything already lies hidden within us.
That supreme power is embedded in the inner self. Through tapas and disciplined practice, it is brought forth. Education itself means “that which causes inner awakening.” Divine energies and countless powers reside within us, but to manifest them, we need a tool—and that tool is meditation.
The time is approaching when humanity will express the divinity within. In earlier ages, humans were dominated by animal instincts. In 20th century, human qualities of compassion emerged. In the 21st century, divinity is awakening within humanity. Though many have not fully evolved yet, the next stage beyond humanity is divine grace.
For my beloved truth-seekers who live with compassion, the next phase of life is the divine life. The purpose of this Seventh Holy Penance for Satya Yuga is to awaken that divinity. Though we undertake this penance every year, its ultimate aim is physical well-being and world peace.

  • 7thVelvi(1997) - How does the shift from material obsession to the search for true meaning (MeiPorul) indicate the beginning of a Satya yuga? |புறப் பொருளைத் தேடிக் கொண்டிருந்த மனம், மெய்ப்பொருளை அடைய விரும்பும் இந்த மாற்றமே சத்திய யுகத்தின் ஆரம்பம்!

If the 21st century is to transform as Sathya Yuga, a single word is enough.
When Kannagi, the chaste woman, spoke one word, Madurai was consumed by fire. Likewise, if mahan, saints and sages were to utter a powerful call, the world itself could be destroyed and rebuilt.

But they do not wish for destroy and rebuild. Their role is to initiate inner awakening. Yet when people refuse to awaken, they live in sorrow, and time itself begins to dismantle humanity through the forces of nature.

This is why, in our era, great changes are unfolding through the five elements (Pancha Bhootas). These shifts should have begun 5 years earlier; if we wait another five years, the situation will worsen. Humanity often asks “What next?” only after destruction. Only then does it turn toward righteousness.

At the end of the 20th century, the human mind began to correct its own errors. Once obsessed with wealth, it now searches for life’s true meaning (MeiPorul). After endless toil for family and security, people ask: “What use is this wealth if peace is lost and children live without harmony?” The mind finally says: “Enough of possessions.”

Meanwhile, the new generation declares: “Do not seek wealth for us. Give us education, and we will live by our own effort.” Such self-reliant, self confident children are the sign of this age.

Thus, economic instability will start slowly from end of 1996 and within 3 years by 1999, the value of money will fall while the value of humanity will rise. Those without good quality, compassion, lineage awareness, or human values will struggle to survive, while the Guru’s people will rise higher.

The responsibility for establishing Satya Yuga (Age of Truth) lies with us. First comes thought, then word, then action—like a village deciding to move a chariot that once stood still with help of all the villagers. Likewise a strong thought arose and expanded! : "In 21 st century the Sathya yuga will be established!". But why in 21 century, with conviction, we believed let Sathya Yuga arrive before the 21 century and before the year 2000.

With the thought that Sathya Yuga is already established, earlier this year we journeyed towards  northern part of India, to the sacred Ganga. Many thought it was only a tour, yet the environment itself transformed us.

The Ganga purifies without discrimination—rich or poor, sinner or saint. Likewise, the Guru removes faults of every soul without judgment. So it is said Guru is like the river Ganga. That journey brought wonderful transformation and further this journey created a deep bond between us and the Ganga!

  • 7thVelvi(1997) - This Sathya Yuga will arise through you! Hence you must lead a healthy, wealthy, happy and fulfilled life! உங்களின் மூலமாகத்தான் இந்த சத்திய யுகம் அமையவிருக்கிறது! எனவே நீங்கள் நலமும், வளமும், மகிழ்வும், நிறைவும் பெற வேண்டும்!

If I say, “From within the ocean I look at the ocean,” how would that be? Being God, yet searching for God. Who are you? You are indeed God. But we have forgotten those qualities.

Then, if we are God, what should we do? Should we ask for boons? Those who realize the Divine within—how can they be? They can simply be That Divine. When we think of God, what do we imagine? Performing miracles. If miracles are to be performed, why then does God have weapons? He has four hands, another has twelve hands. So what is all this for? All these forms show the powers of God. God’s powers. In the same way, how is that power? It is all kept within you.

That is why first we seek and realize the divine state outwardly, in devotion. Next is the state of seeing the divine within oneself. That state of seeing within is the highest state of man.

Therefore man must change from animal nature to human nature, and from human nature to divine nature. Ordinary education can raise man from animal nature to human culture, revealing human compassion. Spiritual education is what makes man realize divine qualities from human qualities. Therefore this Holy penance is the penance prepared for you.

In this Penance, considering your welfare,
to establish in the 21st century a righteous and just governance, to establish a world governance of dharma—who is needed first? You are needed.
Through you, the Satya Yuga will be established.

Therefore you must gain health. You must gain strength. You must gain joy. You must gain fulfillment. If you gain fulfillment, if you live prosperously in this world, then those who follow you will also live in the same way.

That is why you are the pioneers of the future society, the ones who will create the Satya Yuga.
Who are you? You are seekers of truth, children of truth. You must live with truth. You must live as truth.

What is truth? God alone is truth. Everything else is untruth. All that we speak of now—what will it be? It will vanish. That which does not vanish, that which does not perish, that which is eternal and everlasting—that alone we call truth.

How is that truth? Truth is one, and that one is everything. That is Brahman. What is truth? That is Brahman. Therefore the philosophy of Bharata is: Truth alone.

They called it vaaymai (truth of speech). If there is vaaymai, then there is also falsehood.
    Here, divinity alone will prevail.

Therefore the future world will accept a new dharma from Bharata. That new dharma will take humanity beyond divisions of caste and religion.
Will caste not exist? Caste will exist.
But conflicts between castes will not exist.
Will religion not exist? Religion will exist.
But quarrels between religions will not exist.

Thus caste will exist, race will exist, religion will exist, but there will be no hatred in them.
Each will perform its duties in its own sphere,
and also live for the sake of the world.

Until now, people have lived for family, for race, for society, for nation. But all these will change,
and a new society will arise where all live for all.

Therefore let us create a new world.
    Come, come forward!!

  • 5thVelvi(1995) - How does Kundalini energy empower our thoughts and bring them into fulfillment? | குண்டலினி சக்தி எவ்வாறு நம் எண்ணங்களுக்கு வலிமை அளித்து அவற்றை நிறைவேற்றுகிறது?

The primordial divine power we seek already exists within us. When this inner energy—the all-powerful Supreme Light—is consciously awakened and worshipped daily at the eyebrow center, our sincere intentions begin to manifest naturally and within a short time.

At the space between the eyebrows, every question finds its answer, because the Divine itself is both the question and the response. To truly understand this, one must experience the presence of the Divine with awareness at the Ajna Chakra.

Consider a simple example. A microphone, without electricity, cannot transmit sound. In the same way, mere mental intention is not enough. What is essential is power—the Kundalini energy, the primordial force within us. When this energy is awakened and directed to the Third Eye, our thoughts gain the power to become reality. When it is further elevated to the crown center, even the greatest personal or worldly problems can be resolved.

This understanding has inspired the vision of making the 21st century a remarkable era by uniting spiritual leaders, just as world leaders gather at the United Nations. The idea is to create such a spiritual assembly beginning in Chennai. Research by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has shown that even a small percentage of people collectively generating positive intentions can influence society at large. When thousands gather with a unified noble purpose, positive thought waves inevitably spread throughout humanity.

These thought waves already exist, just like radio waves. A radio may be present, but without switching it on and supplying battery power, no music is heard. This power is  Kundalini energy  that activates our capacity to receive and transmit higher awareness. Firstly median wave enabled to listen nearby frequencies, then short waves enables us to recieves all that happens around the world.

As this inner sensitivity grows, one may begin to perceive events beyond personal boundaries. Meditation inside Pranavalayam (Pyramid in Thirumoorththi Hills) helps in focusing on one’s own life—health, livelihood, family, and stability—before attempting to shoulder the burdens of the world. True strength begins with self-preservation and balance.

Peace in the world can arise only from peace within the individual. Happiness and sorrow, friend and enemy, are not external realities but creations of the mind. Therefore, simple practices for mental purification are essential, and through them, people can live free from suffering and filled with joy.

Through this spiritual discipline, inner awareness awakens and becomes a protective force. Holding firmly to this awareness, Kundalini energy has the capacity to heal the body and remove illness. In the future, these energies can be systematically applied through research for healing various diseases.

May the grace of the Guru guide everyone toward goodness.
May peace, bliss, and happiness prevail throughout the world.
May only good come to pass.
    Live with prosperity and fulfillment.

  • 5thVelvi(1995)-What is the ‘blank cheque’ the Guru gives, and how do we use it? குரு வழங்கும் "Blank Cheque"என்பது என்ன? அதை நாம் எவ்வாறு பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும்?

We are born not to receive, but to give.
Already, all has been given. We have asked, and it has been granted. What more remains to ask?
Disciples approach the Guru: “Who am I? What wealth do I possess? Give me my share.”
But what wealth is there to divide? The Guru has already revealed the treasure at the root.

It is like a cheque—a blank cheque. What will you do with it? Doubt arises: “Is this real? Is there an account behind it?” The Guru Himself is zero; He will not go to the bank. Even with the cheque in hand, it is useless unless you trust.

Some place a little faith, like depositing a hundred rupees. If they return empty-handed, they complain nothing has happened. Yet even a small measure of trust yields fruit. One asks for ten thousand, another for a lakh, another for a crore. Is it not possible? Whatever is truly asked, that boon is granted.

This cheque is Ajna Chakra, the space between the eyes. Whatever is asked there, is received.

A disciple once prayed: “Let me study well.” And it was granted. Later he wondered: “If I had asked not merely to pass, but to be first in the state, would that too have been given?” Yes, it would have been. Another prayed: “I am burdened with debts. Grant me livelihood to clear them.” And income came, enough to pay the debts—but no more. Why? Because he asked only for relief, not abundance. He received exactly what he sought.

Thus, asking is one stage. But there is another way—like asking a mother. A child says: “Mother, I am hungry.” The mother already knows when hunger will come. She prepares food at the right time, not at midnight. Her heart pours forth milk, the natural gift of love. Yet today, many pour forth only alcohol.

See the earth itself—she is the greatest example of love. Yet even Her love has diminished. Why do you seek Gurus everywhere? For peace, for love. But is this not meant to be found at home? Scripture declares: “Domestic life is an illusion”.

Look at the sages. Were they without family? Christ did not marry, yet he preached for householders. Adi Shankara struggled for householders. Buddha renounced his home, yet his teachings were for the people. Renunciation is not escape. It is hardship undertaken to wipe away the sorrows of others. Its purpose is compassion.

Therefore, we need not abandon everything. What is required is discernment, clarity, wise choice. All of this is already within us. Yet we leave it unused—like a blank cheque. The brain itself is that cheque. Do we ever draw upon it fully? Rarely. Only after scratching, scraping, knocking, does something pour forth. Like in an exam hall—after handing in the paper, suddenly the answers come. Too late. So it is with us all.

In penance, seekers write daily of their wondrous experiences. Even householders share their revelations. How did these come? Was food promised? Was mantra alone enough? No. It came because many joined together, teachers explained, guides showed the way. Through collective effort, the fruit was received.

  • 5thVelvi(1995) - Why is Self-realization considered essential for liberation and upliftment in human life?| தன்னிலையை அடைதல் ஏன் மனித வாழ்க்கையின் அடிப்படை நோக்கமாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது?

Today we can speak through the telephone, can’t we? As soon as these radio waves were discovered by Scientist Marconi, his father would always say, “The Supreme Father who dwells in the supreme realm.” Marconi teased his father "The Supreme One is in that higher realm, while you are here below, if you speak here, will that sound reach Him there?” But when Marconi realized through science that if radio waves can carry a voice thousands of miles away, then truly, my father can call upon the Supreme Father in the supreme realm, surely He must hear it there. Through the very science discovered by that scientist, one comes to believe that there is indeed a Supreme Reality.

Therefore, any knowledge that does not serve science is of no use. And so, what must you do in this birth? You must pass the test. And what is the only way? To uplift you! Even if you have not studied, what can be done? You must be made to study. That is why, whether you practice meditation or not, one day you must come. Somehow, you must rise higher. You must be made to realize the Supreme Reality within you. For this reason, at least among us, we must perform this Holy penance and make you attempt it. Nothing is impossible if one tries.

Faith in the Guru is unshakable. First, it is not even about faith in Guru, it begins with faith in the Self. If you have faith in the Guru, can you sit here? The Guru will perform penance for our sake and depart. If you receive His blessing, that alone is enough to live a worldly life with riches and blessings. To bow before Guru and receive His blessing, that alone is sufficient to attain wealth, harmony, and many forms of prosperity. All the worldly riches needed can be obtained thereby. But if one seeks āmūkam—that is, the state beyond birth, the state of the liberated soul (jīvan mukta)—then one must follow the path shown by the Guru.

Every human being must realize the Self. Only then can he uplift others. A wife cannot grant liberation to her husband, nor a husband to his wife, nor parents to their children, nor children to their parents, nor a king to his subjects, nor subjects to their king. No one can bestow liberation upon another.

  • 5thVelvi(1995)-A guru is one who is the mother of many millions of people! | பல கோடி மக்களின் தாயாக இருப்பவர் தான் ஒரு குரு!

To achieve a high goal or fulfill an important duty, one must transcend hunger, thirst, and bodily discomfort. When the mind is fixed on the task, food and sleep lose their grip. For those whose work itself becomes their vision, the body’s demands fade away.

Consider building a new house: from laying the foundation until the day of housewarming, do we wander elsewhere or indulge in leisure? No, we remain focused. Similarly, in marriage preparations, until the ceremony is complete, we discipline ourselves, even adjusting our body and habits for the occasion. When a duty must be completed within a given time, hunger does not dominate; instead, divine thought fills the mind. When thought is united with the Divine, the body is forgotten.

This is the essence of penance. Disciples often ask: “Guru, What do you do in meditation? Do you simply sit? Do you merely think?” Such questions arise because they imagine austerity as inactivity. But true penance is immersion in divine thought, not outward display.

A Guru is like a mother. Just as a mother rushes to fulfill her child’s request whether by cooking, buying, or improvising, so too the Guru responds to the disciple’s yearning. Though one disciple may ask, he represents the longing of many. The Guru, as the mother of countless souls, acts for all.

When disciples gather, each shares their experiences. Through meditation, they realize that consciousness is not confined to one place. Just as one can meet a friend in another town, so too in higher states of meditation, one can connect across worlds and galaxies. We are united by consciousness, and wherever one ascends, others can perceive it.

Even a single day of meditation can give a glimpse of the “birthless homeland” - a realm without sorrow. That taste of bliss reveals what liberation truly means. Yet, the truth lies hidden within us. We forget it. Forgetting the Self is what we call birth. Through countless lives we wander, forgetting again and again.

The Guru, like a teacher, feels responsible to uplift disciples. Other enlightened beings watch, unseen, asking: “Paranjothiyaare! Will you help your children pass this test of life?” The Guru vows: “In this very birth, I will lead them to liberation.”

  • 5thVelvi(1995)-How does pilgrimage to Kasi and Rāmeshvaram, Tirupathi guide the soul’s upward path toward moksha? காசி, ராமேஸ்வரம், திருப்பதி யாத்திரைகள், ஆன்மா தனது உயர்வுப் பாதையில் மோக்ஷத்தை அடைய எவ்வாறு துணைபுரிகின்றன?

Where do we come from? We say we come from above. Truly, all beings originate from the higher realms. When asked, “Where has grandfather gone?” we instinctively point upwards. But in reality, the journey is from below to upwards — this ascent is called ūrththuvam (spiritual rising).

Thus, when elders pass away, it is said they go north — to Kāśi. What is Kāśi? It is the northern abode, the place where one renounces everything, completing the stage of vānaprastha and entering sannyāsa. One declares, “I have no worldly troubles; I go there to attain the Divine.”

When one goes to Kāśi, it is said they must leave behind something — lust, anger, greed, delusion, pride, or envy. Each visit is an opportunity to shed at least one of these qualities. That is why householders, after visiting Kāśi, must also go to Rāmeśvaram. Without this, the pilgrimage is incomplete. For family life, conceiving a child, Rāmeśvaram in the south is essential. Symbolically, the north and south represent the upward journey of energy — the latent force at the base of the spine must rise through each chakra until it reaches the crown.

Therefore, worship of Lord Venkatachalapati of the Seven Hills grants liberation (mokṣa). Devotees even celebrate His divine marriage, symbolically uniting the feminine power below (Alamelu Manga) with the masculine above (Śrīnivāsa). Within us too, three knots must be untied. We are born with three knots — Brahma granthi, Vishnu granthi and Rudra granthi. These granthis must be loosened so that the downward-pulling energies may ascend.

That is why saints like Avvaiyār sang of controlling the breath and awakening the fire in the mūlādhāra. Even before her, Chola king sought heaven through such practices. And whom did Avvaiyār worship? Lord Vinayaka. It is said that after she completed her Vinayakar Agaval hymn, Vinayaka lifted her with His trunk and sent her directly to heaven, to Kailāsa.
