In which I encourage you to ignore your problems! Mercury Retrograde has made its way into our consciousness as a mainstream discussion point, even among non-witchy people. Is some of the fear and agony around Mercury Retrograde rooted in hustle culture and our societal obsession with busyness and productivity? I turn these ideas on their heads and invite you to turn Mercury Retrograde into a healing retreat for yourself - choosing to mindfully recover from the cult of stressful overwork over the next several weeks. I have some big and small suggestions for how to empower yourself around this and reclaim your right to your own time. In today's episode I talk about balancing skepticism and spirituality. Many of us take an agnostic or skeptical view around what is really happening with spiritual/paranormal/supernatural phenomena, and yet feel drawn to magical practices. How do we reconcile this? I share my personal point of view that we don't have to reconcile it at all unless we want to -- we can opt to view belief as a tool, and use ritual and magic to have a meaningful psychological experience with measurable benefits on our health and happiness. There is evidence that ritual interacts with the subconscious mind, and there is also evidence that the subconscious mind drives a LOT of our behavior. In my opinion, it's worth taking an opportunity to interact with our subconscious in ways that is meaningful to us -- regardless of whether anything supernatural is actually happening. What do you believe around this topic? Further down in the show notes, I share links to peer-reviewed scientific studies around the measurable health effects of meditation and prayer, the effects that the subconscious has on our decision making, and the efficacy of certain essential oils to treat a variety of symptoms. I also share a sane list of essential oil safety tips -- because irresponsible MLM marketers on social media often advocate for types of essential oil use that are neither safe nor evidence-based. (Especially ingestion. You absolutely never have to ingest an essential oil, ever. That's not how aromatherapy works.) A diverse set of ideas for helping with overwhelm and stress - both psychological and witchy/spiritual. In today's episode I offer you a toolbox with a bunch of different ideas for dealing with overwhelm and stress. I divide the ideas into four main categories: Embodiment, Beauty and Sacred Spaces, Words, and Creativity, and give you multiple ideas in each category, both witchy and mundane. Then I share with you instructions for a favorite practice of mine - a listening walk (including non-movement or low movement options for those who may not be able to physically take a walk). In which I point you back to your own wisdom and tackle common struggles. In today's episode I talked about how to read the tarot cards for yourself. This is not a "beginner's guide to tarot" episode, but it does contain some advice for beginners. We cover how to choose a deck for yourself - how to work with the tarot when you are new and unfamiliar with the meanings of the cards - when to read for yourself and when NOT to read for yourself - predictions versus perspective - keeping a tarot journal - self care around readings - and how to make a card-a-day practice fresh and meaningful instead of BORING. In today's episode we are talking about saying no, in order to create a more spacious life to pursue what we really want. I talk about some reasons we say yes (or just let something happen) when we really mean no, and some strategies to help us feel able to say "no" with grace. I also share a ritual to create an amulet to help us say "yes" to what we really want, and "no" to what is not in alignment with it.
