In which I rant about our workaholic, patriarchal society and encourage you to love your body as an act of beautiful rebellion. In today's episode I discuss how hard it is to love our bodies (and ourselves) and suggest a framework of befriending and showing up, rather than forcing ourselves to jump into self-love when it feels false and unattainable. I strongly reject wellness fads that equate health and self care with thinness, culturally sanctioned attractiveness and a "no pain no gain" mentality. Instead we explore being kind to our bodies just as they are, right now. I share practical and magical ways to tune into your body, and go through the basics of a body listening practice. In which I explore ways to bring music into your magical and spiritual practice -- whether or not you have any musical experience or skills. In today's episode I share easily accessible ways to bring music into your practice, whether you are an experienced musician or someone who thinks they could never possibly make music. (I also tell you in no uncertain terms that if you think that. you're wrong: anyone can make music, yes, even you, and it doesn't have to be hard.) I remind you that you don't have to pass an entrance exam to make a creative mark on the world -- you can do it right now. I explore using music to facilitate altered states and inner journeys, raise energy, manifest your desires and dreams, reprogram your subconscious with healthier beliefs, and even as a form of divination. Go listen, I want the music in your heart to be let out into the world! This episode was recorded live with a (virtual) studio audience - thanks for tuning in, Sassafras Patrons! SassafrasCast Episode 21: On Surrendering and Letting Go In which I encourage you to lean into contradiction. In today's episode I talk about surrender and letting go - two things that the world tells us are good for our mental health, but there's no helpful instruction booklet to help us through these processes. Sometimes, instead of truly letting go, we repress the things we don't know how to face emotionally. This episode is about how to show up for yourself when you know it's time to surrender and let go of control -- but you have no idea how. SassafrasCast Episode 20: Choosing Your Own Magical Adventure In which I sit on fences and say that ALL magical paths are the best path - it's science. In today's episode I talk about ritual and spellwork, and discuss the pros and cons of following a tried-and-true path such as rituals from a spellbook or a ceremonial tradition, vs kind of making it up as you go along and hoping for the best. Spoiler alert, I endorse both things and encourage you to choose the magical adventure that best meets your needs at any given moment in your life. Includes a set of journaling/reflection questions to help you determine what that might be! This episode was recorded live with a (virtual) studio audience - thanks for tuning in, Sassafras Patrons! SassafrasCast Episode 18: Caitlin Liz Fisher and the Emerald Deck of Intuition In which we encourage you to choose self care over hustle, and celebrate our hiccups. In today's episode I interviewed Caitlin Liz Fisher, a coach, podcaster, and oracle deck creator. We talk about Caitlin's calling as a coach for creative humans, especially humans who are queer, neurodivergent and disabled. We discuss their journey from a toxically restrictive 9-5 job, to creativity coach and creator of many things. And we discuss their oracle deck, The Emerald Deck of Intuition, which they developed to aid in their coaching programs. The Emerald Deck of Intuition is based on role-playing game archetypes and ideas and connects this framework with our day to day needs to care for ourselves, set boundaries and expand our horizons.
