"Straight Outta Brownsville/Crazy animators named Fleischer/Won't ever be a studio that was nicer..." OK, OK, sorry. Couldn't resist. But yes, today's show features a discussion about the history of the Fleischer cartoon studio in New York City (and briefly in Miami). Max Fleischer and his brother Dave not only gave the world cartoon characters like Koko the Clown, Betty Boop, and the animated versions of Popeye and Superman, but inventions such as the rotoscope that are essential to animation production to this day.

In addition, we also talk about the family drama behind the scenes of the "Steve Jobs" film, what we think of the new "Daily Show" with Trevor Noah, why "black-ish" and "The Flash" are still awesome, and what "Empire" would be like if it were set at Hitsville USA 50 years ago.

On the day before the fifth anniversary of Steve Jobs' death, we discuss our preliminary thoughts on Danny Boyle's upcoming feature-film adaptation of his biography. We also touch on the new Apple products: the iPhone 6S Plus and Apple TV.

We talk at length about a favorite film of ours, "Children of Men" (2006), where no one has had a first birthday in 18 years and the world has fallen into dystopianism. We also discuss this past week's fall premieres, including "Scream Queens", "The Muppets", and "Empire", which may or may not have driven us...ape?

When you wish upon a public television network, the result might be PBS's "American Experience: Walt Disney", a documentary about a man so polarizing that any biographical treatment of him becomes an issue of contention. With Kareem out, Brandon and John dissect what was, and what wasn't, covered in the Disney documentary and fill in the blanks the film missed: Pat Powers, Technicolor, and, yes, where the anti-Semitism tag on Disney came from.

We're finally caught up and fully live, so Brandon, John, and Kareem take a little time to reintroduce themselves. In addition, we talk about "The Perfect Guy" dominating the box office, Steven Spielberg hating on superhero movies, the odd power-rankings within the Shazam! Family, a few of our personal favorite films, and another awesome Motown group that didn't quite get its full due.

Spike Lee is being given an honorary Academy Award next year, so naturally this inspired us to determine where, when, and why the Academy had passed him over in the past. Brandon, Kareem, and John also discuss the troubled history of animated feature films at Warner Bros., Master P fast-tracking his auto-biopic (is that a word?), NBC's new Black sitcoms, and more. We also try to see if we can find a place in the Motown Artist Who Didn't Make It section to connect said artist to a certain female Motown artist.
