Interview
This Episode’s Special Guest:
Robert Burik
I grew up in Pittsburgh and currently we live in NJ with our two golden retrievers. I’ve always had an affinity for armor, so that is what I build most. But I am very interested in figures too. I love all eras of history – medieval, American Civil War, Napoleonic period, WWII, modern … I have an appreciation for art, and so I love our hobby most when some folks merge what we do into real art.
I’ve been writing scale magazine articles and photo-history books for about 15 years now. It started with the Concord 3rd ID in Iraq book and at about the same time I did an article for Military Modelling on an Abrams. My specialty for publishing has become modern US subjects.
My books:
Thunder Run: The US Infantry Division’s Drive to Baghdad
NTC Fort Irwin
21st Century HEMTT and Family Members
UH-60 Black Hawk – Available for pre-order. *** Update April 12, Now Shipping! ***
I have also been the contributing author to several Sabot Publications books on the Abrams and Bradley. And my photos of US Army subjects have appeared in a few other books.
In addition, I have been helping US Army museums over the years with research and displays, including a major model project involving over 40 models at the 3rd ID Museum. A number of my dioramas are on display at different locations at Ft. Stewart (3rd ID).
As a result of the above, the 3rd Infantry Division gave me a civilian award for helping to keep the division history over the years.
