I have just received confirmation from Brian Johnson that I am licensed to produce his concept Space 1999 Mk IX Hawk cockpit for Round 2’s upcoming kit in 1/48 scale.

I only viewed the kit briefly at Wonderfest so actual design work will have to wait until it’s released and proper measurements can be made.

Still enjoying your podcast very much. Part 1 of the interview with Jonathan Mock was excellent, and am waiting for Part 2. I read Mr. Mock’s column in Model Airplane International, and it is always interesting and full of great insights. 

I fully agree with what he said about the people saying the “hobby is dying”. What nonsense! Each month kits appear that we would not have dreamed of 20 years ago. The hobby may be changing direction. Gone are the days when kits could be purchased for pocket change, and maybe as the Baby Boom generation ages out, we will see an end to the flood of German armor, Mustangs and Spitfires. For a generation brought up on Star Wars we will see a lot more sci fi models. And that is okay. The older kits will still be here, and new genres will bring in new modelers. It is all good.

Stuart jinxed me! On the recent Wonderfest episode, seconds after Stuart mentioned getting your Xacto knife impaled on your leg I found mine sticking out of my calf! What kind of voodoo does Stuart practice up there in the great white north? Yikes!

Despite the danger, I’ll keep listening. You guys do a super job and are great companions for my workbench. I know it takes a lot of time but us lonely basement and attic modellers really appreciate it. Just try to lay off the black magic though!

I grew up in Pittsburgh and currently we live in NJ with our two golden retrievers. I’ve always had an affinity for armor, so that is what I build most. But I am very interested in figures too. I love all eras of history – medieval, American Civil War, Napoleonic period, WWII, modern … I have an appreciation for art, and so I love our hobby most when some folks merge what we do into real art.

I’ve been writing scale magazine articles and photo-history books for about 15 years now. It started with the Concord 3rd ID in Iraq book and at about the same time I did an article for Military Modelling on an Abrams. My specialty for publishing has become modern US subjects.

I’m going to cross-post some of this to the other podcasts I listen to, as you all had a hand in this. I wanted to start by saying you were the FIRST model podcast I found, and I haven’t stopped listening yet!

I started this Amati 1/72 U-47 Resin and Photo Etch u-boat early last year. This was my first time working with PE. I’m thinking the smart move would have been to get other kits with just a few PE parts. I’m not smart. The big task was building the deck and superstructure all PE with a frame. After the months of completing this, I needed a break! You guys helped get me going again on this kit because “PE is somebody’s friend” (not mine). Anyhow, I did find some real comfort in putting all the rungs and decking on the conning tower. You’ve definitely made me a believer. Thanks for all your great podcasts. I’m still working from home, but I get out and walk the neighbourhood with you all keeping me entertained.
