II Corinthians 4:1-15
II Corinthians 4:1 – See Ephesians 3:4-9; 6:12. Heavenly places is referring to places of power (rulers on earth) – not Heaven itself.
II Corinthians 4:3-4 – The gospel was veiled to those who chose not to understand it. A parallel to this idea is Jesus speaking in parables.
II Corinthians 4:5 – “We” here could be used in the editorial sense, meaning only Paul, or it could be used to mean all the apostles.
II Corinthians 4:7 – The apostles were the only ones who had the treasure (the gospel) in earthen vessels (their bodies) to share with others. Paul is contrasting the greatness of the gospel with the relative lack of value of the vessel used to distribute it.
II Corinthians 4:8 – See II Corinthians 11:24-28. They were hard-pressed with persecution.
II Corinthians 4:12 – Paul was facing death daily to spread the gospel.

II Corinthians 2:17 – “Peddling” here is used in the sense of preaching for personal gain.
II Corinthians 3:3 – Paul is talking about those who had made the corrections he rebuked them for in I Corinthians. They were now acting as a living epistle. People who live by Christ today are also epistles that may lead others to Christ.
II Corinthians 3:5 – Compare II Corinthians 12:9 concerning Paul boasting in his weakness.
II Corinthians 3:6 – The Old Covenant brought spiritual death, but the New Covenant brought spiritual life.
II Corinthians 3:8-11 – The “ministry of the Spirit” (New Covenant) is more glorious than the “ministry of condemnation” (Old Covenant).

Negatively, I don’t believe I am a member of the saved relationship because:
I have obeyed rules that man laid down. Matthew 15:9
I believe in salvation by faith only.
I believe that I am part of the saved relationship because:
I have obeyed the word of the Lord Jesus. Matthew 7:21
Jesus is the author of salvation. Hebrews 5:9
I believe Jesus is the great I AM. John 8:24
I believe the gospel is the power of God to salvation. Romans 1:16
I repented of my sins. Acts 17:30; Romans 10:10; Acts 2:47

Why do you believe the church you are a part of is the right church?
Not because:
My parents attended that church.
Because:
I believe this congregation is patterned after the way Jesus authorized a church to work and worship.
