On this episode we had the pleasure of having a conversation with local captain Matt Perachio of Tighten Up Charters, Cape Cod. We have known Matt for several years, and fish a lot of the same grounds throughout Massachusetts and Cape Cod Bay.
Matt's offshore fishing career began during his childhood summers on Cape Cod with his family. Over the years his affinity for the ocean left him wanting more and eventually he transitioned from recreational and commercial striped bass fishing, to the adrenaline packed pursuit of light tackle bluefin tuna and taking out clients for hire.
Today, Matt is a full time charter fisherman and guide. He runs over 150 trips a season, with most of his trips being light tackle bluefin tuna trips; specifically targeting bluefin using casting and jigging tactics. Matt owns and operates a 27' Onslow Bay, and has several other charter captains and run and gun boats under his wing.
Matt is a wealth of knowledge and is extremely passionate about all types of fishing. In this conversation, Matt takes us through his charter fishing program. We talk about different tactics that we use for chasing striped bass and tuna throughout New England. Matt goes into detail on how he approaches light tackle tuna fishing. He talks about everything from rigging, finding fish, to approaching schools of busting tuna. Recently Matt and his crew have started an online resource for everything light tackle tuna fishing called Bluefin Plus. If you are a light tackle junky, make sure you check it out.
This conversation with Matt was awesome and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

On this episode we had the privilege of sitting down for a great conversation with Captain Bob DeCosta of Albacore Charters, Nantucket. We have known Bob through our network of fellow captains for quite some time, but have never had the opportunity to sit down and talk off of the water until this podcast.
Bob is a second generation charter boat captain with over 50 years of experience fishing the waters around Nantucket and Cape Cod. Bob runs Albacore charters along side his son Ray, who when not running charters with his dad, is a fire fighter on Nantucket.
Bob is a wealth of knowledge and is a master at putting his clients on fish. He is an incredibly well rounded fisherman, and is one of the most consistent producers in the northeast. In this conversation, Bob shares the story of how he started fishing. He talks about growing up on Nantucket, how fisheries have changed, and the tactics that he uses in his local waters. As always, a bunch of fish stories, tuna theories, and laughs are shared in this one.
We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

On this episode of the podcast it was our pleasure to host long time friend and fellow fisherman, Captain Jesse Martello. Joining him, another returning guest and owner of L.T Marine Products, Captain Chris Gergley.
We have known Jesse since we started our charter fishing business over 20 years ago. He is an incredible person, amazing fishermen, and is one of the most mechanically gifted humans on the planet. If it is broken, Jesse can fix it. He has decades of experience in the automotive industry, and has translated those skills to his passion of boats and fishing. Jesse runs a charter business of his own "Think Big Sportfishing" out of Mystic, CT.
Jesse and Chris actually met through us, and became close friends quickly; being that they are from the same area. Since then, Jesse collaborates with Chris on designing and testing products for L.T, and Chris works with Jesse on the charter boat.
In this conversation we discuss the importance of preparation, time on the water, and the amount of dedication it takes to become a consistent charter fisherman. We talk about similar methods we share when tuna fishing on Stellwagen Bank, and we also talk canyon fishing tactics. We also spend a bit of time discussing manufacturing products for one of the most abusive environments and against some of the world's hardest fish to catch.
We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

On this episode we sat down with Captain Mike Deskin and his good friend, mate, and fellow captain, Danny Young. Mike and Danny are two of the funniest humans we have ever met. They are also both insanely experienced fishermen.
Mike has been fishing for giant bluefin tuna and canyon fishing since the 1980s. He has chased bluefin from Cape Cod to North Carolina and beyond. Mike currently owns and operates "Destiny" a 38' Northern Bay out of Groton, CT. Danny has decades of fishing experience as well. He and Mike have put together quite the program aboard the Destiny. They are consistent producers from the Northeast Canyons to Maine.
In this conversation, Mike and Danny tell their origin story, we share our opinions on tuna behavior from area to area, we discuss green stick fishing, and tell a ton of fish stories. Mike and Danny are both of wealth of knowledge and entertainment, and it was a pleasure to have them on the podcast.
We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we have two returning guests, captains Rob Taylor and Seth Funt. If you haven't listened to our first episodes with these guys, Rob runs a charter fishing company out of Newport, RI called Newport Sportfishing Charters. Seth mates for Rob throughout the season, has a boat of his own, and runs a successful bed and breakfast in Bristol, RI. We always look forward to seeing these guys. They are both passionate fishermen, hilarious and love to nerd out on fishing theories.
The coolest thing about hanging with Seth and Rob for this podcast, was seeing the reconstructed tuna skull that they brought with them. Seth's brother-in-law (@dakusbones) creates unbelievable museum quality artwork from fish skulls and skeletons, and the boys brought a 118" giant bluefin skull from a fish they caught together. It is truly incredible to see up close. It took over two years to finish and one of a kind.
This conversation with Rob and Seth brought us in a bunch of directions, covering a ton of topics. We recap their 2023 tuna fishing season, chat about rod blanks and tackle, discuss how to keep live bait in perfect condition, and discuss tactics for catching giants off of the beaches of Rhode Island and in Cape Cod Bay.
It's always a pleasure to sit down with a couple of fun, like minded fishermen from our neck of the woods. We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we did!

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we visit Monahan's Marine in Weymouth, MA and join their crew for a great conversation. We sit down with Brian Curreri, Matt Connor, Marc Panico, and Conor Holway to discuss what it's like to run a full service marine service and fishing tackle business.
We recently partnered with Monahan’s, and are excited to be working with a local marine business that has been serving the South Shore of Massachusetts since 1961. For decades, the crew at Monahan’s has been helping generations of boat owners with outboard parts, boat service, marine equipment, and fishing tackle. Their professionalism and passion for being on the water has made them one of the most reputable boating headquarters in the Northeast.
Monahan’s is located on Washington Street in Weymouth. They are currently a Jones Brothers and Tidewater Boats retailer and have the most well stocked inventory of Yamaha Outboards, parts, and rigging in MA. The entire staff and crew of technicians have decades of experience. As a recent addition, Monahan’s has built and rigged out a brand new 4,000 sqft offshore and inshore tackle shop. The grand opening of this new space is set for Saturday April 6th. They will be fully stocked with everything needed for offshore canyon fishing, nearshore bluefin tuna fishing, striped bass fishing and more. We are excited to be able to use this space as a new home base to maintain our own tackle and charter fishing fleet, as well as a spot to film some upcoming podcasts and workshops.
In this conversation we discuss the beginnings of Monahan's business, their recent partnership with Scituate Boatworks, and their new tackle shop space. We tell a few fish stories and discuss our goals going into the 2024 fishing season.
We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we did!

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we were excited to sit down and talk everything bluefin tuna with our good friend and fellow fisherman Chris Weiner.
Chris and the rest of his family are harpoon fishermen out of Maine, and have been for decades. His experience and skills in hunting these fish on the surface is incredible. He is on another level in terms of understanding bluefin behavior, patterns, and nuances.
When Chris is not on the water pursuing these fish from above, he dedicates his time supporting his fellow bluefin tuna fishermen. He and his family have always been advocates for the fishery. Chris has spent many years involved in both the science and management pertaining to numerous Gulf of Maine, East Coast, and Atlantic-wide fisheries.
Over the past three years, Chris and his father spearheaded the development of a non-profit organization known as "The Bluefin Collaborative" whose focus is to connect bluefin tuna fishermen up and down the East Coast and work towards building a genetic data base on fish harvested and released. These efforts are to help showcase the health of the Atlantic bluefin tuna stock, pin point new spawning areas, and gather new migration data on this species.
For the past two seasons, we have helped collect samples for Chris and "The Bluefin Collaborative", taking fin and finlet clips from fish we have caught throughout our charter fishing season. We are excited to continue this for years to come, and help refine the sampling process with Chris and the rest of the TBC team.
In this conversation we discuss international bluefin tuna quota management, highly migratory species politics, old data sets vs what is being collected by "The Bluefin Collaborative", and much more. As always, we share a bunch of fish stories, including Chris's first experience fishing in Nova Scotia this past fall.
Chris is a very smart and passionate guy, and has a ton of information to share.
We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we did!

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we were excited to host Ben Gahagan and Bill Hoffman from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF).
Ben Gahagan is the Recreational Fisheries Program Leader at DMF. In his career he has served on multi-jurisdictional technical committees, stock assessment teams, and used a variety of techniques to understand the migratory movements and stock composition of fish as small as river herring and as large as Atlantic bluefin tuna. Ben is a lifelong angler and outdoorsman, he has been lucky enough to spend many hours pursuing those same fish and many other finned, furred, and feathered critters.
Bill Hoffman is a senior fisheries biologist for the state, where he has been working for 26 years. He manages the Fisheries Research and Monitoring project which includes leading a team that collects critical data, both at sea and dockside, for a variety of Massachusetts commercial fisheries to support stock assessment analysis and fisheries management decisions. On the fisheries research side, Bill specializes in tagging fish using acoustic telemetry. He has conducted multiple studies focusing on questions that range from understanding basic fish migration patterns of cod and striped bass to fishery-induced mortality for striped bass, cod, cusk, and haddock. When he is not at work, he can be found on his own boat fishing for giant bluefin tuna or in a tree archery hunting for whitetail deer on the Northshore of Massachusetts and in New Hampshire.
Last fishing season we collaborated with Ben, Bill, and the rest of their team, in helping them collect data for their recent efforts in analyzing post release mortality for striped bass. In doing this, we are working towards establishing healthy release best practices for this species. Ben and Bill are developing these resources for recreational anglers that target striped bass and they include proper fish handling upon landing, how to use circle hooks, fishing tactics, etc.
In this conversation we discuss this research program and our fishing trips from last season. We also discuss other ongoing research projects for striped bass and for several other species, including Atlantic mackerel and bluefin tuna. As always, our guests share a lot of stories, laughs, and some incredible knowledge.
We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we did!

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we were excited to host Captain Brett Wilson of Hindsight Sportfishing based out of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Over the past few years, we have had the pleasure of becoming friends with Brett both on and off the water. Brett is a great captain with decades of fishing experience under his belt. In our opinion, he runs one of the most professional and well respected charter operations in the Northeast.
Brett is a second generation fisherman. His father had a fishing charter boat out of Rock Harbor, MA for over 20 years. He started as a mate on his father's boat at the age of 10 and progressed to working on several different charter boats as a kid. At the age of 18, Brett received his captain's license. With his license in hand, Capt. Brett headed to the Florida Keys, where he furthered his career mating for some of the best captains in the world.
In 2010, Brett started Hindsight Sportfishing Charters aboard his 42' Duffy downeast boat. He runs over 150 trips a year with a stacked roster of returning clients and anglers. Overall, Brett puts in over 200 days per year on the water. During the winter months, he captains fishing charters in Florida and is also hired to run several sportfish boats in the sailfish tournament circuit.
Brett is a savage. Taylor and I have admired his approach to charter fishing and tuna fishing since we were young. In this conversation we discuss some great topics and Brett shares some incredible stories. Everything from hand-feeding grander bluefin tuna on Georges Bank, tournament fishing for sailfish down in Florida, scary experiences and lessons learned on the water, hunting stories, and much more. We had a blast and learned a ton.
We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we did!
