  • Episode 36 - The Pitfalls Of Chasing Perfection

In this episode of Seared, we dive into the dangers of perfectionism, using the example of a renowned chef Charlie Trotter, who pursued excellence at all costs.

While striving for excellence can be beneficial, it's essential to balance it with humility, mental health awareness, and self-care. Perfectionism can lead to significant suffering, impacting relationships, health, and overall well-being.

We explore the importance of perspective and how it can help mitigate the negative consequences of perfectionism. By understanding the pitfalls of this mindset, we can strive for excellence while maintaining a healthy and fulfilling life.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to excel in what you do and who you are, but it can literally kill you if you don't keep that sinister voice in your head that's telling you that it's not good enough in check.

  • Episode 35: Beyond the Public Eye - Our Heroes, Expectations, and Judgement

In this episode of Seared, we delve into the complexities of celebrity perception and personal expectations. Drawing from my encounters with renowned chefs, I share how my initial judgments were clouded by preconceived notions.

We explore the reality behind the public image, acknowledging that even our heroes face personal struggles and disappointments. It's also about understanding how expectation is generally flawed by nature, and that in having expectations of others, we set ourselves up for disappointment.

By fostering empathy and understanding, we can shift our perspective and appreciate the human side of those we admire. We can see the difference between standards and expectations, and in this episode, I share THREE POWERFUL ways to manage your expectations so that you can live a cooler, calmer life.

  • Episode 34: Stop Playing SAFE and Dare to be BOLD

In this episode of Seared, I discuss the risks of playing it safe and the importance of stepping outside your comfort zone. Using a restaurant I used to work at as an example, I illustrate how conformity can stifle creativity and uniqueness.

The key to avoiding being humdrum is to take small, imperfect actions to attract unexpected opportunities. The universe often meets us halfway, so daring to be different can lead to extraordinary results.

By breaking free from personal prisons of regret and embracing bold action, we can challenge the status quo and unlock our full potential.

And how to do that, exactly?

Well, you'll just have to listen ;)

  • Episode 33: Swearing - Does Spicy Language Help or Hinder?

Do you have a spicy vocabulary?
Told that you swear too much?
Does your speech sound like it comes from a Tarantino or Scorsese script?

This first episode of Season 2 of Seared is a deep dive into the power of language, specifically swearing. We'll explore how to harness the power of words, including the controversial four-letter ones. While swearing can be a tool for emphasis or connection, it's essential to consider context and company culture.

As leaders, our language sets the tone. It's about more than just swearing though; it's about active listening, body language, and personal integrity. Ultimately, while there's nothing inherently wrong with swearing, mastering your vocabulary is key to effective communication.

     Is that f@cking clear? 😉

  • Epsiode 32: Why Cooks Beef With Servers And The Power Of Choice

It's a stereotype - the chef (and cooks) yelling at the poor servers as they come into the back of the house to do their job.

I used to be like that too, until I realized a few things:

    1) I was being a jerk
    2) They're doing they're job and deserve to be treated well
    3) We're all on the same team

It came down to CHOICE - how I decided to see the situation and how I wanted to comport myself.

We ALL have choice in how we see ourselves, our problems, and how our lives unfold.

In this episode of Seared, I touch upon the whole FOH-BOH thing and then share how choice has so MUCH POWER in your life.

It literally can change your life....so listen up!

  • Episode 31: How To Find And Use Your VOICE

"Use your words" is something that parents will tell their children when the wee ones struggle to convey their feelings or needs.

This is something we can struggle with as adults too.

You have a voice, but maybe you struggle to find or use it. You're not alone!

Do you have a hard time letting others know what you need?
Do you mumble or mutter instead of being loud and clear?
Are you playing small and letting your voice reflect that?

In this episode of Seared, I look at how you can improve using your voice.

    Literally.

I give tips on how to find more of that confidence so that you can have more command of those around you (in the best way, of course!) and also increase the feeling of power that you naturally have.

You don't have to have a booming chef voice like yours truly to get your message across (although it can help at times ha ha!)

Leave a review, subscribe on YouTube, or share with someone who may be hiding their voice ;)

  • Episode 30: Bring Your Inner Child To Work

"Don't play with your food!" is something you've probably heard as a kid.

But playing with your food can be a great thing...when you're a chef.

Play is such a HUGE part of creativity and innovation.

You don't have to be in the kitchen to play around. You can be in the boardroom, the construction site, the studio, the auto shop, the sales lot...wherever...and use play as a way to build, grow, and create.

In this episode of Seared, I share an experience of a chef who blew my mind in terms of how he approached work and cooking.

I share with you ways that play can increase productivity, morale, innovation, and yes, even sales.

When everyone is in a workplace environment where play and exploration is modeled and encouraged, it becomes greater than the sum of the parts...and it's also a lot more fun!

  • Episode 29: Going Viral And The Power Of Being Seen

If you're a content creator, you probably dream of going viral, amirite?

Here's the deal: it ain't what it's cracked up to be.

    For realies.

Most creators who have gone viral agree - and while the attention can be great for some, for many it's challenging. Trolls. Bots. Skewed Algorithm. Larger, but now disengaged, audience.

There is a tug-of-war in many of us between wanting to be seen and NOT being seen.

In this (unscripted!) episode of Seared, I look at virality, but then get into this friction of seen/unseen. We examine this and the difference between acknowledgement and recognition and how you can learn to acknowledge yourself and others so that you can become a stronger leader and finer, more content, human being.

Of course I will share a few things from the kitchen just to make it land better.

We're frying up some goodness on this episode! So join in - review, comment, like, subscribe, share....

  • Episode 28: STOP Being in Denial

What are you in denial about, homie?

We ALL have those things in our lives where we have a convenient blind spot on.

Whether it's a small thing (denying that you hurt someone's feelings) or something big (denying that you have a substance abuse issue), denial is POWERFUL AF.

How do you step away from denial and into more freedom?

In this episode of Seared, I share examples of denial in the cheffing world and also in my own personal life. I also walk you through ways YOU can relieve yourself of denial so that you can step into a freer and lighter life!

  • Episode 27: You Won't Regret Listening To This!

    Regrets...you've had few right?

We all have had them - those cringe or painful moments where we feel sadness, guily, disappointment, or other similar feelings about things that have happened (or didn't happen).

Regrets are a type of self-directed resentment, and we all know that resentments are like poison to our system.

In this episode of Seared, I take a look at how YOU can overcome regrets through the example of the ONE thing that kept hammering at me.

When you can see regrets for what they are, and the emotions around them, you can release yourself from their heaviness and live life freer, with more joy and openness.

    Who wouldn't want that??
