The White Rock Enduro was exactly what I was looking for in a technical enduro. The roads were dusty, but the rocks and roots in the trail were still slick as all get out.
I was on row 28 again, this time following Dylan Souther from Colorado. We went back and forth all day. When it got tight, I would catch and pass him. The other times, he would either out ride me, or I would crash myself into oblivion.
Run Time on the Sherco at the 2024 White Rock Enduro was 4:28 & the miles were at 67.6. I was 12th Overall and 4th in the 40A Class. Fast old dudes, I LOVE IT!
P.S. I don’t know that I want to race this event when it’s wet and/or raining. I probably should though, so I can find a way to overcome the fear of having to attempt a few hillclimbs more than once.
Tip: Gummy trail tire next time for sure!

This episode is a bit different than other podcast episodes we’ve put out in 2023. This interview with Charles Castloo was done as research for a Seat Time youtube video. If this conversation resonates with you, make sure you check out the video on the Seat Time Youtube channel. I dive into the subject of goggle fitment a lot more in the video.

Skyler Howes recently announced that he has joined the Monster Energy Honda Rally Team (Rally Team HRC). His rally contract with Husqvarna Motorcycles ended early, with both sides deciding to go separate directions. This new opportunity with Honda allows Howes to keep growing in rally, while also looking for four wheel racing and adventures.
The rally season didn't start off as planned for Howes though. He had a massive get off at the Rally of Morocco during the prologue. The airbag recorded that his head hit the dirt at 25g's, which is a CRAZY amount of g-forces. The extent of his injuries weren't as bad as they could have been. Howes is already back to light training, expecting to start rally training again soon.
The idea of doing what Howes did, racing Rally as a privateer, is a dream for many. We discuss the costs it would take to make that dream a reality. The Malle Moto class sounds fun, but you'd need to be ready to beat yourself up while spending a huge chunk of change. I'll say it now though, I'm in!
Nutrition and hydration are also an important part of being at the top of your game for rally racing. The amount of calories they consume, and the fact that they use condom catheters, was a lot to take in. I eat a ton of calories now, but for a race like the Dakar Rally, I'd have to really step my game! New video idea, test out different condom catheters (maybe not).
Huge congrats to Skyler Howes on his signing with Team HRC Rally. He's riding a works factory rally bike, and looking to win the Dakar Rally. We wish him the best. We also hope there's a chance to ride his rally bike in the future. We can all dream, right?!?!

Ricky Russell and I first got to hang out WAYYY back in 2013 at the Big Sky XC National Championship. Crazy reminder that I've been doing this for A LONG TIME!
Ricky grew up in the Pacific North West, and I REALLY want to ride my dirt bike there one day. It sounds like he's down for a guided tour. Let's see if we can talk him into it.
As a professional racer, he's not extremely picky, but he does have some small adjustments that make his bike his setup. He also recommends not flipping your YZ450F upside. Solid advice if you ask me.
Nutrition on race day, and leading up to it, is being talked about more and more by dirt bike racers and I'm here for it. This was a great rabbit hole for Ricky and I go down. Being properly fueled isn't as simple as grabbing the closest supplement and hoping for the best. Every riders body is different, and you have to figure out what works best for you. Hopefully you took away some nutrition nuggets, and that you want to ask more questions.

There’s no denying that Trystan Hart is now one of the top Hard Enduro racers around the world. He’s been riding for the FMF KTM Factory Offroad Racing Team since 2020, all while steadily gathering podiums, building confidence, and winning high profile events. It was fun to hear him describe himself as steady, and someone like Billy Bolt as Flashy. I very much agree!
This podcast episode dug a bit deeper in the back story of Trystan and his early motocross journey. It was cool to hear that Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Motocross was once on his family's radar. An unfortunate femur injury kept that from happening, but it did give us some humorous discussions about full-body casts. Something that’s also cool to see is that he recently launched a book, Hard Enduro Hero, that’s now available on Amazon. I hope this book gives younger audiences a way to see they can accomplish whatever dream they have with some hard work, dedication, and staying focused on being authentic to themselves.
Thank you Trystan Hart for your time! It’s been a pleasure to watch you grow through the ranks of Endurocross and Hard Enduro. Excited to see where your racing takes you!

John Short is a Supercross and Motocross racer from Texas. He's known for many things, but one is certainly his mustache as of late. Recently he became a first-time father and had wrist surgery. So his life is very different than it was just a few months ago.
As we dove into the big topics of this episode, the Rider Triangle was our focus. I've heard about the perfect rider triangle for too long these days across social media. I knew it was time to dig in and start a deeper discussion. We also discuss what training, hydration, and nutrition looks like for a professional racer. I was deeply excited about this part of the conversation. We then wrapped up with my traditional Bike/Body/Mind questions.
John Short is a super cool dude, and very down to earth. I really enjoyed our conversation. I hope his wrist heals well and he's back on the Supercross track for 2024. I also hope he and I get a chance to create some content together. I know I could learn a lot from him.

Episode 23.7 is all about finding a balanced bike. It starts with spring rate, setting your sag, then fork tube height, and we tweak from there. The goal in all of this is to find a baseline setting that keeps the rider comfortable, stable, and propelling the bike forward.
Alan "Doc" Cotton is a Race Tech Suspension tuner out of his shop, 812 Suspension, in Round Rock, Texas. This is the second time he's been on the Seat Time Podcast, as he was a guest back in 2021 on Episode 21.3. For this episode, we discuss all the things that go into a balanced dirt bike setup. Toward the end, we also discusses a few Bike, Body, Mind things that keep Doc enjoying himself while #GettingSeattime!

Jordan Ashburn, your 2022 GNCC National Bike Champion, is our guest for the June episode of the Seat Time Podcast. We set the timing up for this interview right before the John Penton GNCC. As luck would have it, Ashburn was the winner of the Penton, and the seventh winner over seven races so far during the 2023 GNCC Season; Pretty Wild! We had to dive into what the 2023 Penton race and win was like, but there were so many other topics to chat about with Jordan.
Since Jordan Ashburn has competed in so many Hard Enduros, we had to have the Two Stroke vs Four Stroke discussion. That led us into the electric dirt bike discussion, and where we think the sport could be headed as more electric motorcycles hit the market. As I have been doing a lot lately, I asked him about his mindset when it comes to racing. That was a fun rabbit hole. Once the bike setup topic came up, we learned Ashburn enjoys a fairly stock bike, keeping aftermarket parts to a minimum. There were also many more tidbits for everyone to take away.
