Revelation of Section 58: Shortly after arriving, Joseph Smith received a revelation (Section 58) instructing the elders on how to proceed. The revelation promised tribulation before Zion's establishment but laid out the steps for achieving it.

Vision of Zion: Section 58 presents a grand vision of Zion as a feast for all nations, with the rich and learned invited first, followed by the poor and the afflicted. The early Saints were privileged to lay Zion’s foundation despite the challenges.

Bishop Edward Partridge's Transformation: Initially, Edward Partridge struggled with doubt but eventually repented and followed the revelation with faith. He acknowledged his shortcomings but accepted his leadership role in Zion.

Sacrifices and Obedience: Partridge informed his wife, Lydia, about the hardships they would face in Missouri. Despite difficulties, both he and Lydia committed to building Zion, even though it meant leaving behind family and comfort.

Consecration of Wealth: Martin Harris was the first to consecrate his wealth to the Church, setting an example for others to follow in their efforts to build Zion.

Sidney Rigdon’s Role: Sidney Rigdon was tasked with drafting the description of Zion and dedicating it. Although the Lord initially rejected his draft, he eventually succeeded in fulfilling his role.

Ongoing Mission: Section 58 continues to motivate modern Saints, balancing the call to preach the gospel and build Zion as they await Christ’s second coming. The revelation has progressively been fulfilled, with both rich and impoverished populations being gathered.

Edward Partridge’s Leadership: Partridge was instrumental in preparing the Saints for Zion, while the elders were sent forth to invite all nations to partake in the blessings of the gospel.
