  • Rise Up Ladies: Featuring Vivian Chen

Vivian had a dream most women would kill for, a Brand Marketing Specialist at L'Oreal, working with top makeup brands. But it wasn't long before she grew tired of the typical 9-5 work day and decided to branch out on her own,

Her first entrepreneur business-venture never really made it off the ground, so she decided to try out independent consulting. It wasn't long before she'd put together an impressive list of clients. From startups to Fortune 500 companies, Vivian knew she had done something right. It wasn't long after that that she was offered a job in a position several levels higher than when she left her previous job, just from building experience on her own time.

Vivian thought if she could do it, so many other women could, too, and RISE was born: The networking community linking creative thinkers with innovative companies to work on projects. RISE also offers affordable health plans for self-employed professionals by women, for women.

  • Written In The Stars: Featuring Aliza Kelly

Aliza Kelly (who's zodiac sign is Leo), started her first business in astrology in her early 20's - an astroligical dating app. Though that idea never fully took off, Aliza's love for the stars never did. Around 2016 the world finally caught up with her, and magazine's and media companies started adding more astrology content.

Aliza believes that astrology can be used as a tool of empowerment for women everywhere. Reading horoscopes and believing in star signs is traditionally a very feminine thing to do. And, a lot of times things that are "feminine" are also labeled as "silly" or "stupid". Now that the world has opened itself up to learning more about astrology, it's opening doors for all genders to do things that are considered feminine without fear of being made fun of.

Most recently, Aliza has started the Constellation Club, a virtual coven for astrology and magick where members can enjoy exclusive offers on chart readings, bonus episodes to her podcast, and 24/7 access to the members-only community on Instagram and Discord.

"It's very important for women to support each other, because we don't even realize all the ways that we've been told to compete against each other - and that there's not enough room for all of us. But the truth is, is that we are the ones who are defining what that is. We can make as much room as we want at the dinner table." [17:58]

  • We Need Women in STEM: Featuring Randi Zuckerberg

Welcome to the inaugural episode of the new See It To Be It podcast, formerly On The Spot with Melinda Garvey! Our very first guest is Randi Zuckerberg, an inspiration and advocate for women in tech everywhere.

While Facebook was still just a start-up, Randi was there from the beginning helping out Mark Zuckerberg with marketing. By the end of her time there, she created Facebook Live, the social network's first introduction to live broadcasting.

One of the biggest challenges she faced in Silicon Valley was the shockingly low amount of women in tech compared to her home in New York. She says "... the glass ceiling was really low. If I sat up I'm was gonna bump my head on it!."

Since then, Randi has devoted so much of her work to teaching young girls interested in STEM, and investing in female-led start-ups.

Most recently, she launched Zuckerberg Institute - the virtual hub for entrepreneur's that offers mentorship, online sessions to build important skills, and even small-group intensives and all-day seminars all with the same goal of helping you build your business.

Randi's favorite job is being a mom to her 3 kids. Though she travels a lot, she always makes time to play boardgames with her husband and children, even if it's on Facetime!

"By the end of next year... there will be 1 million open technology jobs that are just sitting open, that can't be filled because there aren't enough people graduating with the skills and degrees to fill those jobs. So here we are sitting in maybe a recession economy with a million high-paying jobs just sitting open. It really is a crisis level of getting more young girls and women to focus on these areas." • Behind the Camera: Featuring Nicole Dorsey

Being a woman in film is nothing short of challenging. Nicole Dorsey knew she wanted to be a director since she was a child, but she's experienced her fair share of adversity in the film industry.

Growing up, she wasn't aware of too many female directors to look up to. She worked quite a few different jobs both in front of and behind the camera before taking a seat in the director's chair. But most of all, Nicole wants to tell stories for every voice, because "it's hard to become what you can't see".

"It feels like it's a label so that everyone can pat themselves on the back now for talking to me. Or like I have a special waiver to enter into a space because I'm a woman. And I don't feel like it's a special waiver, because I've worked over a decade to get to where I am now. It wasn't like I was able to walk into the door simply because I'm a woman." [6:00]

  • Finding Your Tribe: Featuring Angela Hosking

One of Angela's mottos is: "If it's not there, go and create it." And her work reflects it.

Angela started Her One Tribe first as a blog, turned it into an ever-growing community of supportive women who are intent on putting an end to the term "mean girls".

Though we've made great progress, the climate for women who are trying to succeed in the workplace can be still be very harsh. Angela started Her One Tribe because she knew the only way to change the world, was for women to empower each other.

She also realized that most of the leadership books that are currently published have been written by men. Woman On Top: Lead Like A Lady Boss is a business leadership guide geared specifically for women who want to capitalize on their fierce femininity.

  • Re-Writing Your Story: Featuring Becca North

After experiencing a pretty devastating let-down herself, Becca started seriously thinking about failure. Why do so many successful people typically suffer a significant failure first? Becca knew there had to be a correlation between failure and success, and she set out to get to the bottom of it.

In her research, she discovered that the way we think about failure can hugely affect our decision making. If we view failure as such a terrible, un-speakable thing, it becomes something we want to avoid at all costs. But if we view failure as base for learning from our mistakes, we can grow and get closer to achieving our goals.

Becca believes that everyone should talk about failure more often to remove the stigma. In her book, "Your Hidden Superpowers: How the Whole Truth of Failure Can Change Our Lives" she combines her research and interviews to change the reader's way of thinking and help maximize their potential.

  • Leaning Into Confidence: Featuring Amy Barone

Amy Barone is a novelty. While many people in media careers tend to bounce from job-to-job, Amy got to watch her career grow while staying in the same place at Tableau Software. She went from working at a small startup with about 30 employees, to becoming Sr. Director of Marketing Events & Engagement Programs to a company that now boasts a staff of nearly 4,000.

Then she was introduced to Splash, an end-to-end marketing technology that really stood out to her as a 12-year marketing professional. Amy took on the new role of Chief Strategy Officer at Splash in 2019 with confidence, despite being in a male-dominated field. It was her years of training and trust in herself that led her to success.
