It’s officially our first cross-over episode this week! Amy and Sarah are joined by the host of the Faces and Feels Podcast, Raffe Houston. Why is SYNWiS teaming up with a wrestling podcast you ask? It’s because this week we’re talking about a real gem of a “sci-fi” movie: Suburban Commando (1991). The premise: Hulk Hogan is a bounty hunter from outer space.
Hey cuties, we’re SO happy to celebrate our return and our 1-year anniversary!!! We’ve had so much fun doing this and it’s time to get back at it. This week, us gals talk about a true sci-fi classic cartoon: The Jetsons. We take a trip down memory lane and investigate Judy’s flightiness.
Happy New Year, SYNWiS fam!!! Here’s to the truly terrible 2020 being gone for good. In honor of this truly auspicious day, Amy and Sarah talk about the American debut of Korean director Bong Joon-ho: Snowpiercer (2013). Join them as they talk about what NYE looks like in 2031. Hint: not great.
Christmas is finally here and all Amy and Sarah can say is, “Hooray for Santy Claus!” That’s right, this week the ladies talk about one of the weirder sci-fi classics: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964). A truly perfect Christmas kids’ movie, you get all the Santa you want AND Martians!
Is a movie about an emo mechanical man with scissors for hands even a holiday film? This week we do our best to answer that very important question when we discuss Edward Scissorhands (1990). One thing’s for certain, you’ve never heard Sarah and Amy talk so much about waterbeds.
In the second installment of our holiday series, we talk about a pretty excellent episode of The X-Files (1993-2018). Obviously one of the more beloved sci-fi series of the past decades, the Christmas episode from 1998 does not disappoint.
It’s officially the Christmas season and our gift to you is another holiday-themed series. Perhaps surprisingly, there’s actually quite a lot of scifi properties that ALSO care about Santa season. This week, the girls talk about one of the most reliable holiday scifi specials: Doctor Who (2005-present).
Though not a traditional Christmas movie, Prometheus (2012) does take place in the final days of 2093. Unfortunately, there’s nothing particularly cheery about this film, despite its star-studded cast and fancy director. Both Amy and Sarah were less than impressed…
Though this isn’t officially part of our holiday series, it turns out we were ready to jump into the season with both elven-shod feet! This week, Sarah and Amy talk about an episode of Sliders (1995-2000). As always, they get more out of the 90s outfits than the show itself.
In response to a listener request, we’re talking about The Fifth Element (1997) this week. What did we learn? Maybe the story you wrote when you were 16 isn’t really screenplay material. Also, Chris Tucker has one of the best screams in Hollywood.
