See You Next Week ...in Space!

Here at SYNWiS we’re sad to see Halloween go, but we eased our pain with Manimal (1983). A show that lives primarily in memory to be panned by the internet at large, we thought we’d join the fun. Happy to report that “Scrimshaw” didn’t disappoint!

It’s finally here: Halloweeeeeeen!!! And this week marks the conclusion of our Pod People series. Amy and Sarah check out the 1995 re-make of Village of the Damned. Unsurprisingly, they most enjoyed acting done by children.

It’s Pod People Part 2 this week and the gals talk about a sci-fi classic: The Twilight Zone (1959-1964). Only the third episode from the black and white days, this is a real gem. Would you know an alien if you saw one? The answer might surprise you.

Time to hop in the way, way back machine and take a trip to the halcyon days of the late 1990s. Amy and Sarah talk about 1998’s The Faculty this week. It boasts a truly all-star cast and an incredible array of 90s fashion, so you know the gals loved it! This also kicks of the three-week Halloween “Pod People” series.

Yes, you did in fact read that title correctly. This week, Amy and Sarah talk about the third installment of the Sharktopus series of films produced for the SyFy channel: Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf (2015). Similar to its cousin franchise, Sharknado, this movie delivers just what you would imagine from a B-movie featuring BOTH Casper Van Dien and his now ex-wife.

This week, Sarah and Amy return to the world of sci-fi television with the SyFy original series Eureka (2006-2012). As if all the other weird tech gadgets and malfunctions weren’t enough, this episode shows that the top secret town of Eureka also has an entire biodome…underground! Things get wacky though when one of the residents goes missing.

So nice we had to do it twice! Here’s the second installment of Amy and Sara’s ranting about Starship Troopers (1997). And, yes, this is where we talk about the shower scene…

You asked for it and the big day is here! The girls talk about the sci-fi satire Starship Troopers (1997). Though no one specifically requested this, it’s the movie we’ve been most asked about, so it seems only fitting that we celebrate the end of summer with this true American classic. Get ready to talk about multiple types of goo!

Amy and Sarah return to the realm of sci-fi television this week to talk about Nightflyers (2018). Based on an early novella by George R.R. Martin, this series is just as weird and violent as you might imagine. Sadly, for our intrepid co-hosts, this episode is so odd that it’s hard to tell if they even understood it at all.

It’s the conclusion to our coverage of 1993’s Demolition Man. This week we see what the San Angeles PD uses to combat the horror of a 20th century criminal. Turns out, it’s another “cretin” from the past…
