  • How Epigenetics Can Transform Your Health with Dr. Laura Hughes

    Season 2, Episode 67

Join your hosts Carmen and Sophia Micsa and learn about our guest Dr. Laura Hughes. She believes in getting to the root of the problem through naturopathic medicine, as well as taking a different approach than a Western-trained medical doctor.

Dr. Laura Hughes is an award-winning PhD researcher and Naturopathic Doctor, but she is not your typical academic. Dr. Hughes has strayed from the traditional path to bridge the gap between hard data and the magic of being human. Using her distinctive 'Science Meets Spirit' method, Dr. Hughes has communicated through her top-rated podcasts, high-impact speaking engagements, and transformative group coaching programs, as she has empowered thousands of people worldwide to unlock their true health potential.

On this Seeds of Sunshine episode:

    • Dr Hughes strives to help her patients understand why they're here and what their bodies are doing, as well as not be afraid of disease, dying, and death
    • With her Ph.D. in epigenetics, which is the way our genes express themselves, Dr. Hughes wants us to distinguish between the genes that we get from our parents and know that our genes aren't our destiny because our genes are just a blueprint.
    • Additionally, it is our environment, our mindset, our thoughts, our food, the toxins around us, how we move our bodies, and what we expose our bodies to that will determine our diseases.
    • Moreover, it's never too late to make changes, for our genes aren't our destiny. On the contrary, making simple changes daily compounded over time is quite empowering about the future.
    •  Dr. Hughes believes that we'll live a little bit differently, appreciate nature more, and maybe live each day with more gratitude and intention.
    • There's no need for biohacking because your body and your cells are going to be manifesting differently.
    • Everyone is interested in anti-aging, but Dr. Hughes believes that we should not be afraid of aging because aging is a gift.

  • Hacking Life after 50 with Author Mark Barnes

    Season 2, Episode 58

Join your hosts Carmen and Sophia Micsa
to learn about hacking life after 50 with author Mark Barnes.

    Mark Barnes
is a longtime educator, entrepreneur, and co-author of Hacking Life After 50: 10 Ways to Beat Father Time and Live a Long, Healthy, Joy-Filled Life. He is on a quest to live past 100 and bring anyone interested along for the ride.

Mark's parents were great models for living a long, meaningful, joy-filled life. They believed in showing up, working hard, and helping people in need. Mark followed their example and became a teacher and a coach. During his nearly 30 years in education, and especially when Mark turned 50, he realized he had a lot more to do in and out of the classroom. Physical and mental well-being and living until and beyond 100 became obsessions. Together with his like-minded friend Jim Sturtevant, Mark decided to share their journeys and everything they know in Hacking Life After 50 with practical strategies to make this happen.

On this Seeds of Sunshine episode:

    • Mark wishes to debunk the view of the elderly that they're broken down, that they're diseased, and that they can't.
    • Both Mark and Jim learned through education, research, and most importantly practice that people can, in fact, live long, hopefully to 100 or beyond with joy and in good health if that's what they want.
    • Longevity is a hot topic nowadays.
    • After having learned and practiced, Mark and Jim decided to write their book as various hacks to let everyone out there who has the same similar problems learn how to solve those problems and how to live a long healthy life.
    • Some of the hacks: creating purpose, or even maybe recreating purpose.
    • Their favorite phrase is "the momentum mindset," which is a set of attitudes devoted to growth.
    • Sleep is arguably the most underrated factor in longevity.
