    Episode Highlights

    [01:59] What Sue Does

    • Sue is a speaker, author, and mentor on spiritual growth and connecting with God.
    • She is a people-gatherer who loves to invite people over for a hot meal or a good conversation.
    • Sue’s no Martha Stewart, but she’s willing to cook with you or share a recipe or two.

[06:55] Challenges in Connecting to People During the Pandemic

    • She still has people over. However, because of the pandemic, she needs to limit the number of people she invites.
    • Sue can't have full-blown gatherings anymore. However, Sue always looks for the silver linings: her two adult children came home.
    • The pandemic also accentuated her message that we should be more aware of life’s brevity.
    • Sue's had to be intentional about when and where she hosts her gatherings and who she invites.

[09:05] "People need to know that this life is not all there is. I mean, we wake up in the morning, we don't think, 'Today I'm going to die.' But people did die...And I want people, myself included, to be more aware of the brevity of life." - Click Here to Tweet This

    [12:14] Handling Online Events

    • Sue tried pre-recording one of her talks for an online event but doesn't care for it. She prefers to see people's faces live.
    • However, she still did a couple of virtual events.
    • Sue also cut her typical speech time of 45 minutes to 20 and provided group facilitator questions.
    • The best way to comprehend and internalize the Holy Spirit’s message is to discuss it immediately.
    • She always allows time for Q&A.

[18:05] The Importance and Meaning of Hospitality

    • God is the ultimate host, and He invited us first. So, if we want to be more like Him, we should practice hospitality.

    • Someone may not know about God, but they're willing to come over for a meal or drink. They may not know it, but your hospitality is God’s way of pursuing them.

    • One meaning of hospitality is showing God's love to people. It doesn't have to be homemade or grand. It can be as simple as coffee and donuts.

[20:09] "There are no deadlines to come into God. We open our door, even in COVID. That means going somewhere where we're sitting outside in the rain with an umbrella, and God has called us to get to know that person. That is hospitality." - Click Here to Tweet This

    [24:53] Hospitality in Listening

    • Listening is one of the best aspects of hospitality. When someone feels heard, they feel loved.
    • God calls us to pour out our hearts to him.
    • When you listen to your friend’s anger or worries and turn them over to God, this is another meaning of hospitality.
    • Hospitality in its biggest, wonderful, and smallest form is taking people to the feet of Jesus.

[28:58] Growing Up to Learn the Meaning of Hospitality

    • Sue grew up with imperfect hospitality, but she was the fourth of five siblings.
    • She wrote an article on why we should be hospitable, but she realized she needed to know about other people’s experiences too.
    • To learn the meaning of hospitality, you have to practice it. It gets easier over time if you practice it repeatedly.

[31:07] "And isn't that the truth? When we're insecure in who we are and not counting on God's confidence, we are afraid to show our failings." - Click Here to Tweet This

    [34:28] Hospitality Versus Entertainment

    • When we have an image of what hospitality should be, it blocks us from the true meaning of hospitality: God’s way.
    • When you’re entertaining guests, you focus on yourself. When you do that, it means you're either proud or insecure.
    • To help you stay confident, learn one recipe and become very good at it. Do it well, and it can save any meal.
    • If we are only entertaining, we can't serve the person God has graciously brought to our table.

[35:50] "The difference between hospitality and entertaining, is that entertaining, you're focusing on yourself. And whenever we focus on ourselves, we're either proud or we're insecure. And either one means that we can't really serve this person that God has graciously brought to our table." - Click Here to Tweet This

[37:15] Why People Don’t Practice Hospitality

    • Some people were not raised in a hospitable home, so they are not comfortable doing it.
    • However, you must break the "chain of un-grace'' for the sake of the gospel, your children, and yourself.
    • Others don’t practice hospitality because they fear embarrassment. However, you can train the people in your household to practice the true meaning of hospitality.
    • Some people think hospitality is synonymous with food, but it’s not.
    • There are many reasons why people don’t practice hospitality. Tune in to the full episode to hear Sue’s discussion on how to practice it anyway!

[42:18] Service and the Meaning of Hospitality

    • The core of Sue’s message is service.
    • There’s a difference between going out to serve others and inviting someone into your home.
    • If people think you’re perfect, they might not share their vulnerabilities with you.

[46:44] How Hospitality Brings People Together

    • First, you have to pray before your guests come over to develop your hospitality antenna. Your hospitality antenna helps you detect who you're supposed to invite into your life.
    • There are people who you’ll invite who aren’t your favorite people. Sometimes these are the people who need you the most.
    • Conversation starters are a great help and a blessing because it's fun. By using them, you get to know people better.
    • Listen to the episode for Sue’s stories on how a conversation starter can build a deep connection with someone in your home!

[47:01] “There are people who have been in my home that are not my favorite people. I think God has given us natural affinities to certain people. But those are the ones that perhaps need your focus the most. So you have to get over yourself.” - Click Here to Tweet This

    [56:21] Defining a Legacy

    • You must ask the question: “What are you doing now to build into eternity?”
    • Sue defines legacy as having to do with people or God's words because they both last forever.
    • We need to show and become a representation of God’s love to others.
    • Legacy is not something we wait for after we die.

    [01:06:43] Seek, Go, Create

    • Sue chose “create” because she wants to create an atmosphere of love, acceptance, hospitality, and good food.
    • Churches usually invite Susan to talk at event centers, retreat centers, hotels, and the like. Sue also speaks during Christian women's events.
    • As a speaker, she can also talk about topics that can cater to different group types.

    • Glori shares that they were already facing challenges before marriage. Overcoming them made their relationship stronger.
    • Before having children, their lifestyle was more relaxed and focused on keeping their lives in order.
    • Having children is a whole different season, but it makes you see the changing seasons more.
    • Tim and Glori loved experiencing the stages of their child's growth, but children leave home eventually. Living in an empty nest was just another new season.

[16:35] Remember That Jesus is Always with You
    • There may have been seasons of struggle, but there are also seasons of celebration and blessings of life God has offered.
    • Glori realized that it was a beautiful season as her family enjoyed life in beautiful places.
    • You can still find peace and joy amidst a season of hardship.
    • Remember that Jesus Christ has a plan for you. Trust his way, and you'll experience joy and peace no matter what you're going through.

[19:02] “He is working all things out for your good. That doesn't mean we're not going to have trials or tribulations, but it's all working out for your good if you believe that it is and that you know He's working on your behalf and that He is your joy and your peace whether the circumstances you're in are joyful or peaceful.” - Click Here to Tweet This[25:13] The Season of Having ‘Old Parents’

    • Tim and Glori share that there are both physical and mental stresses during this time, especially watching their parents' health deteriorate.
    • Their parents need to have access to medical services. Arranging these services for their parents has been challenging and stressful.
    • Most of us will not have the chance to see our parents take care of their parents, so this is something new and unknown.
    • Glori encourages us to seek the Lord's guidance when we feel like we're at a dead end.

[29:25] “It's like a lot of seasons in my life. I don't know how to handle a lot of it, so I just have to pray and ask the Lord for him to open up doors.” - Click Here to Tweet This[31:18] Submit to the Lord
    • We may think that we have control over many things in our lives, but this is not the case.
    • When you believe you can control everything, you naturally put more pressure on yourself.
    • Remember that you cannot control other people and situations. Only the Lord is in control.

[33:19] Seasons of Hard Work and Rest
    • There are millions of people who left the workforce. More are expected to quit by the end of the year.
    • Leaving the workforce gives people the chance to reflect and understand their long-term passions.
    • Glori shares that when they were younger, they used to work harder and stayed up longer, thinking that this was the path to success.
    • However, they now understand that creativity needs rest.
    • There will be seasons where you need to hustle, but remember that you also need time to rest and recover.

[35:17] “We are in a season where we actually understand our creativity comes when we're at a place of rest. If we're tired, it's harder for us to be creative.” - Click Here to Tweet This[38:08] Ownership to Stewardship
    • The storehouse principle is understanding that your money and resources are gifts from the Lord.
    • Eventually, he will multiply the work of your hands.
    • Everything we own is not ours — it's the Lord's.
    • The shift towards stewardship led to the results of their current business endeavors.

    • Glori shares that she is in a season of rest and growing her relationship with the Lord.
    • She can find peace by not trying to impress others. She only cares about the Lord.
    • Love Him with all your heart and soul, including yourself and others. You cannot learn to love others if you do not love yourself.
    • Tim and Glori once dreamed of boasting their material gains to people. Now, they want to grow as people without worrying about presenting a wealthy facade.
    • You should not judge actions against what you think is right. Instead, take it to the Lord.

[45:03] “I know too many people that have things and things have them. I don't want to be in a place where things have me, I want things to be a tool for me to do whatever I was put here to do.” - Click Here to Tweet This[49:06] Seasons Change
    • Even if you’re in a difficult season, it will change and pass. Fostering your relationship with the Lord helps you endure this process.
    • Don’t give up and give in to fear.
    • Find peace in the Lord and trust that things will work out. Embrace the season you’re in.
    • Even if you’ve laid out a ‘perfect’ plan for yourself, the Lord’s plan for you still triumphs. Thus, you should always trust the process.

    [52:13] The Seasons of Thanksgiving
    • Glori reminds us that there’s no need to get everything on the list. Gestures as small as baking cookies and writing encouraging notes could be more meaningful than you know.
    • We should remember that Jesus is the gift on this Earth to restore our relationship with God.
    • Be joyful and thankful for God’s great gifts.

    • Optimize your economic fundamentals as much as possible. You can’t know how well you’ve done without understanding your numbers.
    • In some cases, you can get away with it, but only if you have a deep understanding of your products and customers.

[39:04] “Before they think about growth, they need to ensure that the economic fundamentals of the business are as optimized as it can be.” - Click Here to Tweet This[42:35] Marketing for Business Growth

    • People discover brands through active and latent intent.
    • Google and Facebook may be able to target certain demographics, but in focusing on these, they lose the ability to know their economic value.
    • Your business needs to focus on your brand value and community.
    • Fundamental principles of business, like copywriting, have not changed even though the format has.

[46:39] “There's a resurgence back into understanding the value of your brand, and there's a resurgence back towards the importance of community.” - Click Here to Tweet This[49:17] Preparing for Growth

[51:40] The Right Way Towards Business Growth
    • Learning how to achieve business growth starts with your foundations. Know your margins and your product inside and out.
    • For example, do you know what it will cost to acquire a customer?
    • Next, optimize processes like your working capital cycle, cash flow, and cash reserves.
    • Then, look for strategic partnerships.

Episode Highlights[02:46] What Dr. Trevor Blattner Does
    • Dr. Trevor is an endodontist who started his business practice from scratch. This is where he realized the importance and impact of good leadership.
    • He also does business coaching to help others with their personal and business growth.
    • Dr. Trevor deals with his ADHD by being active and having many interests.

[06:16] Applying Good Leadership at Home
    • Dr. Trevor is a father to three daughters.
    • He found that leadership at home is different from leading a business. There needs to be a different style of leadership to face more difficult challenges.
    • Dr. Trevor wanted to learn from experts about common leadership behaviors. That is how his book came to be.
    • As a researcher, all his information is backed by science.
    • Dr. Trevor admits that applying the practices in his book isn’t easy in daily life. However, knowing the ideal is the first step.

[09:12] “Taking [leadership behaviors] and using them every single day, actively, isn't necessarily an easy thing. It's an ideal we set up for ourselves and each of us individually have our own cross to bear in terms of the things that we struggle with, and the areas where we're not as strong.” - Click Here to Tweet This[10:54] The Meaning of Character, Morality, and Truth
    • Character, Morality, and Truth are the words in Dr. Trevor’s mission statement. These values factor into his ideal world.
    • Dr. Trevor believes that there is one truth that is given by God. It teaches us how to live our lives.
    • He strives to achieve these ideals despite his failings. He envisions a better world for the people he loves.

    [13:21] Measuring the Ideals
    • These three ideals are measured subjectively.
    • Look at a person’s authenticity to measure truth. As you open yourself up to new ideas and knowledge, be curious and find proof about a stance.
    • For character and morality, their measurements are much more relative. In a way, we recognize them when we see them.

[15:54] The Current State of Leadership
    • Dr. Trevor thinks for quite some time our most visible leaders have also been lacking in character.
    • Since we use them as a barometer for what is acceptable, we have a real problem on our hands.
    • He sees the exact opposite in his community, where leaders of small businesses prioritize the people: their employees and families.
    • Our society has created a situation where our top leaders do not align with our long-term ideals.

    [19:51] The Evolution of Leadership
    • Rick, Dr. Trevor’s father, started his own business from the ground up. He maintained a tough, authoritarian approach to leadership.
    • Rick’s style of leadership can be traced back to his father, who gave off an intense, alpha stance.
    • It’s only recently that the concept of servant leadership became popular. Many people responded well to the idea of the person at the top being the servant of the organization.
    • Shepherd leadership is an idea where leaders pave the way forward while protecting and serving their people.
    • For Dr. Trevor, the role of a leader has evolved into someone who protects and mentors their team.

[24:00] “[A shepherd is] someone that charts the course, sort of creates the path forward, and also protects... I think the role of a leader in this day and age is to be protective and be a mentor to those people on their team as far as possible.” - Click Here to Tweet This[25:54] Shepherd Leadership
    • Shepherd leadership is not a commonly used term. It’s also a bit misunderstood.
    • Shepherds, like David from the Bible, are defenders. They are strong and willing to fight for their flock.
    • Dr. Trevor used this term because it’s the right fit for those he wants to reach.

[28:50] On Redefining the Top 1%
    • When thinking about the Top 1%, most people imagine those with massive wealth.
    • Dr. Trevor wants to spin this concept in a different direction.
    • He believes we need to reach for the Top 1% performance bar in our lives and reach the best of our God-given abilities and talents.
    • Once you establish and secure yourself, you are better equipped to reach out to those in need.
    • The book doesn’t focus on money. Instead, it centers on learning and incorporating the behaviors of the top leaders to maximize your potential.

[30:20] “I think we can all understand that if we're unable to take care of ourselves, financially and otherwise, we really aren't equipped to do things for others in a powerful way.” - Click Here to Tweet This[33:08] Faith, Money, and Success
    • Dr. Trevor is an Enneagram 3, a successful achiever. So, he makes sure that financial achievement isn’t his top priority.
    • The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. If we make money our top priority, we can breed a lot of evil.
    • Dr. Trevor believes that money is a resource. As such, you can either use it either positively or negatively.

    [36:48] Battling Anxiety and Self-Doubt
    • Dr. Trevor recognizes that we are all going through unique challenges.
    • He himself has been diagnosed with generalized anxiety and ADHD. He acknowledges that these conditions have contributed to many of his struggles.
    • ADHD in adults manifests through unhealthy coping mechanisms, difficulty finishing projects, and poor social interaction.
    • Our struggles don’t have to define us. Instead, we need to face them and do what we need to overcome them.
    • We shouldn’t be embarrassed about the crosses we need to bear. These situations are learning experiences.

[40:14] “Don't be embarrassed or ashamed by [your struggles] because it's not a coincidence that that's the particular cross that you have to bear in your life. There's some sort of reason and some learning experience from it.” - Click Here to Tweet This[41:10] In Pursuit of Success
    • For most of his life, Dr. Trevor has always been chasing after achievements and rewards to fill a void.
    • He later realized that something wasn’t right. He had to reevaluate how he lived.
    • Many of what Dr. Trevor wrote in his book was based on self-reflection. It served as a guide for both himself and his readers.
    • Authors learn much in the process of writing. Dr. Trevor reckons that many of them do this to write to themselves.

[45:22] “I'd be curious to know, in the deepest part of [an author’s] heart, how many of those were writing to themselves? In many ways, like, you're famous, and you're successful, and you know these concepts, and you're teaching them, but how much of this is also for you?” - Click Here to Tweet This[48:47] Good Leadership Behaviors
    • Embrace radical responsibility. Good leadership means that you need to accept every outcome that happens to your team.
    • You may not have created the situation, but you’re responsible for how to move forward from it.
    • And so, good leadership requires you to have a mindset that embraces responsibility.
    • Be still and know. Good leadership is knowing that there is a bigger picture.
    • A leader should have a spiritual side that recognizes a greater power and the limits of humanity.

[52:18] Who Redefining the Top 1% is For
    • Anybody that aspires to be in a position to lead or influence others can learn from the book.
    • There are many exercises that can help readers apply their learnings.
    • The book’s content is based on scientific evidence and literature.

    [56:26] Seek, Go, or Create?
    • Dr. Trevor currently resonates most with “seek.”
    • Our big mission is to grow the Kingdom of God by honoring Him and treating others well.
    • So, Dr. Trevor is currently seeking the next move for his personal and professional life based on God’s calling.

Episode Highlights[04:08] What Cherlyn Does and What Leadership Means to Her
    • She helps leaders and entrepreneurs experience and lead from God’s voice, so they can show up for those they are called to serve.
    • For Cherlyn, leaders help other people achieve their best. They recognize what’s hampering others from moving forward.

[06:05] The Pivotal Moment in Cherlyn’s Journey
    • A phone call and the words: ‘I’m sorry, your position has been eliminated’ changed Cherlyn’s life forever.
    • She had always known in her mind that God was her provider. When she lost her income, she had to let God show her that.
    • Even before she got laid off, she was unhappy. She heard a voice inside her to go look for herself elsewhere.
    • However, she was sure that it was not God’s voice speaking to her then.

[12:10] Learning to Listen to God’s Voice
    • Just like how we know if we ran a red light, we know when we are being disobedient to God.
    • In these situations, we have to trust God to shine a light on our paths and correct our disobedience.
    • One person in the Bible who always listened to God’s voice was David. Even though he was mighty, he always asked the Lord’s guidance on when to engage with his enemies.
    • Whenever we ask for guidance, He may say yes, no, or nothing at all. When we don’t receive a response, we simply have to wait until we hear God’s voice.
    • When Cherlyn does not hear God’s voice, she continues to walk in peace towards where He led her before until He tells her to stop.

    [15:30] Cherlyn’s Christian Background
    • Cherlyn grew up in a Christian household. This environment served as the foundation for her faith in God.
    • However, that did not mean that she led a life without difficulties. Like what Paul tells us in his Epistles, we are to expect trials.
    • But when we look to God in times of tribulation, we can find His goodness and peace.
    • Even though Cherlyn does not like going through trials, these strengthened and sharpened her. They also solidified her faith.
    • As a teenager, the relationships she had with her peers in their church were unhealthy. Luckily, she was able to find a different church youth group with whom she could bond.

    [21:14] Cherlyn’s Realizations
    • The word of God is our weapon. While their church taught her to study the scriptures, she didn’t understand how to use it as her sword of truth back then.
    • However, her denomination gave her building blocks and allowed her to have a good relationship with the Holy Spirit, who is the best teacher there is.
    • God’s voice led her to the tools she needed to equip herself in the world.
    • Looking back, Cherlyn now sees how God used the good, bad, and ugly in her life to transform her.

[24:16] “Our past is not meant to be punishment. Our past is meant to point us to what God wants to teach us so that we can make changes and do things the way He wants us to do them moving forward.” - Click Here to Tweet This[29:08] God’s Providence
    • Cherlyn had to learn how to let go of something when God asks because He has something greater planned.
    • We, as 21st century Christians, have a distorted view of what blessings look like from God.
    • We have to trust that everything God provides is good, and if there’s something that does not come from Him, we need to question it.

    [34:01] Learning to Trust God
    • Independence is fear of letting God take charge.
    • In the areas where God had not given her stewardship, Cherlyn was bringing chaos.
    • Cherlyn had to learn that true independence comes from tapping into God, her source.

[35:31] “What the Lord has shown me is that my independence was fear, fear of what it could look like to be fully dependent on God.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • He may send us a storm to see if our foundation is built on our solid faith. That’s what happened to Cherlyn when she lost her job.

[40:14] “When the storm comes, you can tell what the house is built on... There's still going to be thunder and lightning. But it's built on a solid foundation. And I think at the end of the day, God lets that stuff happen to say, ‘Okay, let's test this foundation here.’” - Click Here to Tweet This[41:15] Parenting as a Christian
    • Cherlyn fights her own battles and passes these victories down to her children as their inheritance.
    • However, she believes in the value of testing, because this process brings forth perseverance and character.
    • Her prayer is for God to put her children in the refiner’s fire in her house, so that she may walk alongside in their journey.
    • When we are looking for a breakthrough, our best weapon is to find someone who's overcome it. However, most of us don’t like being vulnerable.

[43:45] “When we are looking for [a] breakthrough, our best weapon is to find someone who's overcome it.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Cherlyn’s family did not go through challenges by themselves. God sent specific people to help them through their difficulties.

    [46:25] On Writing Her Book
    • According to Cherlyn, writing her book is an act of obedience.
    • Not everybody can hire a coach to help them through life’s difficulties. She wrote about how God helped her and how He can do it for others as well.
    • At first, Cherlyn’s people-pleasing self feared baring parts of her life she had never even told her family and friends.
    • However, the Lord redefined this trait of hers. God’s voice made her realize that she only needed to perform for an audience of one.

    [51:16] Takeaways from Cherlyn’s Book
    • All His sheep can hear God's voice. We just need to tune in our hearts to listen to the Lord.
    • Our identity does not come from what we do or who we think we are. It comes from who the Father says we are.

[01:02:27] “When you know who God says you are, nobody else’s opinion can change it because it doesn’t matter.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • If you don’t know who you are, open the Word of God and let Him speak to you.
    • Tune in to the full episode to learn how to recognize God’s voice and how He speaks with you!

    [01:06:26] Seek, Go, or Create?
    • For Cherlyn, the word that resonates most with her has to be seek.
    • If she’s not seeking God’s voice first, she’s doing things for the wrong reasons.

    Episode Highlights

    [02:51] An Overview of Ken

    • Ken has been in the financial industry for more than ten years.
    • He immerses himself in two businesses: real estate and his mental meditation course.
    • Through his course, he helps people gain the success they want through mental clarity.

    [04:51] Ken’s Epiphany Moment

    • Ken’s business was successful, and everything was unraveling according to plan.
    • He felt like his life reached a plateau.
    • As he was sitting on the patio during a vacation at the Cayman Islands, a feeling of calmness and clarity engulfed Ken.
    • Upon returning to his daily routine, he wanted to experience that freedom and vulnerability he sensed before.
    • He found this mental clarity to be a benefit of meditation.

[07:42] Who Ken Was Before Finding Stillness
    • Ken’s life had a lot of stress and anxiety.

[11:33] “Because I was so stressed about trying to control everything, it became this vicious cycle of stressing about things you're worrying about.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • He was a high achiever who always wanted to have control of everything without any surprises. Because he was in control of everything, he felt he was doing great in life.
    • He used to put up a lot of barriers to keep people at a distance. He only presented the happy and successful version of himself to others.
    • Now, Ken is more comfortable because he goes with the flow and doesn’t stress about it.

    [18:10] Getting Into Business
    • Ken’s trajectory was pretty straightforward. Growing up, he saw how comfortable his uncle, a financial advisor, was. So, that’s what he wanted to become.
    • His uncle set up his path towards inheriting his practice.
    • His family had a construction business. Being closer to it growing up, he saw all of its ups and downs. Whereas, he never really saw the bad side of his uncle’s venture.
    • Additionally, he is naturally inclined towards numbers and money so it made sense to go after finance.

[20:18] The Origin of Platinum Wealth Group
    • His family had a falling out during his graduate school days. Due to the family separation, his uncle never talked to him again.
    • Ken was at a crossroads where he could choose to continue his set financial path without the help of his uncle, or do something else. He chose the latter.
    • With hard work, Ken moved up the ranks of a corporation. There, he worked in various fields, including retirement plans, 401k’s, and IRAs.
    • One of his colleagues thought that they were doing too much. So, they went out on their own and niched down on 1031 exchanges.
    • The 1031 exchange is a mechanism to sell real estate, purchase another piece of real estate, and defer the tax. Tune in to the full episode to hear more about this topic!

[28:21] Dealing with the Falling Out Aftermath
    • Ken had no control over his family’s separation and the consequences that came after.
    • While he planned his goals for the next five to ten years, these fell through when his family’s situation happened.
    • He felt it was a waste if he didn’t continue because he already got the necessary degrees and the passion for finance.

[29:42] Niching Down to 1031 Exchange
    • Ken always focused on the alternatives, including 1031 exchanges. He and his partner believed it could help people, so they chose to niche down in this field.
    • Currently, Congress is discussing limiting the gain you could defer to half a million dollars. This move can hurt the industry in general.
    • Since this is out of Ken’s control, all he can do now is to ask people to write to their elected officials and show their support for the 1031 exchange.

    [34:32] Sailing and Freedom
    • Ken loves boats and being on the water.
    • Something about the vast expansiveness of the ocean gives him freedom. You feel at peace by getting more in tune with nature and the flow of the water.
    • When Ken was writing his book, he compared it to learning how to sail—knowing where you want to go but relinquishing control to the wind and depending on it to move.
    • It fits together with his book’s idea: understanding what you want and getting there.
    • Ken made all his major shifts—starting his practice, learning how to sail, and writing a book—around the same time.

    [42:28] The Writing Process
    • Ken wrote the book for himself and not for the audience. It was more to prove that he can do it.
    • He spent six months riding the rhythm and writing every day. But Ken’s work picked up, and he lost focus in writing.
    • Eventually, he came back to incorporating writing into his daily routine but used sailing to keep a balance.
    • When he was still working on the book, his usual routine involved: meditating, journaling, and writing.

[46:46] What He Learned from Writing
    • Ken didn’t identify himself as a writer before writing his book.
    • He then realized that when he spent time doing it, he could write and be a natural at it.
    • Ken teaches what he does. His book is all about what his vision is, so it asks people what their vision is and what they can do to arrive at that vision financially.

    [49:55] Stillness
    • Ken invests in increasing his self-awareness and doing self-reflection.

[49:57] “I think people could stay busy but not have the self-awareness to understand, right? They didn't have clarity because there’s so many domains all the time that you’re just too busy to even see.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • He looks back on his five-day silence retreat and the benefit of meditation in gaining mental clarity.
    • Many people have yet to experience this benefit of meditation since it can be difficult to sit with yourself.

    [54:11] About Stillness to Success
    • Knowing what your values, vision for the future, and happiness look like is the starting point for stillness to success.
    • Meditation is not just crazy poses but easing into a natural breathing rhythm. The benefit of meditation allows you to explore your future and define your version of success.
    • Ken is thinking of branching out from meditation to retreats since retreats can be a beneficial experience.
    • Stillness to Success teaches mantra-based meditation, where you repeat a mantra until you find your centering thought and slip into a state of having no thoughts at all.

[59:27] Slipping Into The Gap and the Benefit of Meditation

    • After developing your habits, you can find the gap in your everyday routine and enter a state of no thoughts.
    • You can allot 20 minutes of your day to experience this benefit of meditation. Once you see how clarity and stillness can benefit you, you will become hooked.

[01:00:08] “Most people have this misnomer that they can't find 20 minutes. I'm sure if it's really important to you, and you start to see the benefits, you can make the 20 minutes and you'll find a way to do it.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • During his first week of silence, Ken initially thought it would be impossible to let go of the demands of his life. But at one point, they all just went away.

[01:02:06] “These very epiphany moments of healing and just understanding, [it’s] like you come out a different person. And then you become like, ‘Oh, my God, this is an incredible thing. All those demands and things I think I need to do are just thoughts’.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Stillness accelerated Ken’s success in many ways. Many high achievers join him in the retreats, showing how unplugging can rejuvenate the mind.
    • Meditation allows Ken to become a happier, more compassionate, and more understanding person.

    [01:05:53] Seek, Go, or Create?

    • Ken is a bonafide seeker.
    • If you seek within, everything will come naturally to you.

[01:06:02] “When you seek yourself, everything else comes to you. Because how you show up and what you put out is what you get.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Knowing what it is you seek will give you the motivation to create.

  • A Mixtape About the Meaning of Life

We can think of life in terms of a game. You win some, you lose some. But winning is different for each of us. For some, it may look like amassing wealth. For others, it may be finding success in their careers. Whatever yours may be, the first thing we all need to do is think about the meaning of life so that we can turn our efforts into fulfilling our purpose.

In this solo episode, Tim talks about the people, shows, and books that have inspired him as of late. As he grows older, he finds that he has more questions rather than answers. He dives deep into these questions today, taking us into his mixtape about the meaning of life. He wraps up his reflections with a reminder to allow God to steer us into finding our true assignment and being in a state of peace.

If you’re on a quest to find meaning in life, then this episode is for you!

    3 Reasons to Listen:
    1. Ponder about the meaning of life through books, TV shows, and a board game.
    2. Understand why you should determine your assignment in life.
    3. Be inspired to be in a state of peace, rest, and Sabbath.

Episode Highlights [03:32] “One might think… that the more mature we get, the older we get, the more answers that we have. I am finding that I have more questions than answers.” - Click Here to Tweet This[04:27] The Game of Life
    • The Game of Life is a board game that was introduced in the 1960s by Reuben Klemer. Its goal is to accumulate the most money.
    • This game reflects what our society thought about the meaning of life.
    • In 2007, Hasbro released a new version of the game with slightly different thoughts about the meaning of life.
    • Besides earning money in the game, you can also earn points for virtuous deeds.
    • Just like the revamping of this game, we should challenge ourselves to keep redefining the meaning of success.

    [09:07] Ted Lasso
    • Ted Lasso, an Apple TV+ series, is about a football coach with a very positive outlook on life.
    • It’s a “feel good” show about the naive enjoyment of life, which also circles back to the discussion about the meaning of life.
    • The first season of the show was mostly light and quirky, and it showed the characters’ hurts and difficulties in the second season.

    [13:42] Book Recommendations
    • Tim recommends two powerful books by Greg McKeown: Essentialism and Effortless.
    • Essentialism makes you question what is essential in your life.
    • Tim resonates with this concept especially because he lives in an RV and travels a lot.
    • On the other hand, Effortless talks about the type of effort we put forth in our day-to-day lives.
    • These efforts depend on how we define success. If you equate success with wealth, then you’d spend the most effort on generating money.

    [17:33] Exciting Upcoming Episodes
    • In his conversation with Joel Comm, Tim noticed that individuals in his age bracket tend to ponder more about the meaning of life.
    • For Joel, life should be fun. That got Tim thinking about whether or not he’s living a life filled with joy.
    • Meanwhile, in his interview with Simon Severino, they talked about growth.
    • One thing that Tim noticed is even though he advocates for growth and profit, he also has an easygoing lifestyle and gets plenty of rest.

[21:24] “I used to be one of these guys that were pretty proud of the fact that I slept very little. I thought it was a badge of honor….You know what, it feels really good to be rested. It feels really good to just have the mind feel rested, the body feel rested.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • This chat with Simon speaks a lot about the importance of having a good rhythm and pace in life. Listen to the full episode to hear more about Tim’s exciting interviews!

    [24:24] The Chosen
    • The Chosen is a show about the people that Jesus chose to follow him early in his ministry.
    • Tim admits that he didn’t want to watch this show because he gets disappointed with the quality of Christian television, but he tried to watch with an open mind.
    • For Tim, the show relays the nature of Jesus Christ during the beginning of his ministry, and it did a great job at storytelling.
    • Watching the show made him realize that we are His chosen, and He came for us.
    • Tim reminds us not to construe the show as 100% Biblical and Scriptural truth.

    [29:41] Pondering Spiritual Arguments
    • Some people believe that God is sovereign; He is moving us around like chess pieces.
    • However, others think that we do have free will.
    • Tim agrees with both ideas. There is an Invisible Hand of God steering and guiding us. But there are ways that we could veer off and go in different directions.

[31:01] “I believe that we are chosen. We are created for a specific assignment on this earth, specific assignments. And I believe our mission, our path, the way we need to go is to identify and find what that assignment is.” - Click Here to Tweet This[32:30] Notes About the Meaning of Life
    • Life can take us to different paths. There is no one fixed direction.

[32:30] “Life veers and goes in a lot of different directions. It's not an ABCD; there's a lot of paths.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • The Game of Life and the shows Ted Lasso and The Chosen can be compared to life as we know it.
    • There are many things in life we cannot control. So, there is power in surrendering our lives to Him.

[34:34] Moving Towards Peace, Rest, and Sabbath
    • Getting closer to the assignment we were created for leads to less stress and anxiety.
    • Get close to your Creator so you can understand what that assignment is.

[37:39] "The way most of us live in our first-world culture, it's killing us. Because we're all under stress. We're trying to do something. We're trying to be successful in the way that others think we should be, instead of the assignment that we should have.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Start thinking about the meaning of life and your purpose now, so you won’t have to feel anxious about it.
    • When you’re not under anxiety or stress, the more attractive, healthy, creative, focused, and grateful you become.

Episode Highlights [02:30] What Tim Does
    • Tim coaches people to master engaging conversations.
    • Tim was also a pastor for several years.
    • Right now he focuses on helping people grow and improve themselves.

    [03:29] Mastering Engaging Conversation
    • We have so many ways to communicate, and yet somehow, it’s something not many of us are good at.
    • To improve the culture within an organization, you have to improve the relationships involved.
    • Meanwhile, to improve relationships, conversations have to be better.
    • Thus, Tim teaches coaches, professionals, and clients to make conversations that engage people.

    [05:04] Are We Good Communicators?
    • In general, Tim says that we are bad at communicating.
    • Sometimes, people come into conversations with their own agenda; we don’t always listen very well.
    • We’re not really taught how to communicate properly.

     [07:57] Challenges to Communicating Well
    • One of the biggest challenges is the mindset.
    • We have to let go of the belief that we know everything or are more competent than those we communicate with.
    • To have better conversations, a paradigm shift must happen. We should learn how to be a good listener.
    • Another challenge is learning how to ask good questions to keep a conversation engaging.
    • Learning how to be a good listener helps you formulate good questions.

    [10:07] Preparing For a Conversation
    • In reality, we don’t take time to prepare before having conversations.
    • An engaging conversation involves making the other party feel valued and listened to.
    • Part of learning how to be a good listener is understanding that not listening is an act of war.

[10:59] “Not listening is an act of war. So think about that one, and then think what's going on in our culture, think what's going on in most of the relationships and conversations that we have.” - Click Here to Tweet This[11:59] Having Engaging Conversations as a Christian
    • Jesus is a good example for those who want to learn how to be a good listener.
    • Tim discovered that Jesus always asked questions instead of giving advice to the people that approached him.
    • Tim reveals that Jesus asks at least a hundred questions in the Gospels.

[16:16] What We Need to Get Better At
    • Tim says we need to learn how to be a good listener.
    • We should also learn to ask open-ended questions better. This skill would be immensely helpful to leaders.
    • Too often, we focus on our own advice. We come into a lot of conversations thinking of what we already know.

[19:53] “I think we're really bad at not listening to the other person. And then that mindset that just thinks, ‘You know what, I've got their answer. I know what they should do. And if they just do what I tell them, everything's gonna be good.’” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Sometimes our minds also default to problem-solving.
    • But instead, we should take time to pause and learn how to be a good listener. This process includes asking apt questions.

    [21:43] Humility
    • Using the coaching approach in leadership is all about learning to be a servant.
    • Coaching was a humbling experience for Tim. Throughout his life, Tim was taught that being a leader means you need to be an expert.
    • But he later realized through his coaching experience that this was not the case. As a coach, you need to learn how to be a good listener.
    • Tim’s job is to guide the client by listening to them and to the Holy Spirit. And humility is in the heart of this.

[25:12] “My job is to listen to you well, and to listen to the Holy Spirit well, so that I can help you hear what He's saying to you. Because at the end of the day, I got nothing for you. Right? My job is to, in a sense, kind of hand you off to the Holy Spirit.” - Click Here to Tweet This[28:25] Coach, Client, Holy Spirit
    • Tim is a member of the Christian Coaches Network International.
    • Secular coaching includes only the coach and the client. It holds the belief that the client has everything in them they need to solve their problems.
    • Although Tim believes that people have the potential to better themselves, they don’t have everything in them to do so. Hence, Christian coaching involves the Holy Spirit.

    [31:52] Merging Faith and Business
    • Tim makes it clear to his individual clients that he is a follower of Christ and his coaching approach is rooted in this.
    • While this is his lens on life, he does not force it on anyone.
    • In the business setting, Tim listens and also comes into the experience as a follower of Christ.
    • Tim believes that business is ministry and this space is his mission.

[35:17] Knowing that You’re Not in Charge
    • The Scripture teaches us that God is Emmanuel - “He is with us”.
    • When Tim is coaching, he has a continual conversation with God. It’s a two-way conversation where he talks and listens to God.
    • He acts as a conduit between the client and God. Tim does not take credit for what he brings forth to his clients.

    [40:16] Coaching as Modern-Day Discipleship
    • Coaching is a good operating system for making disciples of people.
    • We need to learn how to be a good listener, ask better questions, and allow ourselves to be where God wants us to go.
    • Meet people where they are not where you think they should be.

[41:16] “If we knew how to listen better, and ask better questions, and meet people where they are not where we think they should be, and help them to go where God wants them to go... then I think that that would be a really great way to make disciples.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Tune in to the full episode to hear Tim share a story of a pastor who learned how to be a good listener.

[46:06] Learning How to Be a Good Listener and Asking Good Questions
    • Tim has learned through the years of coaching that he does not have all the solutions for people. This belief has taken a lot of weight off his shoulders.
    • He believes a lot of pastors should be taught how to be a good listener and how to ask good questions.
    • This process is also an effective way to develop good leaders.

    [50:41] Coaching
    • The concept of “coach” came from a little town in Hungary called Koch in 1585.
    • It emerged from the idea of a carriage meeting people where they were and deliver them to where they wanted to go.
    • In the 1900s, it started to be associated more with athletic coaching.
    • For Tim, coaching helps people change without telling them what to do.

[52:16] “Coaching helps people to change without telling them what to do.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • As a leader, you may have to give people direction. But sometimes you just have to listen, ask good questions, engage, and empower people.

[52:33] “You could lead all the way across the spectrum where there are times where you need to give direction, and that's fine. But there are times when you need to empower people, and you need to learn how to ask good questions, and listen, and get them engaged.” - Click Here to Tweet This[54:12] Challenges to Tim’s Calling
    • For Tim, an obstacle for coaches to help people reach their potential is the fast-paced lifestyle. People are in a hurry most of the time.
    • It’s not very often that we see leaders who truly listen. People don’t always have a reference of what a good leader is.
    • People need to experience being heard and listened to.

[58:53] What Discourages and Encourages Tim
    • A discouraging thing for Tim is CEOs who don’t value the approach he is championing.
    • On the other hand, it’s encouraging for Tim to see other leaders who value and invest in his coaching approach.
    • After all, Tim’s coaching is a way of teaching people how to be with other people.
    • Tim invites key decision-makers of organizations to reach out to him as he believes that what he has to offer could truly help them.

    [01:03:54] Seek, Go, or Create
    • As a business owner for the past 11 years, ‘Create’ currently resonates the most with Tim.
    • He believes that God is the creator and leaders are co-creators.

Episode Highlights [02:15] What Allan Does
    • Allan is passionate about growing and scaling companies. He believes that he was born to do this.
    • Allan's family barely made ends meet, and he slept on the floor with his brothers for the first six years of his life.
    • He noticed how different his entrepreneurial spirit is from his uncles and father.

[06:32] “My entrepreneurial spirit is: I can do so much. And I can give people a great place to work, where they’re proud of what they do, where they enjoy their labor, and they can provide well for their families.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Allan's upbringing instilled in him a sense of purpose. He believes that there's a lot that we can obtain in life.

    [07:35] Allan’s Mindset Around Money
    • Allan's childhood played a central role in many aspects of his life.
    • Coming from a small town, Allan recalls how motivated he was to break free and explore the world.
    • Instead of thinking about how much money he can make, he thinks about his next step or level of progression.

[11:36] What Allan Would Tell His 18-Year-Old Self
    • Allan would tell himself that he is capable of so much more. There is infinite potential in so many areas of life.
    • Failing is going to happen, but it's going to be okay. So why not go for that big goal?

[14:06] Develop Strategic Planning in The Service Industry
    • Allan wanted to be an attorney when he was young.
    • Around 2006, his brother started selling pest control door-to-door.
    • They decided to start their own pest-control company after seeing its potential. But it did not work out for them.
    • Allan went back to law school and did a few years of commercial litigation while his brother stuck with pest control.
    • After a while, they decided to revisit their business venture and develop strategic planning for it.

[16:30] Being an Entrepreneur and Lawyer
    • Lawyers, especially litigators, are not typically entrepreneurs.
    • There is a significant disconnect between entrepreneurship and lawyers because lawyers only see things when they go bad.
    • Allan believes that sometimes, you have to be overly optimistic to develop strategic planning.
    • Allan had to find this blend between logical, linear thinking and a creative, ambitious, and optimistic personality.

[18:56] The Risk of Owning Businesses
    • Allan holds himself back from overanalyzing an opportunity.
    • Attorneys err on the side of caution because they are trained to do so in law school.
    • Allan's risk tolerance for investment is high. However, once he gets into a deal, he analyzes it to see where he should take care. Doing this allows him to plan strategically.
    • There’s value in playing both sides of a business.

    [26:55] Having an Arrogant Mindset
    • People have this mindset thinking nobody can do it as well as them; this is a bit arrogant.
    • Small business owners have such a hard time letting go of control.
    • As a business owner, you can’t do everything by yourself. You need to relinquish some control to develop strategic planning.

[29:39] “Even when they hire people, small business owners have a problem micromanaging because that person is just not good enough. If you treat somebody like they’re not good enough, they’re gonna go find another job.” - Click Here to Tweet This[32:00] Having a Business Partner
    • Going into business with a partner is a lot like marriage.
    • The match isn’t going to be perfect, so don’t think the other person is perfect.
    • Look for somebody motivated and willing to work on the partnership.

[32:02] “Just like marriage, I think that the difference has been two people that don’t think the match is perfect... But it’s two people that wake up every morning and they say, ‘Hey, it’s time to work on our partnership.’” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • When you have a family member as a partner, you have to put on different hats. Learn how to separate things—when to turn something on or off.

    [37:04] Tips for Service-Type Businesses
    • Scaling a service business is arduous work.
    • You have to go back to your “why” and vision. The service industry can be lucrative, but it can be a tough road as well.
    • Money is never that great of a motivator. People quit all the time because it’s not enough.
    • Service companies must provide great value if they want to keep their businesses running.

[41:44] The Importance of Good Customer Service
    • Being in the service industry appeals to a lot of people. You can have flexibility in your schedule and opportunities to interact with new people.
    • When you connect with customers on a personal level, they become customers for life.
    • You don’t need a rocket to be successful. Technicians just need to have the ability to talk and connect with people.

[44:25] Insights on Hiring and Retaining Employees
    • Make efforts to retain your employees. But get rid of bad employees because they’ll do more harm than having nobody.
    • Continue to develop the perks and benefits for your employees.
    • Constantly position the business for hiring to position yourself for growth.
    • People are what make companies grow and be successful.

[48:50] How to Develop a Culture That Retains People
    • What are you doing to get people excited about their job? Give people a chance to work for a common goal.

[49:27] “One of the greatest motivators in our lives is working together with other people to achieve a common goal.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • What is your company doing to help people progress? Help them earn more, develop skills, and learn more about their jobs.
    • Who are you surrounding your employees with? Hire people that don’t cause more frustration.

    [54:38] Knowing Your “Why”
    • Deep down, we have this innate desire to figure out a few things.

[55:27] “I think all of us, deep down — we have this innate desire to figure out a few things. There are a few questions that we want to figure out in this life, and I think one of those questions is ‘Why am I here? What am I doing on this earth?’” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Your passion should come naturally. If it doesn’t, that’s not your true “why.”
    • Conveying your company’s “why” is an ongoing process; you have to be passionate about it.
    • You can convey your company’s “why” with the way you treat people. You can also find your purpose by giving to your community.
    • If we don’t understand the purpose of our companies, scaling them up becomes difficult.

    [01:00:37] Allan’s Ideal Client
    • Allan’s ideal client is anybody who wants to get to the next level, scale up, and develop strategic planning.
    • He will tell you to quit your job and invest everything you have. He’s turned away a lot of people because of that.
    • This is a mindset that people need to adopt if they’re laser-focused on that growth.

    [01:03:14] Seek, Go, or Create?
    • Allan chooses to create because he was put on this earth to build relationships, people, finances, develop strategic planning, and more.
    • It’s easier to destroy than to create something.
    • We need people to create jobs that build people and motivate them.

    • He also tells people that he helps small and midsize businesses (SMBs) with advertising and marketing through SEO copywriting.
    • Moreover, he informs people that he is a giver. He helps people get better.

    [04:46] The Definition of SEO
    • SEO stands for search engine optimization. The goal is for websites to appear on the first page of Google results.
    • John’s job is to get into the mindset of what users have gone through to get to a keyword that fits their search query.
    • SEO helps businesses get in front of their ideal customers and be positioned as leaders.

    [07:47] About John’s Parents
    • John is forever grateful for everything his parents have sacrificed and accomplished to get their family from Vietnam to Canada.
    • The move provided him and his siblings with abundant opportunities and choices, as well as the opportunity to give back.
    • His parents pushed John and his siblings to stay grounded. They focused on education and togetherness.
    • John developed the core of his business from this connection his family taught him. Through connection, humans are better, stronger, and more powerful than any individual.

[11:02] “That’s the core of my business as well. We connect because we understand that together we’re way better, stronger, and we’re much more powerful than any individual.” - Click Here to Tweet This[11:15] His Parents’ Business in Vietnam
    • John’s dad had a parts business for bicycles. By liquidating this, they had enough assets to give to smugglers, so they could leave Vietnam.
    • His parents sacrificed everything they had to migrate. They believed there was more opportunity on the other side.

    [13:30] What Motivates John
    • In the early days, it was all about survival. John wanted to fit in and be socialized.
    • Before going to college, John had over 20 different jobs. Through these, he interacted with various people who made him more curious about life.
    • It's about grit and determination because nothing is given to you. So John is always moving around, trying new things, and engaging with people.

    [17:35] Organizations that Helped John
    • Growing up, John and his family relied on organizations like the Salvation Army and food banks.
    • His parents were desperately trying to get a job, but it’s hard when you don’t know the language or have the necessary skill.
    • If you stick it out, you are going to succeed in the future.
    • John emphasizes the necessity of hard work, education, and gratitude.

    [22:35] Facing Discrimination
    • It may not be obvious, but there is a lot of hate toward people who look different.
    • John just lets it go and always looks for ways to empower himself.
    • Always look at what you have and be grateful for it. Do not judge others because everyone’s going through different circumstances.

[23:58] “We’re all together on this Earth and planet, trying to just live, and survive, and have a happy, joyous lifespan, and have good ties together. Right? Why judge others? Everyone goes through different situations.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Broaden your horizons and explore things beyond your comfort zone.

    [26:59] Experiencing Life Outside Toronto
    • John grew up in a smaller town an hour away from Toronto. It had a large population, but it only had a dozen other Asians in it.
    • Growing up in a situation where food and survival are more important than what people say, the negativity doesn’t impact John.

[29:05] John’s Path to SEO Copywriting
    • John’s history included advertising sales for 10 years. He worked in traditional advertising and dabbled in online performance-based advertising.
    • In traditional advertising, he learned how to connect with business owners and provide value based on the brand and product he was selling.
    • With the advent of the information age, email and websites became more accessible. You had to adapt to change.
    • He got into this entrepreneurial business of SEO copywriting to fill the gap between the needs of the customers.

[32:51] The Yellow Pages and SEO Technology
    • Understanding the algorithm of Google is more challenging than the Yellow Pages.
    • The biggest ads get the first placement and alphabetical categories.
    • Back then, if you weren’t in the Yellow Pages, you’d miss out on a whole year of the best type of marketing.
    • Nowadays, if you’re not on Google, you’re missing out on visibility and other opportunities.

[36:16] The Importance of SEO for Businesses
    • Search engines make it easier for potential buyers and prospects who are actively seeking products or services you offer.
    • As a business owner, you need to show up to people seeking out your products and services.
    • SEO is about understanding what you offer.
    • Position yourself as a leader so that you can be served up more frequently with as many keywords applicable to you.

[40:52] Can We Trust Google with Our Information?
    • Your banks and email are tools that make your life easier. It makes sense that you’re giving up something like data.
    • These big companies' main revenue source is your data and analytics.
    • A lot of businesses forget how important it is to have this digital presence. Your website should be your number one digital asset today.

    • Google is allowing you to be more visible and more prominent. You just have to understand what they’re looking for.
    • Tune in to the full episode to hear John’s analogy for SEO and real estate!

[45:33] Common Mistakes and Bad Practices
    • You pay for what you get in life, not just in business.
    • There is no guarantee of success in any business. Even the largest companies like Facebook and Google do not guarantee results.
    • John’s business analyzes everything from competitors to Google’s guidelines to help their clients overtake their competition the right way.
    • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Do not get duped.
    • Always do your vetting. Look at the gaps in information with any deals.

    [49:16] Basic Understanding of Algorithms

    • First, look at user behavior.
    • By the time your consumers check out your website, they know everything about you. They have done their research.
    • What business owners don’t understand is that SEO is behind the scenes of what goes on.
    • SEO copywriting is all about positioning yourself as a leader in the eyes of Google and the users.
    • It is about generating more opportunities, lifting traffic, and finding gaps in how people can find you.

    [53:28] When to Expect Results
    • Know your scope. It all depends on perspective and where you’re at.
    • Ask yourself what you want to be known for in your industry.
    • Understand your customers and focus on creating content, so you can position yourself as a thought leader for your ideal customers.
    • Listen to the full episode to hear more advice from John!

[56:15] The Content You Need to Post
    • A proper website is the biggest asset piece digitally. It's the core foundation of a business.
    • Everything on your website should speak to the type of clients you want to attract. Answer their problems with a solution you can deliver.

[57:00] “Everything in your website should speak to the type of clients that you want to attract, and answer their problems with a solution that you can deliver.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • Ask yourself, “Who are my 10 best customers in the lifetime of my business?” Then, go out there and get to know them.
    • Afterward, amplify your presence on social media, send links, attend webinars, and be frequent. Google only wants businesses that are leaders in their space.
    • Understand that this process takes time.

    [59:40] The Speed Factor
    • Users don't want a site that takes three seconds or longer to load.
    • Building on themes and using many plugins slows down the site.
    • A custom website is ideal. But you have to pay for that better user experience.

[01:01:40] How to Monitor How Your Business is Doing
    • It all depends on where you’re at, how frequent your competitors are, and how much your customers want. Furnish your content piece.
    • The relationship you build with people is what you need to amplify. Do good work for people, and let them amplify it.

[01:05:21] John’s Ideal Client and How to Engage
    • John’s ideal client is someone that understands how to run a business. He also likes dealing with service-based SMBs struggling with the digital landscape and SEO.
    • The typical engagement starts with taking a look at your website and what Local SEO Search Inc. can do. They audit your website, then build a roadmap for you.
    • John nurtures long-term relationships with his clients.

[01:10:44] What Do Successful Businesses Do?
    • Good leaders know they can't do anything by themselves. They build strong relationships of trust.

[01:10:59] “What I found is that leaders, true leaders, entrepreneurs, people, understand how to live fulfillment with happiness and joy. They’re very decisive. They understand that they can’t do everything themselves.” - Click Here to Tweet This
    • John’s priority is working with honest people that make a difference and give to the community.
    • SMBs were hit the hardest in the pandemic. They're not funded by lobbyists, yet they show up every day and work to survive. John wants to support these people.

    [01:14:38] Seek, Go, or Create?
    • John has always been a ‘Go’ kind of person. Success or failure, at least you’re taking action.
    • He might not always be successful, but it's important that he gives it his all. By going, he doesn’t live with regret.
