About Selfamusic Podcast

What if you stopped trying to figure out how you’re feeling and just pressed play? 🎧
Welcome to Selfamusic, a mental health podcast where music gets to do some of the talking.
We explore the songs that make us cry, dance, remember, rage, heal, laugh, or stare dramatically out a car window like we’re starring in our own music video. Sometimes there’s a deeper conversation hiding underneath a song. Sometimes there isn’t. And that’s okay.
I’m not here to tell you what a song means or what you’re supposed to take from it. I’m here to give you something to listen to, something to think about, and maybe a question or two to carry with you.
*A little note for returning listeners: Selfamusic has evolved over the years. The earlier seasons are more personal and often document me working through my own experiences in real time.
Season 5 takes a slightly different approach, less teacher, more guide; less “here’s what this means,” more “what does this mean to you?”
Because your experience with a song belongs to you. 🎶
I’m Rachael. This is Selfamusic.
*SEASON 5 IS COMING IN SEPTEMBER!*
Yes, you read that correctly. I have apparently decided to resurrect this podcast after disappearing into the void for a while. 🤷♀️
While you’re waiting for Season 5 to make its grand return, go wander through the previous seasons. Some are more emotional, some are more personal, and some are basically me figuring things out in public. which, honestly, feels very on-brand for me.
New to Selfamusic?
Start with episode:
“The Selfamusic Experiment: How a Song Became My Therapist (Sort Of). “
It’s the origin story of this slightly weird idea and explains how I discovered that sometimes a song can help us get to feelings we can’t quite reach on our own.
So hit follow, poke around the archives, find an episode that catches your attention, and come hang out with me again in September.
The headphones are coming back. 🎧
