The modern 'selfie' has established itself as the latest form of self-expression. Is it a harmless fad or a dangerous sign of modern society's growing narcissism? We are living in a “selfie” culture of self-centered, self-promotion, and self-glorification. We want to know ourselves; be ourselves; we want to snap ourselves.  Authenticity and self-awareness are worthy goals and even biblically encouraged. But often without warning or intention, this drive to know ourselves becomes all-consuming. It’s near impossible to not be affected by the age of self in which we currently live, It’s the cultural air we’re breathing. Selfie Culture may be new, but Self-Obsession Is not.  

Our proclivity of being self-absorbed has been around since the garden.  Those who would seek these things are setting themselves up as the latest image. This fits in perfectly with the American idol of selfie culture, could not be more contrary to the Christian worldview - where self-fades into the background of the King of Kings and submits to the identity of Christ.
