In the summer of 1999, two young women were stolen from their small town in Alabama—two lives cut tragically short, leaving behind nothing but questions.

J.B. Beasley, just 17 years old, was celebrating her birthday when she and her best friend, Tracie Hawlett, disappeared without a trace. Hours later, their bodies were found—brutally murdered and left in the trunk of their car, parked on a quiet road in Ozark. The scene was gruesome. On the morning of February 24, 2023, calls to 911 from the Banfield family home set off a chain of events that would unravel a dark and twisted tale of betrayal, love, and murder. When police arrived, they found Christine Banfield, a mother and wife, barely alive with multiple stab wounds to her body. Nearby, a man named Joseph Ryan was found dead, shot in cold blood. The scene was puzzling—Christine’s husband, Brendan Banfield, the couple’s au pair, Juliana Magalhães, and their 4-year-old daughter were all present at the home, yet unharmed.

So, what had happened? According to the au pair, Juliana, she had left the house early that morning with the child to go to the zoo, only to return later after forgetting the packed lunches. What she found when she returned was a strange car she didn’t recognize, parked in the Bandfield home driveway. Concerned, she decided to call her employer, Brendan Banfield, and he rushed home to see what was going on.

Brendan and Julianna claimed they entered the home together and heard noises coming from upstairs. When they walked into the master bedroom, they discovered an unknown man - Joseph Ryan - with the naked, bloody body of Christine Banfield. In an attempt to save Christine, Joseph was shot and killed. He had been invited to the home by Christine for a trist after chatting on a fetish website and things got out of hand. But during the investigation, this story quickly fell apart. What started as a case of self-defence soon crumbled under the weight of suspicion, lies, and secrets that no one was prepared to uncover.

Cimarron Thomas was a beautiful, happy-go-lucky 12-year old little girl from West, Virginia. She was the kind of young lady who loved playing the violin, spending time with her family and chatting with her friends on social media apps, like Snapchat. However, in May of 2018, without warning, she ended her own life using her father’s legally owned handgun. Her little sister would find her body in her bedroom and tragically only 18 months later, her father, feeling guilty and devastated over the loss of his daughter, ended his own life too. What could be the cause of such a senseless tragedy, resulting in the loss of two lives? 

No one in the family would have those answers for years, until 2021, when police forces in Northern Ireland contacted them. During one of their investigations, officers had made a shocking discovery - chat logs between Cimarron and a man who they suspected of extreme sexual exploitation. The 12-year-old little girl was believed to be a victim of 26-year-old Alexander McCartney, who is alleged to have targetted as many as 3,500 children on 64 devices between 2013 and 2019. The heartbreaking reason she had taken her life would be found in chat logs on his computer, saved like some kind of sick trophy.

On December 19, 2018, 16-year-old Iyana Sawyer, a straight-A student from Jacksonville, Florida, was seen on surveillance footage leaving her high school early.
