Sermons from The Crossing Church (TCCJAX) Jacksonville, FL

The desires of the Spirit are opposed to the desires of the flesh. There is a conflict inside of us who follow Christ and it’s these conflicting desires that reveal God in this world and remind us how powerless we are.

As sons and daughters of God, we have been freed from our slavery to sin and this freedom is evidenced in love expressing itself in service.

Paul brings to light how tempted we are to follow the law and rules in order to feel better about ourselves and our relationship with God. In these verses, Paul will strike a fatal blow to the idea of a performance based salvation and show us the real purpose of the law.

Justification is given not earned and liberates us from sin so we can follow after Christ.

There is only one Gospel and yet we stain it and distort it to fit our agendas and our lives. Paul emphatically declares that the Gospel must be preserved and defended

The response to Jesus’ declaration that He is true food and true drink was not enthusiastic. Many stopped following him and even Peter soberly accepted the truth. Jesus’ reveals our motivations in life and describes for us what real food should do.

Jesus declares that the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is an unforgivable sin. This is not a specific sin that we have committed; rather it is a rejection of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is a life of unrepentance.

We have taken the words of Christ and shaped them into words that are comfortable and easy. But Jesus makes a hard declaration about what is required to follow him. The life of a disciple is not one of multiple purposes or mutli-tasking...the life of a disciple is to live out the will of God in our lives.
