While our modern culture celebrates Christmas with decorations, songs, and gifts, many Christians take time to remember the “reason for the season”. Beyond a superficial understanding that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday, we must dig deeper into the ultimate consequences of Christ’s birth.

Many associate meekness with weakness; the opposite is true. Meekness in God's kingdom could be described as power or strength under control. While our culture does not put a high value on meekness, it is a requirement in God's kingdom.

Those elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor. Those who persist in sin are to be disciplined fairly and publicly. Due to the awesome responsibility placed on them, elders are to be chosen carefully and without haste.

Once we understand our sinful condition and our utter lack of ability to change ourselves, the natural and appropriate response is spiritual mourning. Jesus promises that those who mourn will be comforted.
