For the majority of the world, the Christmas season is all about the exchange of gifts. If asked why this is the case, they will respond incredulously, “Because it’s Christmas!”

A vast number of people don’t realize the “Why?” of the exchanging of gifts.

However, for us as Christians, we know that it is much more than just a seasonal tradition. We exchange gifts with each other in honor of the greatest of gifts.

You know what I am talking about. I am talking about the reason for the season—the birth of the Savior—Jesus Christ the Lord.

Sadly, for many, for the vast majority, this greatest of gifts is not even acknowledged. Much of our culture and society is totally unaware of what they are missing.

Would you describe yourself as a thankful or ungrateful person?

If we are honest, most of us would probably say that we are somewhere in between!

How important is it to express thankfulness, whether to God or to each other?

As God’s people—His followers—praise and thanksgiving should be a regular part of our lives—an ongoing part of our lives. We are to praise God continually. We are never to take His blessings for granted.

Giving thanks unto the Lord is the most appropriate thing we can do!

"A Day Is Coming!"

Do you believe that we are close to or within the end times?

I would imagine that most of you would answer in the affirmative—you would say “Yes!”

How Can We Be Certain to Be Ready for the End?

First of all, as Christians we are to turn away from the world, from sin, and from our own control and trust in Christ completely. To be ready for His coming, we must completely belong to Christ—we must submit to Him in faith.

Secondly, we must not be fooled by the false teachers of this world. We must only listen to the clear teachers of God’s Word—not to those who muddy the clear message of the Gospel.

The next point is such an important one. It is to keep on witnessing. As the world continues to disintegrate, even more opportunities for witnessing will arise. As people feel that their lives and that of culture and society are out of control, they will be open to the truth. The opposition will be great, but we will need to continue witnessing in the face of incredible opposition.

We must also continue to be students of God’s Word—to continue to trust in its power. All that God has said will come to pass. Not one word will fall to the ground unfulfilled. Heaven and earth may pass away, but not God’s words. We are to hide His Word in our hearts so that we will not sin against Him. We are to stand on it as our only foundation.

We are also to look for His coming. We are to recognize the signs. We must be a people who know the end is surely coming, and we must rightly interpret our Lord’s signs so that we are ready when he comes.

What does God expect of me?

If you asked this of an employer during an interview, he/she might respond with the central idea of:

To effectively do your job!

The same is true for us as Christians. God says, “Do what I have called you to do!” However, there is one important difference. God also says that He will come alongside and give us the strength to effectively do what He has called us to do.

Let’s suppose you are asking the question:

What is my mission?

The answer is: Your mission is to live for Christ and to tell those you come into contact with about salvation.

While we are corporately responsible for the whole world, we each are individually responsible for those we interact with on a regular basis. If we all do this effectively, the world will be won for Jesus Christ.

"Court Is Now In Session!"

As human beings, we have a choice whether to submit and follow God.

In a very real way, there are no other options-no other choices—other than to serve or reject God.

If a person does not accept God’s offer in Christ, they continue to engage in false worship which is totally unacceptable to God.

Sadly, many people worship themselves and the world. The fact is, that no matter how sincere you might be and how much you guard your actions and thoughts, without Jesus Christ you are far from God.

The worship of so many people is insincere. Think of the number of people who own a Bible and claim to be religious, but whose behavior exposes them as hypocrites. Many attend worship services, but as soon as they walk out the church doors, they return to their sinful ways.

How can a God of love and mercy condemn a person to hell?

Although He is loving and merciful, He is also a just God. Just as He rewards those who follow Him, He judges those who fail to honor Him—those who fail to repent.

May you not be counted among that number!

"Civilization Without God!"

We may live in a technologically advanced society. Everything needed for a man or woman to survive is at our disposal. Life is good!

But without God, it will all come to nothing. Nothing we accumulate or accomplish in our own strength follows us into eternity.

Our options for after this life are limited. There are not 500 options—400 options—100 options or even 3 options.

There are only two.

Many in society believe there are no options at all which we must consider. We just live and we die—we go out of existence without any calling into account of our actions and beliefs while in this world.

The Epicurean epitaph of ancient Roman times: Non fui, fui, non sum, non curo (I was not; I was; I am not; I do not care) belief holds true for many today.

Cain sought to create a secular godless civilization and he did so for a period of time. But, it all came to nothing.

For many today, their entrance into eternity will include the lament—the horrified acknowledgment—that they chose unwisely.

May you not be counted among that number!

Prayer is God’s cure for worry and anxiety.

We all understand that when we pray we are talking to God, the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens and the earth.

We are talking to our Father in heaven.

When we commit to persistent persevering prayer it encourages our faith. It helps us to stand firm in a world that is falling apart at its seams. It is absolutely necessary that Christians persevere in prayer.

Persistent prayer is to be a characteristic of the Christian.

For Christians, praying should be like breathing. Just as breathing is the response of physical life to the presence of air, prayer should be the response of spiritual life to the presence of God.

As believers, we have a goal and a purpose.

How different that is from the world around us. We don’t live in fear. We don’t live with despair.

Why is that? Because as a son or daughter of God most high we know the following:

Philippians 3:20 NAS95 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

We are but temporary citizens of this world. We are just a passing through. In the meantime, we live with proper discipline and proper Christian living.

We have reason to rejoice. Why is that? Because a day is coming when Jesus Christ will return for His own.

"Straining Towards The Goal!"

The Apostle Paul demonstrated that a true believer of the Lord is to live a life just as disciplined as an Olympic athlete. He actually says that we are to keep our bodies under control just as much as the athlete.

The believer must run as diligently as a runner at the Olympic Games. The believer must put out the same kind of vigorous effort in order to reach the finish line.

Sadly, many believers do not have their eyes fixed on Jesus and are no longer running the race God has set before them.

How are you running the race? Is your reason for running to honor Christ and to enter heaven?

Maybe you haven’t really given much thought to how you’ve been running your Christian race. But it’s time you start.

You may have heard the adage . . .

There is no such thing as standing still in one’s Christian life. One is either moving forward or one is regressing - that is, moving backwards!

I once read that too many Christians operate like parked cars. The only way they move is if they are pushed. Others might keep their car washed and polished, but they fail to give proper attention to the engine that supplies the power.

What is my point?

My point is this:

A saved person is not to be sitting around doing nothing and letting the chips fall where they may. A saved person is to get up and go to work.
