In this episode, the Crone & Sage discuss the differences on The Path between Offerings and Sacrifices and when they might choose to use each one. During Our Practices segments where we talk about why and how we do what we do when we do things, we finish up the parts of a Ritual with the Closing Section. Finally, this episode’s Tip, Trick, or Witchy Hint talks about using the energy of the Times of Candlemas, which is where we feel they are the times of Creativity & Inspiration, to consider changes or trying out different things as part of one’s own practices of ritual and/or magick.

It’s Groundhog Day which is actually a tradition brought over by German immigrants from Europe in the 1800s which was adapted for local conditions in Pennsylvania. While he hasn’t seen his shadow predicting an early spring, this is just one of many that families brought with them to this young country, America, and have been passed down even if the reasons or the magick originally attached to them has been lost by time.

In this episode, the Crone and Sage discuss the concept of Sacred Space starting with the belief that everything is sacred and going on to why we would actually cast a circle when needed as part of a ritual. On Our Practices of The Craft section where we talk about why and how we do what we do when we do anything, we talk about about the Working section of a ritual, the meat and potatoes as it were. Finally, in this episodes Tip, Trick, or Witchy Hint, the Sage talks about decomposable magick and how we can use those little pieces of things as correspondences or reminders of things that will decompose or wear away or be used by nature because time (nature) will re-place energy you put into collecting them or using them for spell work.

Because where we live and practice, we have been inundated with snow and cold over the last week to ten days, it seemed like a great idea to give you an extra bonus Quick Spell to try if you want. It’s called the Freeze It Quick Spell so that’s wildly appropriate. We all have those things that would benefit from being “put on ice” for a bit either to allow for clearer thinking later or to take time to cool off if we find ourselves angry about something (more than we would like to give it credit for). So here’s a quick spell to freeze something to give you the time you need.

The Crone & Sage sit down and talk about how The Path Tradition has come to use the words Air & Smoke interchangeably when discussing that particular Element. For us, Smoke is a way to better connect with that Element because it is the only one you cannot experience “directly”. During Our Practices section where we talk about why we do and how we do what we do, we have moved on to a discussion about how we see ritual as being divided into 3 sections so we are talking about Ritual Openings. It’s a spell episode so here’s a Quick Spell for Mental Clarity. Finally, our Tip, Trick, or Witchy Hint is all about remembering to breathe.

This extra is designed to remind you about the power of words. In our last episode, Dave discussed how he was choosing a particular word to use as a focus for the upcoming year in his own practices. Elizabeth is using the word “Daily” as a reminder to do something each day (or as often is practical) as a reminder of her Witchiness. Words do have power and the spoken word seems to ground things into the mundane for us making it more likely that we will follow through on what we want to accomplish.

The Crone & Sage talk about how incense and rocks have always been an important part of Su’s and my practices as we crafted The Path Tradition and how every Witch needs to find their personal affinity with something and use it their own practice (and no it doesn’t have to be incense or rocks either). During our Practices segment which is all about doing what we do and the reasons for it and what we get out of it, we focused on those little things you can do to create a personally relevant daily practice to remind yourself that magick exists, you are managing things for yourself, and to remember that you are Witch. Finally, the Sage wishes all of us a blessed Winter Solstice and as part of our new year suggests that you find a word that best expresses what you want your personal practices to focus on over the next year. Happy New Year to all!

By the time you hear this, Winter Solstice will have just passed. It is not only the start of the season of Winter (however you experience the weather), but the start of the Light Half of the Year even if we can’t yet perceive the increase of daylight yet. On The Path, we celebrate our New Year at this time. It is a nod to our practical side because at least it is close to the change in the calendar. Take a moment to reflect how many different cultures have some sort of celebration at this time of year to celebrate the return of the Light and however you celebrate, may you have a joyous holiday.

Today the Crone & Sage discuss the barebones tools they may use for ritual on The Path then turn to discussing Circle Casting in our Practices Segment where we talk about why and how we do what we do (at least mostly). Finally, the Tip, Trick, or Witch Hint talks about ways you can manage the Conflicting Energies of the Holidays.

We have had our first noticeable snowfall as that reminder that Winter is coming and with it the Solstice. At this time of year our weather can be extremely variable. In fact, it has been cloudy with rain for about the last 10 days along with the snow and tomorrow we are expecting a record high of 60 degrees then maybe snow the day after that. With all these quick weather changes, it got the Crone thinking about some of the ways you can use the energy of the different types of Weather to enhance your magick.
