As a youth growing up in Mound City, Missouri, Pete Clegett took advantage of the abundance of water fowl hunting opportunities and became a regular in many of the goose pits. An early fascination with duck and goose calling led Pete to learn from veteran callers and develop a style of his own. His ability at deceiving ducks became legendary and sent him into calling competition. At the age of 17 Pete won the Missouri State Calling Championship. Pete continued to compete in contests and won numerous awards.

Pete’s love of the outdoors also included being a professional guide and hunting camp owner in Canada for 15 years.

Steve Nash grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and learned many outdoor skills related to hunting and fishing from his Uncle, Jack Brown. He has many fond memories calling in ducks and geese and the camaraderie that can only be found in a goose pit with family and close buddies. Steve fondly recalls the annual pheasant hunting trips to Viborg, South Dakota in the late fifties.

Steve Hornung grew up in Iowa Falls, Iowa and was exposed to pheasant hunting at an early age. Steve learned about bird hunting and dogs from his uncle. This experience created a life long love of bird hunting which continues this day. As a career educator Steve found himself living in rural areas of Iowa where pheasant hunting was very popular.

Larry Wray is a life long resident of Poweshiek County having grown up in Grinnell, Iowa. Early in his youth Larry’s family exposed him to hunting and fishing and were instrumental in his life long love of the outdoors. Steve Miller, 83 years old, grew up in Boone, Iowa and was first exposed to upland bird hunting in the early 1950’s tagging along with his best friend, Larry and Larry’s Dad. Pheasants were plentiful and getting a limit of birds was easily accomplished even without a dog. Like many youth beginning hunters, Steve purchased a .410 single shot shotgun which he used to bag his first rooster along the railroad tracks behind his family home.
