Attention! Native Peoples Action is calling all warriors to warrior up to protect our ways of life by attending our Leadership training this November.

Native Peoples Action (NPA) is so excited to partner with our friends at Advance Native Political Leadership to co-host their first leadership training in Alaska! The Leadership training is a full-day in-person training, located in Anchorage, Alaska during November 8-12, 2023.

This training is for Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian leaders who aspire to run for public office in the state of Alaska in the next 1 to 3 years and have a demonstrated connection to their communities and a commitment to uplifting tribal sovereignty and Native power. You'll gain the skills needed to run an effective campaign for office while leading with our shared Indigenous values. This training is provided at no cost to participants. Travel, accommodations, and meals will be paid for by Advance Native Political Leadership Action Fund.

Manh Choh Ore Truck Protest - Carlson Ctr Fairbanks, AK on Aug 26, 2023

This is a sound collage of why protesters were speaking out and waving signs at the Youth Safety event at the Carlson Center, which is owned by the borough. Police were called on protesters for the false claim of damage to the Manh Choh mine project ore truck. Some protestors had laid on the ground, near the tires and underneath the trucks as a visual protest of what will eventually happen if we allow these trucks on our publicly owned roads. Protesters focused on how proper legal steps like permitting were fast-tracked, the lack of safety with having 100ft trucks on our highways, the ore itself as a significant source of pollution, how ore trucks will block our main 2-lane highway from EMS, military and mail transit, how these trucks will eventually collide with passenger vehicles and school buses, how death is part of the business plan, and how the public is paying (and will continue to pay...) for all of this infrastructure for a private business.

Even with a false claim of damage to trucks, protesters were threatened with arrest, had their photos taken by a Kinross contracted professional photographer, Black Gold employees laughed at and walked away from protesters and press who asked them reasonable questions, and borough representatives refused to speak on record about their role in all of this.

Interview with Christina about drop-off kennels in Fairbanks and plans for our new animal shelter. We also discuss ASAP, which is a local group that helps low income Fairbanksians access healthcare for their pets.

Interview with Barb Schumann of Advocates for Safe Alaska Highways (ASAH) regarding the Kinross Manh Choh industrial ore haul road that is being proposed to run directly on our public highways. We talk about the background of the mining project, how ASAH was formed, the dangers of 250 miles of industrial use and public use on the same two-lane road (e.g. school bus stops), the extra pollution loads that will affect water and air quality, how our roads will be degraded, long term liability and costs to the public, and ASAH's goals and calls to action.

Interview with a trans support group leader in New Jersey. We discuss the everchanging headlines, the abortion issue, the awesomeness of trans ally Lynda Carter, how Bette Midler and other liberals sometimes mimic anti-trans rhetoric, and The New York Times' uncritical publication of anti-trans Op-Eds. We also talked about his interest in public office (some of this footage was unfortunately lost due to technical difficulties), how trans people share resources, the expansion of competent trans medical resources, medical gatekeeping and WPATH, the easy access to gender affirming care for cisgendered people, the effect of covid on populous places like NJ, our trials with changing legal documents, the defunding of LGBT oriented therapy, elder and HIV programs because of the push for gay marriage, being post-trans, anti-trans conservative "pick me" trans people, the rolling back of progress in trans issues, dating as a trans person, and the possibilities for peer and ally support for trans people's medical appointments.

We talk about Medford Lakes and other "shore towns" in NJ, his suburban cabin, how the area isn't gentrified, my gig work experiences, his work in the auto insurance and bodywork industries, new business models from covid (e.g. ghost kitchens), his fairly easy transition at work, his struggles with his Right-wing family members, how states like NJ might become sanctuaries, medical tourism, and issues around immigration and the border wall.

After a short break we talk about hunting and fishing, hurricanes and tornadoes on the eastern seaboard, the giant dog park nearby (Freedom Park, see link below), police surveillance in New Jersey, the responsibility of having a pocketknife when we were kids, how camping changed from being a poor and middle-class past time to an elite one, learning people's pronouns, vacation Bible school as a teenager, his religious curiosity, and his relationship with his girlfriend.

There were many technical difficulties, so there are many edits in this video. His smartwatch created electrical interference and the heat of the day kept overheating my computer which resulted in some loss of footage.
