  • A Simple Meditation [SS051]
There are as many ways to meditate as there are ways to kiss. So many hot, juicy, loving, tender, forced, obligated, ways to stop and be still.
But ultimately, there is only one *reason* to meditate, and there is actually one repeatable way to get to the task at hand. One simple process that can happen anywhere, anytime, any place…

  • Quick fix to calm the mind [SS050]
“…and then he said… but did I get this right… blah, blah, blah… you’re not focusing, you need to focus… did I shut off the lights today… blah, blah, blah…”
We all know what obsessive mind feels like. And it’s not a great feeling. Essentially, it’s a whole bunch of thoughts colliding with rather aggressive, loud, busy chaos. But how we are going to get out of all the noise has everything to do with how invested you are in the noise. If you figure you need to be thinking this junk, or if you figure something important might be sitting amongst the chaos, or if you are in resistance or some kind of controlling fight for it to stop, or if you are invested in turning all those thoughts into positive, life-affirming thoughts, you are giving it juice!
Let’s not give it juice. Let’s find a much easier way out!

  • “Urban Meditation” is no B.S. [SS049]
So why are we meditating in the first place? Is it because we heard it was good for our blood pressure? Because there is a direct cause to decreased rates of cancer? Because the clothes and cushions and accessories are so darn cute? Because the Instagram account blew up when meditation is mentioned? Gosh, I hope not. There is really only one good reason to meditate, and that reason is why it can be done anyhow, anywhere, anytime…

  • Finding Clarity When Fear Grips [SS048]
Great question came in, one I hear a lot. It’s all about spending years reading everything, but not really getting anywhere. It’s all about how fear still manages to keep your dreams, your goals, your truth, hidden away.
So, how do we get out of this pattern? How, if we have already read it all, heard it all, listened to it all? HOW?
We put down the book, stop solely absorbing information, and begin to practice in real time, in your real life. We must practice. We practice for real…

  • Desire and Creation [SS047]
    “Everything wants to Awaken…”
    “Consciousness wants to enlighten…”
Well, I understand the sentiment of this, but it’s really not at all precise…
Consciousness is not a desiring movement. It doesn’t “want” something. It simply *is*. So really, this is a pointer that misrepresents what consciousness really is. The source of you does create—look at your life, your body, your world, and obviously creation is going on. But it’s not because consciousness has an agenda!

  • Is spiritual practice going to help me pay the bills?! [SS046]
Yes, you have responsibilities, you have dependents, you have a job… is that really why you can’t take these teachings all the way home?
If you let your sense of ME that has to do all this, that is responsible for it all… If you let those kind of thoughts move you, it’s depleting, it’s painful, it’s a lot of effort and hard work.
If you instead move from your being, you let source “live you”. And that is a much more functional, responsible, renewable, and fulfilling action…

The trick is noticing what is mind and what is being. That’s going to take an awareness practice, and willingness. (My seven-day “Free Your Mind” course is a great way to start practicing.)

  • The Abyss of Emptiness [SS045]
There is a lot more to the actual “dark night of the soul” but let’s focus on a little pesky aspect that most of us encounter time and time again: the “empty abyss” feeling. That feeling of disconnect that we innocently stumble upon when we seem to be just going about the day. This emptiness can feel like you’re suddenly looking at a real truth—that life is nothingness, that it’s just empty suffering—but you’re not. Your looking at a pain-body, a common kind of resistance. So, let’s talk about getting clear of it!

  • Free will? Yes, but it's not what you think... [SS044]
Free will or destiny: which is it? It’s both actually. But let’s focus on free will. Yes, it’s true, you have free will. The real question is who are you? The “you” that is free to create at will is your deeper being, not the mental false identity. This is tricky, because how can you tell what’s reality and what’s a false identity? It’s not at all obvious… except if it all feels like “same s***, different day,” then you’re coming from false identity, or conditioned self. In other words, it’s not your true being…

  • Living an Awakened Life [SS043]
An awakened life in an available life. A life lived with no limitation on expression or experience. It’s a flow of consciousness. It is wholeness.
The projected story is that awakening means walking on air with some constant half smile; a life of pure compassion, kindness and decency. But it’s not. It is a life of truth, and that includes the light and the dark.
Truth is a power that unearths the false structures of what a “spiritually evolved” human looks like.

  • When in Doubt, Here's How to Get Out [SS042]
Doubt is obnoxious it has a persistent and vaporous grip on us. It slowly contaminates our experience and usually brings along its best friend Dread.
In fact, it’s so chronic and constant that we almost wouldn’t know what to do if it wasn’t there, churning away, making low-grade discomfort in our system. Regardless, it is a movement of fear, therefore it’s not true, it’s not clarity.
The real question is, how do we get out of its cold, constant grip?
