Shatter The Vain

This is the one hundred and fifteenth episode of Shatter The Vain. I’m Brad Chmielewski and this is a podcast all about the mobile MOBA Vainglory created by Super Evil Megacorp. On August 17th, Super Evil Megacorp released Vainglory update 1.21. With this update came the new hero Samuel. Sadly, I still haven’t gotten to play him much but I’ve been watching a lot of people destroying with him on the Halcyon Fold. With Samuel we also got a number of balance changes to a few heroes, I was a little surprised at how small this update was compared to previous updates. Joining me on this episode to go over these changes is SparklingRain. SparklingRain has been playing the game since the North American launch and is an avid player on the PBE. Early signs show that everyone seems to be pretty happy with this update.  I’ll have to see how things shake out but like with any patch for Vainglory, it’s going to take awhile to get used to the changes. Joining me once again on the podcast is DragonBorne. It’s been a few months since he’s been on the podcast and a lot has changed with Team Phoenix and the Vainglory Invitational Series. Now that we have both VIS32 and VISPro happening it can be a little confusing to know the difference and that was one reason I wanted to invite DragonBorne back on. The amount of work that DragonBorne puts in for this game is amazing and is a true all-star in the community.  The two of us also talk about the new hero Samuel and the fun skins that are headed our way in update 1.21. We talk about the Summer Party Phinn skin and how everyone is going to have an opportunity to pick it up; not just the players headed to the events. This is the one hundred and twelfth episode of Shatter The Vain. I’m Brad Chmielewski and this is a podcast all about the mobile MOBA Vainglory created by Super Evil Megacorp. On Wednesday, July 27th Super Evil Megacorp released Vainglory update 1.20. If you remember, on episode 111 with PwntByUkrainian and BFDM_MEXI the three of us went over all the changes and what we predicted for the outcome of the update. Now that we’ve all had a few days with this update, we are starting to see which heroes seem to be standing out. Joining me to talk about update 1.20 is Sylvia Renee. Sylvia is a mod in many Vainglory Twitch streamers channels and knows a lot about what’s happening within the community. Besides update 1.20, Sylvia and I chat about Vainglory being too focused on the new player experience, Samuel The Dark Mage Laner and skin prices. This is the one hundred and eleventh episode of Shatter The Vain. I’m Brad Chmielewski and this is a podcast all about the mobile MOBA Vainglory created by Super Evil Megacorp. On July 27th, Super Evil Megacorp released Vainglory update 1.20. I think everyone was ready for a change because the meta of 1.19 was starting to get a little stale. Plus, some of the changes we got in 1.19 just didn’t hit the mark, like the team at Super Evil Megacorp was hoping. Hopefully with these balance changes we’ll start to see some different items getting built and other heroes getting played in and out of the professional scene. Joining me on this episode are fellow GankStars members PwntByUkrainian and BFDM_MEXI. Both these guys have been on the podcast before and are very active people in the Vainglory community. They are not only active in the community but in-game as well and both have some great opinions to share about what they predict for the 1.20 update. This is a pretty great update for the fans of the game, especially new players who are looking for more rewards to get heroes and skins. I’ll have to see how things shake up but like with any patch for Vainglory, it’s going to take awhile to get used to the changes. Update 1.19 seems to be drawing to a close and there are slight signs of update 1.20 getting released soon but we don’t have an exact date yet. Maybe that’s a good thing since everyone is out there playing Pokemon Go right now instead of Vainglory. Don’t worry, I’m still hitting the Halcyon Fold and haven’t completely gotten sucked into Pokemon Go. In this episode I’m joined by Reverse from Impact Gaming. Impact Gaming is a new guild that recently joined the Vainglory community. Reverse has been playing Vainglory for awhile and has put together a steller team for the challenger games. This past week we saw the final skin of 1.19 get released; Fury Rona Tier 2. Super Evil Megacorp also announced that there won’t be a new skin getting released on July 22nd, instead they will be doing a special summer skin sale. During episode 107 with PlayoffBeard and lots, we went pretty eSports heavy and I wanted to come back to the more causal players for episode 108. So on this episode I have Shanaenae the leader of the Renegade Wolves. The Renegade Wolves are a group of causal players that simply love this game and do their best to make sure they are a non-toxic part of the community. The two of us chat about running a guild and the troubles with tracking people down who don’t want to play with guild mates. We also dive into playing support in update 1.19 and the different meta you see in the lower skill tiers. Being three weeks into update 1.19 we’re pretty set in the Vainglory meta and with update 1.20 likely getting released on July 20th, there is a good chance it’s all going to change in just a few days. Just because it’s going to change doesn’t mean it’s not a good time to go over the current hero tier list that the Broken Myth released this week.    Remember Vainglory isn’t just about ranking and trying to climb. We’ve had update 1.19 for a couple weeks now and although the meta seems to be forming we are also seeing a handful of bugs creeping up. As the development team at Super Evil Megacorp tried to solve all those issues, the eSports side has been pushing forward. Over the last week we got the announcement of the Evil 8 as well as the first week of it getting played on the Vainglory stream this weekend.  The new Evil 8 format and the challenger division is a little confusing when I first heard about it, so to help me and everyone else understand it a little better PlayoffBeard hops on the podcast. Last week Super Evil Megacorp released Vainglory update 1.19 and with it comes a new hero, new items, summer rewards, and a handful of balance changes. Then quickly within a few hours came a hotfix to address some of the issues a few players were having. On episode 105 Chief Matt and I ran over all the changes but it’s always nice to re-visit things a few days later after we all had a chance to play with it.    There have been all sorts of issues with this update flying around online and it’s going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
