Fanny Cochrane Smith was a proud First Nations woman who maintained her connection to her culture as an act of resistance throughout the 19th century in Tasmania. 

She became the first Aboriginal recording artist by recording her traditional language through song in order to preserve it. 

This week both Chōle and Jussy took a deep dive into Brene Brown’s ‘Atlas of the Heart’ on Binge and cannot recommend it enough.

We have resumed regular programming legends and Chōle is here to tell the story of Ketanji Brown Jackson.

That name may be familiar to you because Ketanji is a current nominee for the Supreme Court, awaiting senate confirmation. 

Ketanji has a brilliant legal mind and a breadth of experience that is unrivalled by her counterparts. However, she has faced questioning and criticism far beyond her male and white counterparts.

The week Chōle recommended another episode of The Imperfects because we just love that pod. It was their recent episode with Hamish Blake and Jussy has already started listening.

Jussy recommended the Netflix series “Is it Cake?” which she has been enjoying with her daughter.

We had planned to chat about so much this week. However, it would have been remiss of us not to discuss the Oscars.

We wish we were celebrating the achievements of Ariana DeBose and Troy Kotsur; the first openly queer woman of colour and deaf man to win Oscars- respectively. 

However, those achievements have been overshadowed and we unpacked it. 

Naturally that led into a broader conversation about the endemic crisis that is violence against women in Australia.

As promised 60 minutes delivered their interview with opposition leader Anthony Albanese on Sunday night. It was a stark contrast to the interview with Scott Morrison only a few weeks earlier. Naturally we had a lot to say about it.

We also had a big chat about the Australia Unites: Red Cross Flood Appeal and what unfolded during the broadcast. In 2022 should two men kissing and a man wearing a dress be seen as ‘controversial’ or something to poke fun at!?! 

(Spoiler - the answer is NO!)

Katherine was also a pioneer in space science and exploration. She refused to be limited by society's expectations of her gender and race and opened the door for more blak women to step into spaces they were previously excluded from.
