Sylvia Plath is one of the most well known and admired poets of the 20th century. She is celebrated for her contribution to literature, the confessional poetry movement and feminist writing.
Her works such as “Daddy”, “Lady Lazarus” and her semi-autobiographical novel The Bell Jar normalised female anger and unapologetic expression. In her work she explores the concepts of patriarchy, power, sexual double standards, the quest for identity and mental health in the 1950’s.
She is often defined by her tragic death. Whilst Jussy attempted to tell her story outside of this lens we acknowledge that it is a heavy episode that may trigger our listeners.
