Why is church important? Is it even necessary with sermons readily available through the internet. Isn’t church wherever two or three gather together? Church is part of God’s plan of administering grace and bringing Himself glory. Today we are talking about the purpose of church and 4 problems that might keep us from committing.
Purposes of Church(boiled down to two, by yours truly)

Is the Word of God sufficient? Is it lacking any information or directives we need for this life? Does God give extra-biblical revelations? We are going to discuss why the Bible is enough for everything there is to do with life and godliness. Plus identify three struggles that sometimes cause us to look to outside sources.
The Bible Is Sufficient for Life2 Timothy 3:14-17
1 Peter 1:3-4
The Bible is useful to instruct us in this life - including the basic fundamental understanding about God, our condition, and our purpose.
The Bible teaches us:
Ephesians 2:1-10 is a great summary of these fundamental instructions.
Three Struggles we have with the Sufficiency of Scripture:We are using this in our home and church to help our kids (and me) hide God's Word in our hearts. Each song teaches word for word Scripture and its fun to sing! In addition to music there are music videos with animation to show the words. It's a great resource.

There are a lot of Christian voices out there dropping books and conferences like toddlers drop food at the dinner table. Some of it seems so good, but sometimes the people that we’ve grown to love or follow go south. Or at least seem to be on a whole new trajectory. How do we become wise women who can identify bad theology? Today Andy Hlushak joins the SPF Podcast to give 8 great filtering questions we can ask to be discerning women.
I recently received a question about how to discern what is good and biblical when looking to purchase Bible studies and books by Christian women. "I know critical thinking is what is truly needed, but what red flags can we look for?"
What a great question! So I brought my husband on this episode who gives us 8 things to look for to make us discerning women.
Before the questions - you can always go to your pastors/elders at your church. They should have good recommendations and discernment to help guide you to a study or book.
AND - this applies to all bible studies and book authors, not just women - the question received was specifically asking about women teachers.
Which women can we trust? Ask these questions:
1. How do they view Scripture?
2. How do they view the sovereignty of God?
3. What is their reputation?
4. Who are her friends who are her enemies?
5. Is she anthropocentric or theocentric?
6. Is her worldview to change or discover?
7. How do they apply the gospel to all of life? Or are they dualistic, separating faith and life?
8. Where do they fall in history?

What if someone asked you, “Why do you believe the Bible is true?” How would you answer? There is more to believing the Bible than our personal experience or blind faith. Today we will help answer the question Why I believe the Bible as we look at 2 Peter 1 and even explore some mathematics.

The Bible is True, not just because of Personal ExperienceAfter attending Voddie Baucham's workshop, "Why I Believe the Bible is True" at the Christian Home Educators of Colorado Conference in 2014, my faith and confidence grew just by being able to articulate why I believe the Bible.
Check out Voddie's talk here: Why I Choose to Believe the Bible
“The Bible is true because it is a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eye witnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report to us supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claim to be divine rather than human in origin. ” — Voddie Baucham Based on 2 Peter 1:16-2116 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son,[i] with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Can I Be The Change?New Year's means New You and you can be the change you want to see in the world! Remember, that we must hold these statements up to the Truth of God; shed light on what is real, otherwise we will be trapped in a cycles of failure, performance, achievement, and humanism.
According to 2 Corinthians 5:17 change start by Jesus taking away our old nature and giving us a new nature. Our old selves before Christ could do nothing but sin and be self focused on pleasure. Now, in Christ, He changes our hearts to obey Him - and want to obey Him - and makes us free from sin and death.
New You starts with Jesus Christ and if we want to see change in us, we must look to Him and fight sin.

Turmeric supposedly has a lot of benefits like anti-inflamatory properties, is an antioxident (prevents oxidization), among other useful things. Lemons are packed with vitamins and ginger achy muscles. Honey also has medicinal benefits but in this case, you need something to make the medicine go down ;) Remember, I am not a doctor nor do I claim superior medical knowledge.

Tree Bark Recipe! Now I want you to know, I was making this long before Miss Trisha Yearwood posted this but she's got a little video and great instructions - so take it away Trisha! Here's the recipe for the toffee bark (sans graham crackers -ew Andy).
My TWO changes - don't use a whole cup o brown sugar. You just need 3/4 cup. Save at least one tooth from a cavity this Christmas. Good luck to all the others! ;) And sprinkle some chopped walnuts on top to balance the sweet.

New City Church Sermon - Now is the Time by Aaron Carlsonhttp://newcitydenver.org/sermons/now-is-the-time/
VersesRomans 13:11-14
Ephesians 2:8-10
Ephesians 4:17-24
Three Ways to Practice Living with Advent in Mind1. Teach your children or a friend at church the truth about sin. Read Romans 13:11-14 and discuss it with each other. Ask questions about each verse.
2. Repent of your sin - if you know there are sins you make provisions for, if you know there are areas of darkness you are holding on to, repent and turn from those things and believe that God has forgiven you to walk in a manner worthy of Him
3. Fight sin with a friend - expose your weaknesses to a friend to help you fight sin together. Let her pray for you and encourage you with truth. My friend Lindsay helped me in the social media area - I told her my struggle a couple years ago and she did not excuse it - like ooh that’s hard for everyone. But she acknowledged it took my focus away from the Lord. She told me the truth of how that must change my day when I am distracted from God and she prayed for me.
