    What is the "Man Code?"

Ephesians 5:33 says, “Let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband." The "Man Code" not exposing negative or weak things of our husbands in the public sphere. There is a general set of topics that are safe to steer clear of talking about in public. They should be reserved for just you and your husband out of respect for him. There are four areas that men generally like to keep quiet about:

    1. finances
    2. health
    3. feelings
    4. failures

We show great respect to our husbands when we try and understand these sensitive topics that we can avoid in public conversations. Respect is discovering what honors our husbands and what dishonors him. Respecting our husbands actually serve to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Two Solutions for Respecting the Man Code

    1. Talk to your husband about the issue in private and come to a resolution

    2. Ask for permission from your husband if you want to share that information with someone else

    13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;
let them not have dominion over me!
    Then I shall be blameless,
        and innocent of great transgression.

John 17:17 Sanctify them by your truth, your word is truth

  • Episode 17: The Five Solas of the Reformation (and how to teach them)

Send me a Text Message! (I can't directly respond, but I can answer questions and share comments in upcoming episodes!

There are five "solas" that represent the five foundations of Christianity brought about in the 16th century through the Reformation.  When we know them and teach them we gain wisdom, understanding, faith, and a biblical worldview for the glory of God.  Today we are talking about the five sola’s and five ways to teach them, to ourselves, our children, and others.

Hey! Thanks for listening - make this podcast more accessible by rating and review on itunes! It would bless my socks - and blessed socks are very nice ;)

    The Five Solas

    Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”)

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17

"I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." Psalm 119:11

"For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope." Romans 15:4

    Sola Fide (“faith alone”)

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:8-10

    Sola Gratia (“grace alone”

"In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight." Ephesians 1:5-8

    Solus Christus (“Christ alone”)

"For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth." 1 Timothy 2:5-6

"He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son." Colossians 1:13

Soli Deo Gloria (“to the glory of God alone”)

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17

How Do We Teach the Sola's?

    1. Teach one sola a week with your kids, your spouse, a friend. Look up supporting Bible verses.

    2. Learn to ask "is it biblical?"

    3. Learn hymns that have foundational Christian doctrine. Check out this SPF blog post on Making Melody in our hearts to God with a great list of hymns and YouTube links: http://www.sheprovesfaithful.com/blog/sing-praise

We are like water hoses that are always on full blast and we can't turn off the water (worship) but we can choose where we point the water: finances, our children, our future, Jesus, etc.

The New England Primer New England Primer By David Barton

This little book was the first textbook in America for children. Knowledge starts with the fear of God (Proverbs 1:7). This book allowed children to learn through the context of Truth. Can you imagine if this primer was still in our curriculum today?!

I highly recommend getting this book and teaching your children from it. Whether you are homeschooling or not, this is a book that will lay a foundation of Truth.

New City Church Women's Training Day

October 1, 2016 - The Gospel and Control

    Three Things about Worship

    1. It's different than praise

    • Praise involves worship with our mouths and speech Psalm 34:1, Hebrews 13:15
    • It is always befitting to praise the Lord Psalm 33:1

    2. Worship involves our whole body: heart, mind, and physical body

    • After being cleansed Isaiah doesn’t just give praise - he presents himself to God and says, send me - use me! I am yours! Isaiah 6:1-8
    • Present our physical bodies as a living sacrifice to God Romans 12:1
    • Offer our "members" as instruments of righteousness Romans 6:19

    3. Knowing the holiness of God leads to worship

    • Doug Wilson says, “holiness is darkness to make a sinful man tremble.”
    • Psalm 97

Jesus Gave it All, should we give it all too? We are talking bread and fish and not holding back even the crumbs of our lives.

    2. Repent when he reveals it to you
    3. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you keep those things submitting to the authority of Christ.
Passion and Purity: Learning to Bring Your Love Life Under Christ's Control $8.66 By Elisabeth Elliot Get Passion and Purity (affiliate link)

This book is the incredible story of Elisabeth and Jim Elliot submitting one of the most difficult things to the Lord: love.

Elisabeth tells her story of passion (yes) and purity through her friendship and courtship with her first husband Jim. There is no other love story (except for mine ;) that keeps me on the edge of my seat.

Elisabeth helps women uncover what is really going on underneath the wily, sly, and fickle emotions and feelings and thoughts when a man catches our eye, and heart.

I recommend this book for single women, or women meeting with single women.
