Thomas Öström is the passionate person who wanted to find the solution to climate change. He is challenged by the use of fossil fuel and had an idea on how to use the energy in waste heat from industries and low-temperature geothermal heat to generate electricity. The company Climeon started in 2011 and has entered the maritime industry by turning heat into clean electricity, unaffected by weather conditions.
Thomas says that the restrictions the maritime industry put on their product were really the best premises for developing their Heat power system.
Listen to what Thomas has to say and let us know what you think about it, or just give a shout-out to yet a Swedish solution to a problem within the maritime sector.
Thank you for listening!

Dorothea G. Ioannou is the Chief Operating Officer of the Shipowners Claims Bureau Inc., New York, in addition to leading the team in Piraeus. In 2017, Dorothea received the Next Generation Shipping Award at the Lloyd's List Global Awards in London, which we talk about in addition to the value of social media, to create a talent pool and to be kind to people.
We discuss leadership and the importance of staying on top of things, also the latest trends, if you are going to stay in business. Sometimes that can be a bit challenging, but Dorothea's advice to everyone is to just keep pushing.
Hopefully, this episode can make you see the beauty of the maritime industry, if you haven't already seen the light, and take the opportunity to spread these wise words to some of your friends and/or business fiends.
Thank you for listening. I am always available for comments, shout-outs, and conversations. I am @lenagothberg on all social channels.
Meet Stelios Magkanaris, a Fellow of the Association of Average Adjusters, who is a Marine Claims Adjuster of the Piraeus Team of The Swedish Club, which is a marine insurance company.
Stelios shares his experiences from having worked with marine casualties for a very long time, after having been brought up in a shipping family. It's easy to sense his passion for the maritime industry and the marine insurance profession, where he is a stalwart member of the team.
I hope that this episode will inspire you to look further into marine insurance, there are so many different aspects of the maritime industry where a ship is in distress and there are so many different occupations that people hold when focusing on marine insurance.
Thank you for downloading, listening and talking to your friends about what Stelios and I discussed.

Meet Harald Huso, a developer of new media with a background of twenty years in Norwegian media, advertising, and new media. He even started a maritime tv channel some ten years ago, unfortunately, the financial crisis made it impossible to continue with that, but Harald has the experience and the knowledge about how to use digital media for branding and communication.
We speak about maritime superheroes and why it's so important with role models. This episode is a "must listen".
You know your end of the bargain: listen, download & subscribe - we need to hit the top lists with this podcast about the maritime industry, by the passionate people within it!
Thank you for listening and spreading the word!

What are the implications and costs of regulations? How can public procurement be used to reduce the environmental footprint?
You need to listen to Synne Marie Mossevig, who works with these issues at DNVGL in Olso. We talk about the impact of regulations, what and who influences the regulators and dives into the "usual questions" about visibility, #nextgen & the future of the #shipping industry.

I love shout-outs! I am @lenagothberg in all social media channels.

Ship finance, an exciting rare side of the maritime industry. How does it work, where is the capital? Can that capital be accessed by the new start-ups, or is that only for the traditional borrowers? Who is better to answer all my questions than Ingrid Due Gundersen, now CFO of Hoegh Autoliners, one of the 10 women to watch for the future in the maritime industry?
We also chat about what it's like to be a woman in a male-dominated industry, where you attend dinners with forty people and you are the only female in the room. What does that feel like?
This is an episode you will learn a lot from. Ingrid is a very experienced and knowledgeable shipping businesswoman, who knows what she is talking about.
Download, subscribe, listen & give feedback - that's the mantra. Download, subscribe, listen & give feedback!
Thank you for listening! I am @lenagothberg in all social channels and there is a website if you rather would like to comment there, reviewing on iTunes is rather complicated - unless you only give your love in the form of stars (love that).
Jim Paddon, Senior Executive, Marsh Global Energy & Power, explains the marine insurance market and how it has changed over the years. Large risks like oil drilling rigs, how are they insured? What are the challenges for a marine insurance broker? What is it like to be working in a global market? All of those questions are raised in my chat with Jim, and of course, the usual questions that all the guests answers.
Don't miss out!
And you listeners, give feedback! What do you think? I am @lenagothberg in all social media and I would appreciate a review on iTunes, that helps other people to find the Shipping Podcast.
Nina M Hanevold-Sandvik, Senior Lawyer at Wikborg Rein in Oslo, is an expert on litigation. She is part of the emergency response team that goes out if there is a casualty with a vessel involved.
Nina has got tips for young people entering the industry and she is a vivid advocate for the Maritime Trainee Program set up by the Norwegian Shipowners Association, which you can hear more about in episode 81 with Tom Kleppesto.
Did I say that this is the 83rd episode? Listen to the maritime professionals sharing their passion for the shipping industry and give you insights you don't find anywhere else.
Thanks for listening. I love feedback!
@lenagothberg
Thea Thorstensen used to be a Claims Executive at Skuld, but have now changed and become an Underwriter. She loves her work, you can hear that in her voice, and is definitely a woman that we will see developing the maritime industry into something more and something bigger - if that is even possible.
Thea is one of the ten women to watch for the future according to her peers in YoungShip and I agree with them. It's interesting to listen to Thea, since it was more than 25 years since I was in the same position as she is today. So many things have changed and so many things are unfortunately still the same.
Thank you for listening to the Shipping Podcast, if you take the time to send me some feedback, you would make my day! Good or bad, I want to hear from you! I am @lenagothberg in social media, or if you would rather send an email, do so to [email protected]

Tom Kleppesto, "Jack of all Trades" and a well-connected shipping man tell the story about how he has managed the Maritime Trainee program on behalf of the Norwegian Shipowners Association for a decade. We get to know how it was set up, run and what Tom thinks is the outcome of the program. We get some stories from how the students were chosen and how Tom see the changes both from the students' side, the companies side and also how leadership is different now compared to 10 years ago.
Listen to Tom and give us a shout-out in social media. Tom is @TomKleppesto and I am @LenaGothberg on Twitter. Together we can attract more attention to our beloved #shipping industry.
Thank you for listening.
