As the International Antalya Film Festival rolls along, TRT World reporter Alican Pamir had the chance to sit down with director Derek Doneen. The visionary documentarian won the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival with Kailash. Now the same feature is competing at Antalya under a new title: 'The Price of Free'. Doneen spoke to Alican about how filmmakers can use cinema as a tool to raise awareness and what it feels like to be an indie director in the digital age.

In songs like 'La Boheme', and 'Yesterday When I was Young' he sang stories of love, lost and found, and life, wasted and rejuvenated. In many ways, his 80-year career as a stage man is one long song that will be remembered for generations.

Imagine Paris in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It was a time when artists were turning away from impressionism, away from naturalistic depictions of colour and light. Instead, they're more interested in symbolism, and emotion, and in creating an entirely new aesthetic style. That style is what is called post impressionism. And now for the first time, more than 100 works from that period are on display in Istanbul. Showcase's Miranda Atty went to have a look.

Often times, when we hear the word 'calligraphy' we think of artful penmanship, elaborately drawn onto the pages of a book. But in Egypt, a collaboration between a graphic design scholar and a photographer has resulted in a book documenting the ancient art in a way most of us aren't familiar with. 'Khatt: Egypt's Calligraphic Landscape' takes its readers on a sightseeing tour of various works dotted across the country's cities and countryside. And one of its creators, Basma Hamdy, joins Showcase to talk more about it.

The spirit of summer is still alive in Anatolia's south-west coast. But despite the good weather, a good portion of Turkey's fifth most populous city is staying indoors.
