There are just a few days left for cinema enthusiasts to take in the 24th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival. By the time it wraps up, more than 260 films from 56 countries will have been screened, including one by a director who is no stranger to winning awards - Asghar Farhadi.

A pinch of good company, a dash of food and the core ingredient, plenty of euphoric music... Together, these make the perfect mixture for any world-class festival, including the one you're about to see, which is bringing to life a sleepy little town in central Serbia, and which over the last few years, has earned the right to blow its own trumpet.

After a surprise announcement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences it may soon be easier than ever to walk away with an Academy Award. On the back of the #OscarsSoWhite and #MeToo scandals as well as falling television ratings, the Academy has decided to hand out a separate Oscar for popular films. However, that decision has already proved to be quite unpopular with some.

To discuss what this new category means for the Oscars' future Showcase is joined by Alex Dudok de Vit, a freelance film journalist from London.

DC Entertainment has long been outclassed at the box-office by its biggest rival Marvel. And despite reasonable ticket sales, some of its recent cinematic outings haven't quite won over the critics. But now, with its latest animated, comic book adaptation, the company has decided to change its strategy and bring back a little bit of 'geek cred'.

Fans of Marvel's 'Venom' are counting the days until it hits theatres a few months from now. And while it's not the first incarnation of the antihero on the big screen, it is his first stand-alone movie. And if it does well, we're likely to see even more minor Marvel characters receive their share of the limelight.

When most people think of Scotland, highland trekking and bagpipes likely come to mind. But it also happens to be one of the greatest centres for art in the UK, especially these days and especially in Edinburgh. Every August since the Second World War, the city's international arts festival is awash in a stunning array of performance art - from the traditional to the radical.

But the international festival is not the only big event in August in Edinburgh. Playwright Alan Harris joins Showcase to talk about Edinburgh Fringe, the world's largest arts festival.

He was born into a world of music, with a famous tar playing father and a pianist mother. But Mark Eliyahu, an expert kemanche player, has found a sound all on his own. With best-selling albums, appearances on TV and film soundtracks, and sold-out tours, Eliyahu has received global acclaim. He just performed a packed out show right here in Istanbul, and we got the chance to sit down with him to speak about his musical wanderings, and the journey that brought him to the world stage.
