A temple just outside Tokyo celebrates all things cat and not just every August 8th, but rather, every single day of the year. Once on the grounds, visitors are greeted by thousands of "Maneki Neko" - beckoning cats that can be found not just here, but outside of stores and restaurants across Japan.

Self-titled 'the most Colombian of Colombian artists', Fernando Botero is best known for paintings and sculptures of rotund, inflated human and animal shapes. But his signature style known as 'Boterismo' wasn't born by just the simple flick of a finger. And that's exactly what a new exhibition in Bogota is trying to show.

Founded back in 1995, the Sarajevo Film Festival debuted during the Bosnian war, while the capital was still under siege. Since then, it's become the biggest event of its kind in southeast Europe. Movie industry insiders say the Sarajevo festival has a reputation for being an important springboard for productions with a strong moral message.

With so much to look forward to at the 24th edition of the festival, Showcase is joined by its director Mirsad Purivatra from the Bosnian capital.

He not only brought a European sensibility to Tinseltown but also helped modernize the language and idioms used to tell stories in Hollywood. To celebrate the anniversary of Sunset Boulevard, his acclaimed satire of that dream factory, we decided to bring you a career retrospective of this rule-breaking auteur.

But while he might be gone, his work lives on.
