A group house of twenty-somethings in Pittsburg, Kansas is suddenly rocked when jealousy turns to grief and grief turns to streams of water coming from the face of a former housemate. Can Darrah, the itinerant lesbian, find a way to stop the gushing water and save all the house's wayward husbands and redeem the house? Will infidelity destroy them all? Do any of them ever, ever go to bed? Find out in Casa Del Queso, by Brady Russell.

A BOOK THAT CHANGED AMERICA...

Ernest Thompson Seton was an influential naturalist, and a sometime professional hunter and trapper. Much of this book speaks to the contradictions between these roles.

In November 2008, both the PBS series, "Nature," and the BBC series, "Natural World," presented episodes called "The Wolf That Changed America," about Seton, focused in particular on the first story in this book: "Lobo, King of the Currumpaw." Their contention was that his experiences in the capture of Lobo made him the outspoken and controversial activist for wildlife preservation he became.

From the Forward:

"THESE STORIES are true. Although I have left the strict line of historical truth in many places, the animals in this book were all real characters. They lived the lives I have depicted, and showed the stamp of heroism and personality more strongly by far than it has been in the power of my pen to tell...

"Such a collection of histories naturally suggests a common thought a moral it would have been called in the last century. No doubt each different mind will find a moral to its taste, but I hope some will herein find emphasized a moral as old as Scripture: we and the beasts are kin. Man has nothing that the animals have not at least a vestige of, the animals have nothing that man does not in some degree share.

"Since, then, the animals are creatures with wants and feelings differing in degree only from our own, they surely have their rights. This fact, now beginning to be recognized by the Caucasian world, was first proclaimed by Moses and was emphasized by the Buddhist over 2,000 years ago."

-- E.T. Seton

"Lobo" is worth hearing. But you'll be intrigued, too, I think, by the rest of the stories. I was.

The third of four books in the Checkwolf series examines the aftereffects of the drama from the end of the previous book, as well as introducing a major new threat to the organization and city they are sworn to protect, all while the team tries to maintain unity within the ranks.

The Checkwolf series is a collection of stories chronicling the activities of Checkwolf's third phase, from its mainstream recognition to its full integration.

Book 3 demonstrates a darker and more threatening tone than the previous two releases – which is no surprise in view of the concluding moments of Book 2. The ability of the group to function as a team is put under a constant strain, reflecting the difficult times they are facing.

A book club for Fantasy-Fiction and Nerd-like reading where we crack open a beer as we crack open our books!

This is Epilagers, our Nerdy Book & Beer Club, where we explore fantasy fiction books while sampling some amazing craft beer. We try out each book in a two part series so that you can read along with us. We will hit on topics such as writing style, character development, and world building all while trying to decipher the plot and make accurate and sometimes hilarious predictions.

We're in the midst of Season 1: "Dystopian Culture"
Focusing on including books such as: The Maze Runner, Bartimaeus, the Hunger Games, Mortal Engines, Ender's Game, Uglies, Delirium, and more.

Part 1, the Prologue, we discuss how we’re enjoying the style and set up of the plot, discuss how we want the narration to develop, and make hopeful and possibly outrageous plot predictions based on the first 25% of the book. Part 2, the Epilogue, will be a quick summary of the book and many discussion topics all with book spoilers and out thoughts on the plot. So Spoiler haters beware! Join us on our journey and remember the best way to tackle Adulthood is with a book in one hand and a beer in the other.

The Deer Tracks podcast is a place where creativity lives. Where our longings, our delights, our disappointments, and our passions are breathed out: marking the trail of our journey. These are the tracks we make and the ones we follow to find the deepest parts of ourselves: our true selves. During each episode, you will hear echoes of the past as well as current voices through discussions about and performances of creative works. Our goal is to build community and inspire others in their creative pursuits which is why we invite our listeners to submit their work for the opportunity of hearing it on a future episode or seeing it on our blog site by sending them james@deertrackspodcast.blog. All submissions must be appropriate for a general audience and should be original work. You can submit a recording of yourself performing your work, or you can submit the words to have James perform it; all we ask is that recordings run no longer than four minutes and thirty seconds or submissions to be read are no longer than one thousand words. Exceptions can be made based on literary form but as a general rule, we ask that submissions abide by the above criteria. For further questions, you can email those to the above email address.

The human voice is music that works as a tuning fork for the soul. In times of trouble it brings solace and comfort. We also find refuge in stories - they can allay our fears, comfort our anxieties and instruct us on better ways to be. On this series, renowned culinary historian and author Jessica B. Harris shares stories and reads poems from around the world. Some might bring a smile of recollection or a nod of recognition - others might startle with their aptness to todays world. May they all help us find peace of mind body and soul.
