Democracy is studied from a wide variety of approaches. Yet, the different discourses on democracy offered by these disciplines seem to be drifting apart, missing opportunities to gain from each other.
The reason for this situation might lie in the fact that many questions about how to relate one discipline to another are rarely discussed explicitely. Linked to an event series organized by young researchers members of the association DemocracyNet.eu in 2015-16 at the University of Zurich, this series of podcasts is meant as an opportunity to discuss openly and informally about these - and other - questions. Democracy: Bridging Facts and Norms gathers the different perspectives of advanced scholars on the question of how to brige (normative) political theory and empirical political science.
What should the relation between political theory and empirical political science research on democracy be like? Should we ‘compromise’ on ideals when we assess the quality of real-existing democracies? What role should democracy scholars play in public discussions, and what are their responsibilities?

Tiefgang hat drei Bedeutungen: Man schürft tief an einem Ort und trägt wie eine Archäologin tieferliegende Schichten aus der Geschichte zutage. Ein Ort gewinnt zudem Tiefe, wenn man sich ihn und die Themen, die mit ihm verbunden sind, vorsichtig tastend aneignet. Mit den Füßen und alle Sinnen kann man ihn dabei am besten erfassen.
Schließlich kann man auch in Gedanken tief eintauchen, wenn man sich im Gespräch von einem Ort in freier Assoziation inspirieren und ohne Leitplanken zum Nachdenken hinreißen lässt. 
Genau dies haben wir, Thomas und Raiko, uns in unserem Tiefgang-Podcast vorgenommen. Wir erkunden Orte im Spaziergang, lernen deren Geschichte kennen und denken dabei über alle möglichen Themen nach, die uns der Ort sozusagen aufzwingt.
Dabei berühren wir historische, politische und gesellschaftliche Themen überhaupt.
In der Regel lernen wir die Orte im Tiefgang selber erst (richtig) kennen und locken unsere Hörer:innen hinein, tief in die Universen vor Ort.

Tiefgang durch die Stadt

Il minimalismo è una filosofia di vita straordinaria. In Italia non è ancora una realtà, mentre in America e in altri paesi Anglofoni le persone stanno abbracciando questo cambiamento. Il minimalismo non è solo un percorso personale, è anche l'unica risposta seria che abbiamo allo sfrenato consumismo che governa la nostra società, l'unico strumento in grado di ridurre i consumi e di conseguenza ridurre l'impatto che l'uomo ha sul pianeta terra e le sue risorse. In questo podcast affronterò il percorso che mi sta portando ad essere un minimalista ed un essenzialista e le difficoltà incontrate.
