Indie rockers Stems has described its sound as “future past,” or what one would hear on an oldies station decades from now. Popular orchestral rock band Seafair is back together and releasing new music. The Cleveland band that formed in 2012 split up in 2016. Late last year, they announced they were reuniting. Seafair vocalist Chayla Hope said the band got caught up trying to make it big. “It just got really business-y,” Hope said. “That was a really big struggle for all of us because almost every single person in the band has wanted to make it since they were pretty young.” Drummer Ryan Kelly described the band as a

Four-piece rock outfit Ottawa has kept busy the last five years making memorable tunes with an appeal far beyond its Cleveland home. Over the summer, the band released a string of singles that blend gritty garage rock with pop melodies. They've been making the rounds across Northeast Ohio venues to debut the new material.

A classically trained Cleveland pianist is creating masterpieces out of classic video game music. Rob Kovacs is a composer and piano teacher who grew up a gamer in the 1980s. In addition to starting piano lessons when he was around 6 years old, his family had about 10 classic arcade games throughout their home. He evenutally got Atari and Nintendo consoles.

Akron’s five-piece hip-hop band, Red Rose Panic , will headline this year’s Highland Square PorchRokr Music and Art Festival Saturday. Self-described as “dynamic hip-hop,” the group’s sound is an eclectic blend of rap, funk, pop and jazz highlighted by improvised live performances where no two shows are quite alike.

The Cory Grinder Band will drop its debut album, “Cahoots and Other Favorites,” Aug. 17. The release contains 13 original tracks, which frontman Cory Grinder describes as “hillbilly music that’s easy to play, fun to dance to and goofy.”

A music showcase in Akron next month is all about the bass. This is the fifth year Akron solo bassist Jared Lees has organized LoHio . The concert brings together solo bassists from around the country. Lees has been playing electric bass for more than 20 years. He started out playing in several bands throughout Northeast Ohio and with musicians, including Ryan Humbert . Then he decided he wanted to make his own music. A new concert series is working to bring big-name jazz artists to rural Tuscarawas County. Tuscomusic 's director of operations, David Ryder, said before the series began earlier this year, residents had to go elsewhere to see popular jazz musicians.
