Silence on Set

We met with the triple threat (Director/Writer/Actor) Jennifer Esposito to discuss the world premiere of her film Fresh Kills at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival. While the film is based in the mob world in NY (specifically Staten Island), Esposito went out of her way to make sure that not only would the film be as accurate and as authentic as possible -- but that it would be told from a women's perspective for the first time. In a lot of these films, the men are the ones carrying the movie. However, for Esposito, hearing from the often voiceless, the women behind the men was essential. Esposito and I broke down a few scenes without giving too much away because this is a MUST-WATCH at the festival.

Joel Johnstone and Austin Basis met up with us to discuss what it was like being a part of a legendary show like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. while Johnstone discusses how Archie has changed over the years, why he is such a good friend to Joel, and what he thinks of Midge -- Basis spoke about what it was like joining a historic show, the preparation he did before getting to set, and what it felt like on that last day of filming...during THAT final monologue.

We spoke with Corteon Moore (Ellis), Jamie McGuire (Smiley), and Chloe Van Landschoot (Kristi) about their character arcs this season and how the "little show that could" from season one has become one of the most-watched shows for season two on MGM+. Moore, McGuire, and Landschoot all discussed their shock from episodes that just aired and gave teasers and reactions when they read the series finale. I found myself smiling, listening to all of them give their theories and talk about what was to come. All I wanted to know is WHAT IS GOING ON! Saint X star Josh Bonzie revisited the podcast to discuss his hit from Hulu called Saint X. Bonzie had previously been on the podcast to discuss what fans could expect when Saint X was released on Hulu. Now that all of the episodes are out, Bonzie and I really got into some of the significant issues the show addresses regarding race, assumptions, stereotypes, discrimination, and how all of this can stem from one incident in your life. Bonzie plays Clive "Gogo" Richardson, who works at a fancy resort when a young attractive white woman goes missing and is ultimately found dead. For the rest of his life, Gogo has to face the repercussions of that one incident. If you haven't seen the show, I would recommend watching all of it before listening to this podcast because spoilers are ahead. But it was fascinating to hear from Bonzie again and really break down how fast your entire life can change with something entirely out of your hands and how this happens to various targeted communities all the time.

We spoke with Violet Brinson from The CW hit, 'Walker,' about how her character, Stella, has evolved from the first script she received to now. Brinson was a delight because she was willing to answer everything and anything. We took a deep dive into the reasoning behind Stella's decisions -- if she would make a good ranger, Stella's future, and what it's like being a part of the Walker family. We discussed the careful balance between comedy and drama (as we know, there is a lot of drama on the show). We had so much fun. Brinson also revealed the latest topics and messages in the group chat between the cast, what it's like playing Jared Padalecki's daughter, and how much she has learned from the cast and crew over time. We even heard about more pranks and jokes while on set and what it was like when Jensen came in to direct. Violet said it was something special seeing Jared and Jensen together. We joked a lot about Jared and Jensen, but hearing more stories (including some from that carnival-themed episode) was awesome. Brinson is one of the sweetest humans on the planet. We got along from the second we both appeared on Zoom. We covered everything, and I owe her a good gallop lesson when I come on set next season. Violet is THE BEST. I can't wait to see her in person. I hope you enjoy listening to all things Stella and Walker from the one and only Violet Brinson!

Synopsis:

We spoke with Katie Findlay, who currently stars on The CW's Walker Independence. Fans were disappointed when the network decided not to renew the show for a second season. So, while the show remains in limbo with hopes of finding a home somewhere else, we spoke with Katie about her history in the industry, why she loved working on the show so much, and what her hopes are moving forward. Katie was one of the nicest people I have ever spoken to and I felt so comfortable speaking with her that we could have a deep and honest conversation that was extremely refreshing. So I hope the show finds a home, but if not I am sure we will be seeing Katie on another great project soon.

We sat down with legends Miranda Otto and Teresa Palmer to discuss their new psychological thriller, The Clearing. Both Palmer and Otto play mothers willing to do anything necessary for their kids... however the two characters they play not only view how to handle things differently, but they both have a history together that might fracture their entire relationship. Meanwhile, Palmer's character is forced to face the tragedies of her past to stop the kidnapping of innocent children. Otto and Palmer discuss how they got into their characters, what it was like working together, their favorite scenes, some of the lighter times they had on set, and what to expect as the episodes roll out.
