  • Episode 44 | Creating a new normal after child loss
When you've lost a child, the last thing you want to hear about is creating a "new normal." We don't want a new life; we want the one we had with our child. The resistance is real, and the path forward seems impossible. But what if the goal isn't closure, but something quieter and more gentle?

In this episode of the Silent Grief Podcast, we talk through the tender and difficult steps of finding a way forward after the unimaginable. We acknowledge that it's up to us to take the first step, but also that our hearts will let us know when it's time.

Join us as we discuss the small beginnings of this new normal—from making new friends and slowing down to smell the roses, to reaching out to help others and letting go of anger. We explore the painful but necessary process of learning to accept that our child is no longer here.

This journey will never bring you a feeling of closure, but as we share in this episode, it can bring you to a place of quiet peace.

  • Episode 43 | You're not broken, you're surviving--The reality of child loss
In this deeply honest episode of The Silent Grief Podcast, we explore what it’s like to live in survival mode after the devastating loss of a child. This conversation reaches into the raw realities of grief that no one talks about—feeling numb, struggling to breathe, pushing through daily tasks while the world keeps moving forward.

We talk about the emotional exhaustion and constant effort it takes just to get through the day. For many grieving parents, “thriving” feels like an unreachable idea, and simply surviving is the most they can manage. We also touch on the importance of acknowledging your pain, learning how to function when joy feels out of reach, and recognizing that grief isn’t linear.

Whether you’ve experienced this kind of loss or want to better understand someone who has, this episode offers a space of compassion, validation, and truth. You're not alone—and there's no shame in surviving one breath at a time.

  • Episode 42 | Is there purpose in my pain?
Parents who've lost a child all ask "why?" Why my child? Why now? Why did they pass the way that they did? Is there a purpose for my pain? People sometimes use scriptures to make us "feel better," telling us things like "God works all things for good" or "God has a plan for you." These seem more like cliches than deep thoughts.

Can there be purpose in our pain or is the death of our children a meaningless death--in other words, are we just victims of chance? In this episode we talk about how it might not be helpful to tell people that there was a purpose in the death. There may be a better way forward for grieving parents.

  • Episode 41 | Can there ever be closure after losing a child?
Can there ever be closure after losing a child? The whole world wants us grieving parents to find closure. They are desperate for it. They tell us things like, "It's time to move on." They ask us why we are still "stuck" in our grief years after our child has passed. If this describes your situation, you are not alone.

Other people might want us to find closure, but they are not the ones who've lost a child. They aren't the ones picking up the shattered pieces of their own life. You are. Grief is a complicated thing, and maybe we shouldn't be pursuing closure. Instead, we can find ways to honor our child AND our grief that we feel! Tune in to hear just how normal you are in this process we call grief.

  • Episode 39 | Post-Mother's Day and ways to cope as grieving parents
Mother's Day is an especially hard time of year for grieving parents. The day that typically celebrates mothers is, for some, a reminder that they no longer have a child to celebrate them as their mother. Many mothers struggle just to make it through Mother's Day because of all the emotions that well up. If you feel that way, you are not alone.

Clara breaks down what helps her during Mother's Day and how she helps keep her son's memory alive.

  • Episode 37 | The dangerous side of grief
There is a dangerous side of grief that most of us fall into. Namely, we can fall into the trap of comaring our grief or circumstances to that of others. Grief is incredibly unique and we want to avoid falling into this endless pit of comparision. Eventually comparing our level of grief to others will distort our worldview and cause us to sink deeper into depression.

We want to avoid this at all costs. Grief is hard enough as it is. In this epsidode, we talk about the dangerous side of grief and how we can become aware that we are migrating towards it.

  • Episode 36 | Forgiveness can help heal in certain conditions
When parents lose a child to a crime, medical negligence, or some other reason when someone is a fault, the first question they get asked is, "Will you ever forgive the person who did this?" Why is it that the burden to forgive falls on the parents? Forgiveness should not be the first response. The first response should be compassion and understanding for the parents who experienced unimaginable loss.

In this episode, we continue to unpack the idea of forgiveness and the myths surrounding it. Forgiveness is a deeply personal thing, and while there can be healing that takes place under certain conditions, it is not a fix-all solution. Grief is very complex and there is always a lot to unpack. It takes years to come to grips with the reality that our child is gone and is not coming back. Our hearts always go out to parents who lose children and we believe there is a more sensitive way to help each other through the grief journey.

  • Episode 35 | Debunking the hurtful myths of forgiveness
People who do not forgive are often labeled as bitter, unforgiving, stuck in the past, and even mentally unstable. These are unfortunate assumptions that place blame on innocent people who are victims of abuse, crimes, and even death. We have been taught to believe that unless we forgive others (no matter what) then we won't be forgiven. Parents who've lost a child to a sensless crime are targets of this kind of teaching. They can be ridiculed to the point of bullying.

This is why it's important to debunk the myths associated with forgiveness and give clear directives as found in the scriptures. Whether people are believers or not, these principles are important for everyone. Forgiveness is not freely given to everyone. It rests on the foundation of repentance. Oftentimes forgiveness was withheld in the Bible. Join us for an important discussion on what forgiveness is and isn't and hear the things that actually usher in closure.
