In this episode of Simply Shan, we talk working through difficult moments. We have all been there in a season of struggle and not known what to do or how to move forward. Seasons of hardship are very difficult at times, but so very important. It is in these periods of life we grow the most, and it is in these periods we learn to lead on our relationship with God and those we love the most.
In this episode of Simply Shan, I sit down with a good friend and international student Lucas Mota. Lucas is from Spain, and we met while at the University of West Georgia where he was playing golf for the university and I was coaching the softball program. We talk about Lucas' journey to coming to play golf and attend college in the States, how the process was for him to be able to come here, and some of the struggles he had while adjusting to being in a new country with an entirely different language.
In this episode of Simply Shan, I sit down with a good friend and former Division 1 baseball player Collin Hopkins. Collin talks about his time growing up and in college being a minority playing on a predominantly white sports team. We also dive into the current state of sports culture and discuss how sports itself can become a more inclusive environment rather than only a few select sports providing the opportunity to have a more diversely accepted atmosphere.
This week on Simply Shan, we are covering giving forgiveness and why we do it. We have all been hurt in our lives by a person. Whether a friendship, family member, a relationship, or even by hurting ourselves we have all experienced deep hurt from someone we love. In this episode, we cover why we need to forgive and how we reach the point where we are truly willing to let go and forgive.
This week's episode is all about self analyzing OUR very own toxic traits. It is very easy to point the finger in life whenever something doesn't go our way, or we have a falling out in a relationship of any form. Many times we simply decide it is the world, or it is the other person who is at fault and they are toxic. This is true, every individual has some form of toxicity in them, after all we are human. But instead of looking at what everyone else struggles at, this episode is all about identifying what we individually struggle at and how we can start to remove toxic traits from our lives.
In episode 4 of Simply Shan, we are talking about body image and the unattainable expectations society puts on us. Everybody has had that moment in their lives where they look in the mirror and do not like what is looking back at them. In today's culture, we are preconditioned to hide our "flaws" and natural bodies behind filters, editing, and surgery and we are constantly competing with others to reach this perfect standard the world around us has set. I look back on a moment where I was made to feel unconfident about my looks and discuss ways that we can work on becoming comfortable in our body and loving our body a little more each day.
In this weeks episode of Simply Shan, we discuss the ever present mental health issue of anxiety. Anxiety can be an incredibly difficult and exhausting experience to go through and it can even stay for periods of months or even years. This week we are diving into what is happening within our lives and bodies to cause anxiety and some ways we can start to work through it.
In our second episode of Simply Shan, we dive into how to correctly chase after and pursue a goal. Everyone is capable of pursuing their dreams, but not everyone is willing to do what it takes to go after them. We touch on some ways people find themselves struggling to maintain consistency in going after what they want, and reveal the absolute DO's of pursuing your dreams.
In our first episode of Simply Shan, we go through the issue of putting our self validation and worth in what we do rather than who we are. As a former college athlete, Shannon discusses her time at South Carolina playing softball and the struggle of stripping her identity away from her sport. We also bring forth the idea of a self affirmation list to begin analyzing our worth in who we are and what we see in ourselves, versus what the world expects from us.
