    Any additional comments?
This book was slow to get going and I am sorry to say that I was unable to finish it. It's not that it was horribly written - it's just that I didn't care. I didn't care about the characters, their stories (or lack thereof) and the plot. It was not making sense in the kind of way that makes you stop and think "well, why didn't he/she/it just do this/that/or the other?" Duh!!! And when you are not invested in the main character and the plot, then it is death to the entire endeavor. I love books and stories and it pains me to say that I was unable to finish a book, but in this case I would have rather had a root canal than listen to the rest of the book. It was also not because of any fault on the part of the narrator. She was good.

    Worth the read
    Permanence
    By Tom Underhill
A small group of people are stranded on a deserted island with plenty of available resources leaving too much free time on their hands. As their captain seems to go crazy the crew begins to find conflicts amongst their selves.
Another short story masterfully brought to life by Tom Underhill. Instead of this one having a supernatural or sinister angle it is simply the human mind and what we are capable of which is sometimes more intriguing. I wish the author would take this story and expound on it into a full novel I would love to be able to have more details for this one.
I was sent a free copy of this story for review.
    Permanence
I think the appeal of the post-apocalyptic genre is that it helps us believe that no matter how dire, human spirit and ingenuity can and will prevail. (Of course, that requires not thinking too hard about what got the world to that point in the first place.) Permanence tells such a story, does it well, and in very few words. That last point is what stood out for me. Like the best and most meaningful song lyrics, Wisseman's words manage to say a lot in a short space by allowing us to read between the lines, giving us just what we need to understand, and nothing more. It's a rare talent.
**Originally written for "Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy. **
    Permanence
Imagine being stranded on an island. You don't know where you are or why you are there besides the fact that there was a war. One of your comrades is severely injured an mute. You don't know if he will recover.
You all have to try to get along so surviving is easier. All you have is a journal to document your thoughts. Will anyone read it? Will those be your last words ever documented? Or will you be rescued?
That is the journey that this story takes you on.
I liked how we got to see everyone's perspective of their stay on the island through the journal. That made this story more interesting.
4/5 stars. The characters were well developed, but I didn't really care what happened to them. I didn't find them likable.
    Permanence
In Permanence several people, during a war are crashed on a desert island. The questions of what war they were involved in or where there are are not answered. Instead the author focuses on how they act as they believe that no one will arrive to rescue them and the story is told through a combo of diary entries and through the point of view of one of the castaways who was injured. The author uses the interpersonal aspects of the group and the oddly distorted point of view of their injured group member for the focus of this story. Permanence is slightly confusing, and somewhat chaotic but it manages to fit together nicely into a cohesive work.
Disclaimer: PDF was obtained from author for a honest review.
    Very satisfying
    An especially well-contained short story.

About the Players - This audio book was performed in audio drama format by four very talented actors, all well known on the Chicago stage for over 20 years, Mark Ulrich, Matt Penn, Cathy Nash and Mary Peterson. There were many challenges during production, not least of which was coming up with unique voices for the five primary characters, eight secondary characters and the twenty-five minor characters. It was truly amazing watching these actors, from the control room, shifting from one voice to another without missing a beat. Needing little direction they rendered the five hundred plus page script in just two weeks. Now sit back and enjoy Ethnic Weapon.

    Fantastic sexy Sci-fi audio drama
What did you love best about Ethnic Weapon?
The non-stop action and NOT politically correct at all. Wow!!! However, if you're thin skinned you may not like it.
What did you like best about this story?
Mr. Hansen takes on topics that no one else would dream of touching. He pushes the limits of warfare, language and sex play to the limit. Seeing this was produced in 1994, Mr. Hansen was the first to predict an attack on an American skyscraper with a jumbo jet. Mr. Hansen was way ahead of his time and envisioned the war on terror of today correctly. I also love the use of multiple actors. It made the audio play in your mind like a movie.
Which character as performed by the narrators was your favorite?
This is the first Audio book that I have listened to that had multiple actors, two male and two female. Because of this it did take a little getting use to, but it was fantastic from beginning to end. Having the actors doing the 40 some different voices and accents was great.

    Publisher's Summary:
His boss had given him a mission: to bring back his son, Gerten, alive. Max needed this break, for he and his pregnant wife were struggling just to keep the lights on. His boss promised to pay him well so he may finally be able to support his new family. But something is about to go wrong. Is it the fault of the Telecarter machine, absence of a full moon, or just human error?
It did not seem to make any sense. Vladamir had programmed the machine to take him back to the year Gerten was killed. He should be in the middle of a war zone. There should be buildings, roads, bombs, and sirens going off. But this destination was more like a prehistoric world. He was in the midst of unfamiliar animals, large flying creatures with wing spans that stretched in feet, not inches. In addition, there was no sign of any civilization....
Suddenly the hair stood up on the back of Max's neck. It was as if his body had a premonition that danger was closely lurking. He spotted the Telecarter machine and estimated a short run back to the machine if necessary. His heart was racing and pounding.... Max was beginning to realize that this might not be the right location to find Gerten. It might also be the wrong year. He was witnessing creatures and sounds....

    Telecarter
I did enjoy this book and the characters in it, as well as the style. It kept me reading on with great interest, as the story keeps unfolding, reeling the reader in. I kept wanting to know what was next, no boring moments.
I get the idea that it happens in the future, after a great depression, people are poor and have very little. Yet you can tell it isn't in the past, as there is electricity and such.
The only thing that bugged me was the ending, it's a cliffhanger and I generally don't like those, unless there is a next book in a series, to read on. I do hope the Author will continue with this, so I can find out, what happens to Max.
    Telecater
Not worth the $2.99 I paid. The worst book I have ever read and definitely not science fiction at its best. The characters, events, and places only have physical descriptions. Everything is strung along in a line to an event, character, or place; there is no dimension in travel or character mind set. Maybe this book could be classified as first reader, but I would not subject this material on a first reader for fear that would turn them off to reading.
    Great setting and characters
The book has a great feel to it and really gets you involved with the characters. I agree with the other reviewer who said the end is a bit of a cliffhanger but who said there wouldn't be a part two?
This book is a nice easy read. The author expresses a ton of emotion coming from the characters as well as shows the strong bonds between the characters.
In a sequel I would love to see the author elaborate more on the abilities of Max and his wife. I'm looking for to anymore work by this author! Great work!
