The post SinBin.vegas Podcast #332: Would Not Have Expected Scoring To Be The Demise appeared first on SinBin.vegas.
Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to stay alive and avoid elimination with a Game 5 victory at home. Both teams traded chances in the opening period, but neither could find the back of the net. Vegas ended the period with only five shots on net.
Vegas killed off their second penalty early in the middle frame, frustrating Edmonton’s high-powered power play. However, both teams played to another scoreless stalemate after 40 minutes of Game 5.
Game 5 remained scoreless for the entire third period and would have to be decided in overtime.
The Golden Knights extended their Second Round series with a 1-0 Game 5 victory in OT. The series will shift to Edmonton for a crucial Game 6. Puck drop is scheduled for Friday night at 630PM PT.
The Golden Knights fall 1-0 to the Oilers and were eliminated from the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs.(Recap by Jason)
Analysis: An incredibly low-event hockey game led to both teams really struggling to get to the front of the net. Both teams broke the puck out the best they have all series long, but a good portion of them for each team were uncontrolled which meant a lot of time spent in the neutral zone. In overtime, it was a similar to the problem that plagued VGK in Game 4. The Oilers gained access to the zone too easily, then a battle around the front of the goal went Edmonton’s way. One of the most impressive statistical regular seasons goes down with a whimper. Zero goals in 2 games against the Edmonton Oilers. (Recap by Ken)

For the 4th time in VGK franchise history, they have been eliminated from the playoffs in overtime.
This is the first time it has happened in T-Mobile Arena.

3 takeaways from the game, presented by @dotvegasinc
1) Back-to-back shutouts at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers. Sure, they scored all season, but when they really needed them, there was no one to deliver. The Cup window was open. Missed 81 more than can ever be stated.

Noah Hanifin with one of the best defended 2-on-1's you'll ever see, especially against McDavid. Took away the mass and challenged the shot. Tremendous.
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) May 15, 2025
Can't say I expected a scoreless game heading to the 3rd period in this series, but here we are.
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) May 15, 2025
In that 1st period there was
1 high-danger chance (EDM had it)
3 total scoring chances
0.73 total expected goals
Low-event hockey at its finest.

The post GAME 5 – EDMONTON OILERS 1 VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 0 (EDM Win Series 4-1) appeared first on SinBin.vegas.
Recap: The Golden Knights were seeking to even up the series with a Game 4 victory in Edmonton. With under two minutes into the game the Oilers took an immediate lead. The opening period was messy with multiple penalties for each team. Once things settled down the Oilers scored again taking a 2-0 advantage.
Both teams traded chances in the middle frame but only Edmonton was able to find the back of the net. After 40 minutes the Oilers held on to a 3-0 edge.
Edmonton defended and played conservatively in the final twenty minutes. Vegas had a handful of quality chances but Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner stood tall and completed the 3-0 shutout.
The Golden Knights drop Game 4 and now trail the Oilers 3-1 in the best-of-seven game series. The two teams will face off again on Wednesday night in Las Vegas. Puck drop for Game 5 is scheduled for 6:30PM PT. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: It only took a few minutes for this game to pick up in intensity and unfortunately, the Golden Knights did not respond to it as well as the Oilers did. Edmonton was flying around and VGK couldn’t seem to get their feet out of the mud. They allowed chances all around the net and ultimately found themselves in a dangerous hole. Then, their pushback just wasn’t strong enough. The forecheck never ramped up, they never found a way to spend much time in the O-Zone, and their low-to-high game paid no dividends. Getting shutout in a playoff game always hurts, doing it to a guy sporting a +5.00 GAA is devastating. (Recap by Ken)

How bad were the Golden Knights offensively tonight?
Stuart Skinner recorded a shutout and was named THIRD star of the game.
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) May 13, 2025
Just like the rest of the game, VGK's 6-on-5 could not execute at the level necessary to put the puck in the net.
They are now down 3-1 in the series, a place they'll have to recover from for the first time in franchise history.
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) May 13, 2025
Must say, I was skeptical of the Draisaitl line with Podkolzin and Kapanen. VGK have really struggled under their forecheck pressure.
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) May 13, 2025
Horrible 1st period for the Golden Knights. Poor execution, poor structure, poor defending, poor power play. Might even be fortunate it's only 2-0.

The post GAME 4 – EDMONTON OILERS 3 VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 0 (EDM 3-1) appeared first on SinBin.vegas.
Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to pick up their first series win against the Oilers with a victory in Game 3. Edmonton quickly took a two-goal lead, but Vegas chipped away and evened the score 2-2 before the intermission. First Nic Roy cut the Oilers lead in half and then Reilly Smith tied the game :54 seconds apart.
Vegas was forced to start the middle frame without captain Mark Stone due to injury. Both teams traded power play chances, but neither could take advantage. With under three minutes in the period William Karlsson and Noah Hanifin teamed up to score the tie-breaking goal. After 40 minutes the Golden Knights held a 3-2 edge.
The Golden Knights locked down defensively in the final period of Game 3. With time winding down in the game Edmonton’s Connor McDavid tied the game 3-3. With 0.4 seconds left in the contest, Smith improbably scored his second goal to defeat the Oilers 4-3.
The Golden Knights defeated the Oilers 4-3 to take Game 3 in Edmonton. The best-of-seven series will continue on Monday evening in Alberta. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 PM. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: A lackluster start dug a pretty deep hole for the Golden Knights. But once they got behind by two, despite losing the captain, they turned their game up to a level it hasn’t gotten to in this series (maybe in the playoffS). They used puck support and quick north-south passing to back the Oilers off. VGK’s depth came through with a couple of big goals and then William Karlsson had a mega shift to give Vegas the lead. They continued playing well in the 3rd but McDavid got loose and banked one it off McNabb. However, the best player in the game by a wide margin, Karlsson, made the most incredible 1-on-4 forecheck with just seconds to go and got it out to Smith who waited out Skinner and won the game with 0.4 seconds to go. What a win for the Golden Knights who are now alive and well in this Second Round series. (Recap by Ken)

What a win for the Golden Knights!
Absolutely unbelievable.

At the buzzer the Golden Knights win it!
Unbelievable forecheck by William Karlsson to get it out to Reilly Smith!
The Golden Knights have won it with 0.4 seconds to go!!!
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) May 11, 2025
Adin Hill has not been called upon often in the 3rd but when he has he's made a pair of massive stops. You need big stops sometimes and he's giving them to VGK here.
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) May 11, 2025
Incredible shift from Karlsson with Hanifin and Pietrangelo behind him. They cleared the zone on their own but a quick up back into the zone allowed VGK's best player on the night William Karlsson to put one home and give VGK the 3-2 lead!
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) May 11, 2025
Appeared he got kneed in the head after a slip in the neutral zone. There's also a collision with his arm and Perry's skate.

The post GAME 3 – VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 4 EDMONTON OILERS 3 (EDM 2-1) appeared first on SinBin.vegas.
Recap:The Golden Knights were looking to even the second round series against the Edmonton Oilers with a Game 2 victory. Vegas was awarded two power play opportunities in the opening eight minutes of the contest. Victor Olofsson opened the scoring with his first goal of the playoffs. Both clubs finished the period with six shots apiece but the Golden Knights held a 1-0 advantage after the first twenty minutes.
Edmonton scored three consecutive goals in the second period to take a 3-1 advantage late in the frame. With under two minutes remaining William Karlsson trimmed Edmonton’s edge to 3-2.
The Oilers regained their two-goal advantage 1:52 into the final frame but the Golden Knights quickly responded. Olofsson snapped in his second power play goal of the evening. Vegas heavily attacked Edmonton down the stretch and it paid off. In his return to the lineup, Alex Pietrangelo blasted in the game-tying goal from the point. After sixty minutes of regulation, Game 2 would be decided in overtime. Late in sudden death the Oilers ended the game 5-4.
The Golden Knights trail the series by two games after falling to the Oilers 5-4 in OT. The best of seven game series will shift to Edmonton, Alberta for Games 3 & 4 beginning on Saturday. Game 3 is scheduled for a 6PM PT puck drop. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: Another early couple of power plays helped VGK get off an running and take another early lead in the series. The middle frame was crucial as the Golden Knights started out stifling the Oilers attack by exiting the zone with precision. But, it fell apart for about a six minute stretch and Adin Hill was unable to come up with the big save to keep VGK afloat. The pushback in the 3rd period came from VGK this time, again with the help of a penalty by McDavid 200 feet away from the goal. They kept pushing and found a way back into the game, which has been EDM’s calling card the last two weeks. The Golden Knights improbably killed a 5-minute major penalty to Nic Roy in OT, but it wasn’t enough as the only real moment in the game McDavid made a play and it seals the game. (Recap by Ken)

Devastating hockey game.

The biggest penalty kill we've ever seen from the Golden Knights. The effort level from every single penalty killer was stupendous.
May have been VGK's weakest unit this season, and they come through in the biggest way. Incredible.

Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to wrap up their opening round series with the Wild and advance to the second round with a Game 6 victory in Minnesota. Vegas took an early lead after Brayden McNabb drew a four-minute high-sticking penalty. Shea Theodore launched a shot from the high s,lot giving the visiting team a 1-0 advantage. With four seconds remaining in the period, Minnesota evened the score 1-1.
Both teams traded chances in the middle frame, but neither could snap the 1-1 tie for the majority of the period. With under five minutes remaining in the frame, Jack Eichel snapped the tie with his first goal of the postseason. After 40 minutes of Game 6 the Golden Knights held a 2-1 edge.
Vegas fought off several Minnesota rushes in the final frame, but Adin Hill and the defense held strong. Captain Mark Stone extended the Golden Knights’ lead but the Wild answered seconds later. Minnesota pulled their goalie late in the game, but Vegas kept the puck out of the net and eliminated the Wild in six games.
The Golden Knights defeated the Wild 3-2 in Minnesota and advance to the second round of the playoffs. Vegas will have to wait until the Edmonton and LA series wraps up before knowing their next opponent. Regardless of the opponent, the Golden Knights will hold home ice advantage. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: A cagey elimination game as was to be expected. The Golden Knights were quite loose with the puck all over the ice for a while but Minnesota helped by handing them a 4-minute penalty which once again got VGK on the board in a big spot. Game kind of turned into a dump and chase fest for a little while there but Mark Stone decided it was time for an otherworldly play by Mark Stone and a gorgeous finish by Jack Eichel. VGK then went into lockdown mode defensively trying to keep the puck away from the front of the net and they suceeded long enough to take a two goal lead. (Recap by Ken)

The Golden Knights are NOT at home. Thus, they do NOT have control of the matchups in this game. Remember that when you read this next sentence.
Jack Eichel has been on the ice for 8:16 of Kirill Kaprizov's 11:49 of 5-on-5 ice time.
Coaching matters.
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) May 2, 2025
Jack Eichel will not miss that one!!!
Kaprizov laid out in the neutral zone and Stone made him pay with a perfectly placed pass.

The post GAME 6 – VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 3 MINNESOTA WILD 2 (VGK Win Series 4-2) appeared first on SinBin.vegas.
Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to take a 3-2 series lead with a Game 5 victory against the Minnesota Wild. Vegas committed an early infraction but that didn’t slow down Jack Eichel and William Karlsson. Eichel found Karlsson for a shorthanded goal giving the Golden Knights the first lead of the game. Seconds later the Wild scored to make it a 1-1 affair. At the 13:24 mark of the period captain Mark Stone broke the tie by recording his first goal of the postseason. After 20 minutes, Vegas led 2-1.
Vegas was awarded two 2nd period power plays in a two-and-a-half-minute span. However, the Golden Knights failed to score on either man-advantage. Vegas held a 2-1 edge going into the second intermission.
Minnesota evened Game 5 three and a half minutes into the final frame. With under two minutes to play the Wild scored to take the lead but the goal was reversed after a review. The game would eventually lead to an overtime period.
Brett Howden ended Game 5 with an overtime goal set up by Tanner Pearson.
The Golden Knights win Game 5 and take a 3-2 series lead. Vegas will have a chance to close out the series with a Game 6 victory on Thursday. Puck drop in Minnesota is scheduled for 4:30 PM. (Recap by Jason)
Analysis: The Golden Knights needed a little magic from their bench boss to help them continue the momentum from Game 4 and they got it. Eichel and Karlsson were dynamite together early in the game and it put the Wild on their heels. Karlsson standing right in front on the second goal was exactly what was expected when they were put together. VGK needed an unbelievable escape to get out of the 3rd period without giving up the lead, thanks to an offside challenge. In overtime, VGK needed a hero and they found one in Brett Howden. (Recap by Ken)

The post GAME 5 – VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 3 MINNESOTA WILD 2 (VGK 3-2) – OT appeared first on SinBin.vegas.
Recap: Vegas was hoping to rinse the bad taste of the last two games out of their mouth and get the series back on serve with a Game 4 win in Minnesota. They scored first for the first time since Game 1 with a power play tally from Shea Theodore. Jack Eichel also recorded his first point of the series on the goal. Minnesota answered back with a 4th line forechecking goal by Marco Rossi.
In the 2nd, the Golden Knights held the puck in the Minnesota zone for tons of time but weren’t able to find any holes in the Wild defense. Meanwhile, Marcus Foligno scored for the third straight game of the series on a rebound directly in front of the VGK goal.
A crazy 3rd period saw the Golden Knights earn a 4-minute power play that they ultimately cashed in on with a Nic Roy goal. Then, a scrum between Tomas Hertl and Ryan Hartman off to the side of the net became a backboard for Mark Stone. He shot the puck into them and it deflected right into the goal. Minnesota tied it up moments later on a wraparound goal from Jared Spurgeon.
A back and forth overtime ends with Ivan Barbashev finding a loose puck in front of the goal and shoveling it home to win the game.
The Golden Knights win Game 4 in overtime by the score of 4-3. Game 5 is scheduled for Tuesday. Puck drop time is expected to be announced later tonight. (Recap by Ken)
Analysis: The Golden Knights got the better start they were hoping for by applying some early pressure, drawing a penalty, and cashing in on it. Some of the same problems began to crop up afterwards, though, including turning the puck over to the MIN 4th line. Then, the issue we were worried about coming in made an appearance as Foligno won a jump ball and then a loose puck directly in front. Vegas came out hot int he 3rd period and made their own bounces for the first time in the series. Two massive goals by Tomas Hertl and Ivan Barbashev have the Vegas Golden Knights alive and well in the postseason once again. (Recap by Ken)

The Golden Knights are going to need to force the Wild to do something they haven't done all year, blow a game with a lead to start the 3rd period.
Minnesota are 31-0-0 carrying a lead into the 3rd. The only team in the NHL with a perfect record.

Finally, VGK win on a loose puck, it's Nic Roy who finds it and sticks it into the open net. VGK have tied it! 2-2
— SinBin.vegas (@SinBinVegas) April 26, 2025
All VGK's offense still coming off Theodore's stick. Crucial gloved puck there as Roy was in great position to score almost the exact same goal as Foligno just scored.
